Is there a way to change the menu music? Ideally, I'd like it to be random every time I start up the game.

Weirdest bug to date but
I queued for a 1v1 as Ike.
I connected to a match as Player 2 in the lobby but it never said ready under my name. The match was a FFA.
When the match loaded there was an AI controled Mario in my spot and I was forced to spectate the match.
The AI controlled mario killed itself so many times I got temporarly banned for self destructs.
I'm pretty sure I had someone quit or d/c on me earlier cause after they died their movements were completely robotic. I also got no GSP for winning.
I vaguely remember Smash 4 doing this as well. Weird way of handling d/c.

Salem pissed off the entire Smash community by claiming Melee isn't a real Smash and that Melee killed PM, then managed to unite all comp sides for Christmas as a result of his mindblowing levels of idiocy, including simultaneously calling out Leffen, Armada and Mang0 for who the hell knows what reason and claiming Armada, a person that has won Melee, PM, SSB64 and SSBB tournaments, is a one-trick pony despite Salem only being notable due to playing a broken character in one game.

I think Salem is 100% right to be honest. I just think he's wording it and was going off like such a dumbass that it's impossible to really side with him as a person.
Prefacing this with "I know not all melee players are like this" so you don't have to bother posting it yourself but holy shit FUCK most melee players in the competitive community. A good portion of 20XX kiddos have been nothing but unrelentingly toxic and negative to everything that isn't melee.
They've stabbed Brawls community in the back and harassed and heckled players of it to the point anyone who enjoys that game just straight up isn't allowed to because "Heh... what's the matter, you can't get good at the Good Version of the game?" and led some seriously retarded tirades against that fandom- all just to be Meleetist about a game.
Ultimate came out and Melee players are playing it saying "it's pretty good!" but guess what. They did the same shit with smash 4. They played it while it was hot so they could get easy money and dropped it the second it slowed down and started shitting on it and everyone that played it. Armada, Leffen and Mang0 have all already gone on record saying they're mostly just playing Ultimate for the same reason which like... is exactly what Salem is saying is going to happen. So why listen to people like Leffen who only have expertise in one game, one that he plans to drop when the money stops flowing? When Leffen is a huge piece of shit who gets excused because "haha he is a heel it's okay if he's a bad person xD" ?
Like we have Smash 4 finals as a excuse for "look how bad that community is" but we're just going to gloss over the fact the two players were biting back after getting harassed for literally the last few days for not being melee? For how there were chants to get off the stage and where's melee? Where the chat was spamming "BAD GAME" "TR4SH" "MELEE WHEN"?
Are we really going to ignore actual reports from big players like Fals1fy that have gone on record saying Melee fans have heckled them in person, shit on them for not liking melee more?

When that community is so toxic and hateful to literally the rest of smash outside 64 why would any sane person go "no they're with us"? They can be part of their own smash community- they can like melee better but I would not classify melee as part of the whole as that's something they've been working on themselves for the past 10+ years.
And like, for the record I'll say it again. I know not all melee players are like that and I aint about to claim that. I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking the later games aren't as good or thinking that Melee is just "the best, the peak". I just think that for a community that spits venom 90% of the time that it to be considered separate as a result is fair. It's like watching a kid smack at a beehive then play the victim when they get stung.
Maybe I'm just the 1% here, but I'm really slogging through the world of light. I find spirits to be hard to manage and it seems like half of them don't even do anything? I'm not very good at smash (never was), and having to re-do a fight over and over again (even on easy mode) really kills my mood for continuing the game.
is there a better ledge guarding move than snake's missile? seriously feels impossible to recover against in a game where you cant air dodge off the ledge
If you're not having fun then there's no shame in just dropping it. There's a really cool moment near the end of it but it's not worth 19 or so hours of not having fun.
As for spirits I don't know how far you are into it but yeah- a good deal of them will just never get used and are total fluff. Like you'll never use Dan who's terrible in every way for the sake of a joke. Just hit the auto picker and try to give yourself 2 slots minimum so you can have "resists annoying gimmick" spirits helping out.
If you really just wanna blow through it though just find yourself the strongest spirits and don't give a shit about playing fair. If your type advantage is there and you're power level is just a mountain you can end most fights in like 2 strikes
Is there any other way to unlock all the characters? It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't feel like I had to go through so many spirits and obstacles just to get a new fighter unlocked.

It's glossed over because no matter how dumb the chat crap might get, the reaction by them and Zack was still a gigantic tantrum by two obnoxious teenagers using a broken character who people hate watching, and resulted in one of the most embarrassing EVO moments in the history of the tournament series. Probably the most, actually. There is no justification for what they did. They were spoiled, shitty brats that colluded and should have been disqualified straight up for their behavior, especially after the homie stock.
Let me just say fuck Leffen, he's nearly as much of a manchild as Salem. . . . .
but "expertise in one game" is not an accurate assessment. He has won tournaments in all 4 Smash Bros games he has entered (Melee, Project M, Smash 3DS (won the only tournament he entered for it) and Smash Wii U (won two out of four he entered), but more importantly, he also has played DBFZ competitively (he is the only person that has been in both a Smash summit and an FGC [DBFZ] summit, SonicFox might potentially become the second if he adapts to Ultimate as well as he does to just about everything else) and comes from a King of Fighters background. (His first Smash game was actually Brawl, though he only played it casually)

You get them by completing classic mode or just playing normal smash at a rate of about 1 every ten minutes
pretty sure it's no longer based on time in smash, and something dumb like an arbitrary amount of button presses.
Unless they patched it, play one regular smash and then reset the game entirely. That's the easiest way to unlock characters fast in my experience. You could also rotate between classic mode and normal smashes (in my experience you get one character after every classic and after every regular smash until you have like 10 characters left) here's a guide that shows the order in which you unlock characters via the original 8 character classic trees, so you can unlock certain characters much faster.

Is there a way to not be in "Elite smash" online? I'm not enjoying every match suddenly being a 1v1 against fire emblem characters.

Damn i'm super rusty at Smash, I hopped online just for shits and giggles and i've been in over 10 matches and promptly got my shit kicked in. I see what people mean about the input lag too.
