CUHRAYZEE Games General V1 - It's high time a thread was created

I identified the problem.
It's pretty hard to do when you're just getting back into the game after not having played since DMC4 (it's been 10 years, good lord).
Also on a side note, your avatar + background are fantastic. Underrated game.
I basically jumped from 4 straight into 5.
That said, I'm around the 11th mission of the fifth game and my general impression is that it's a bit easier than its predecessors. On Devil Hunter (Normal) difficulty, at any rate.
There's even less emphasis on puzzles and platforming, the level design is far more linear and the bosses lack gimmicks to make them anything but direct encounters.
Nor that everything period isn't entertaining and hell, but I'm getting nothing but A or S mission ranks and I died only once (and really, that happened because I thought I was supposed to be defeated by Urizen as Nero whereas I had to do more attacks to him first).
My ranks have started decreasing as soon as I got to Dante, though, because it's clear he has a far higher skill ceiling than both Nero and V
the ranks in 5 are pretty wack, getting an S rank at the end of a mission loses that feeling of accomplishment when S ranks are so much easier to get now
not to mention inconsistent, SSS'ing all fights in Mission 10 and it'll most likely still be an A unless you do it no damage or just abuse RG
I mean, you dont HAVE to die.
Theres so many hidden gameplay tricks in this game that aren't brought up in any way in-game its crazy.
Heres a few I didn't know about
Holding down the Gunslinger button as Dante with the dual wield kalina annwill plant one of them in the ground.
You can use (spoiler) nero's devil trigger arms to punch enemies while queueing up attacks.
Nero's Raw Hide devil breaker has a hidden B, B, pause B combo.
Theres a ton of others too out there.
this is particularily useful since it cancels enemy momentum, so doing one after a streak or the final hit of a combo will stop the enemy from getting knocked back
V's theme is growing on me a lot more than expected
Is it just me or are the last 5-6 bosses in BP actually SoS health with SoS or even DH damage except they have DT?
Vergil also never went into buster-state in the last fight either
Yes, floor 80+ is SoS difficulty or higher. Enemies gain devil trigger (glowing purple aura makes them very difficult to stagger/knockup), they hit much harder and are a lot more aggressive.
Honestly, even Subhuman is actually tolerable in game. You don't get to hear the fucking garbage verses for the most part. You just hit that S and "YOU CANNOT KILL ME". But I'm still switching that shit out for literally any of the DMC classic tracks from the deluxe edition. Even if they're not quite as dynamic to your ranking.
The music in this game is just overall fucking great.
i hope modding can add more dynamic themes, because fights dont last long enough for Devil Never Cry to pop off
So I finally got around to Devil may Cry and I got to say holy FUCK BALLZ the first game was hard. It's an odd comparison but this is coming from a guy who plays all the Soulsborne games and beats them at least two or three times. I'm just thinking of skipping towards DMCV from all the hype surrounding it but man I dont want to seem like a punk when I wasted my starting lives on the first boss of the first game.
Then again it's been forever since I played a ps2 era video game so I just may be out of touch.
If you're playing the hd collection there's a bug with the first boss where his giant ass glowing weakpoint isn't actually glowing. So I wouldn't feel too bad with not doing great on that part. I spent a long time on it too because of that.
Yeah its the HD collection for the PS4. This is the first time I heard about this, and i kinda thought about the ass weakness(since he had a slow turnaround) too but the only noticeable weakness at the time was his mouth whenever he opened it and I just wailed and dodged until I had the pattern down to my last life.
I'm thinking of jumping back in at a later point since I'm starting to like DMCV and I'm now starting to get to know the lore and characters of the series hopefully spoiler free. So far I'm liking what I see and I'm glad I'm giving this series a shot.
Technically not a bug. Most of DMC1 HD's "Bugs" aren't actually bugs.
DMC1's Gold Master build, like any good pre-HD Japanese game's Gold Master, got lost due to poor preservation practices from a time noone was ever thinking of re-releases (And most re-releases up to that point were Remakes).
DMC1 HD is a late pre-Gold build missing all the last-minute visual polishing, with some of the effects remade from scratch.
Oh which is as a side effect also missing the various QOL changes of the original English release.
FUCKING WHAT
Just be happy you didn't have to experience the original DMC3 PC port
some of the people in this thread are fuckin war veterans...
what i meant to say is that everyone says 80+ is DMD but their low health and low damage doesn't resemble the campaign DMD at all
that's the way BP works, it increases enemy aggression and adds DT when the time comes for that, but (mostly) keeps damage and health the same
it was the same way in 4 and i'm pretty sure it worked the same in 3 too
ohh, i see, never really gotten far enough in any previous BPs or completed the games on DMD for that matter
thanks mr smug anime

i still stand by the urizen trifecta being the real challenge. vergil was a victory lap, was shocked tbh that they gave me a full heal before him
BUT I DID IT

The final boss fights were really the best way they could wrap-up the game and (perhaps) the whole series. First, they were maybe the only bosses in the entire game that required some sort of strategy and defensive play. Second, well, they were mostly about the return of Vergil, who is arguably my fondest thing from the whole series as a whole. Granted, the whole fight is basically the one you had with him back in Dante's Awakening, albeit more action-paced and some new moves from the boss' part, but I really liked the way they sent Vergil off even on a narrative perspective.
All things considered, I really enjoyed my time with Devil May Cry 5, althought I'd had made some tweaks towards both the gameplay and the story, to the point I don't know if I'd call this one or Devil May Cry 4 my favorite from the series.
As I said in a previous post, I didn't even mind V as a character and his peculiar style is a joy to look at in action, but playing as him really feels like a chore at times: waiting for your demons to actually attack the enemy you wish and having to finish off each enemy one at a time kinda muddles the pacing in what is supposed to be a frantic action videogame. Dante was fine I guess, althought his skill cheiling was so damn high (for me, at the very least) that a certain point I decided "Fuck weapons variety" and just used four or five armaments in my combos over and over again, scores be damned. Nero was my favorite character because he was actually the more balanced of the two: he was far more straightforward than Dante but still had some fairly high skill ceiling to master, not mentioning his varied Devil Arms with their different effects.
Regarding the story, I'm not complaining that much, but I have some very minor nitpicks. Like how Dante was kind of a asshole most of the time ("You are dead weight" and "This is my gig", among others) and how both Trish and Lady, who were constantly portrayed as badass action girls in previous games, after being rescued, basically spent the whole fifth back in the van without doing much at all, which really felt like a waste.
Whelp guys, that's it I guess. The whole Devil May Cry series taken on in the span of some weeks. I really need to thanks my friends for the birthday gift, I guess.
Again, I'll remember Vergil rather fondly. He has basically become my new fantasy fighting fantasy

Honestly this kind of makes sense when you consider the following;
It's heavily implied that Dante never really got over sending his brother to Detroit the underworld at the end of 3. Kinda how Lady brings up killing her father, it's something you just don't really get over. Despite the fact it's now somewhat retroactive thanks to 3 being a prequel to 1, the final Nelo Angelo fight has Dante actually show some fucking emotion for like 5 seconds whilst he remembers his brother. Back then it was kinda out of the blue, but retroactively applying context makes it work.
Well, he is told Vergil might be back, it's not confirmed yet. He's not yet seen him after all. But Dante probably feels personally responsible for all of this, and I don't think he's ever outright hated Vegil, just really, really doesn't want his brother fucking the world up in his quest for MORE POWER/ to be like daddy. His hunch that Nero might be Vergils' son pushes him to try and keep Nero out of it, after all "can't have you kill your old man" (probably got that quote a bit wrong). He takes a detached approach to the whole thing knowing he's probably going to have to re-kill his brother at the end of it all, and if Nero discovers their connection it's probably not going to end well. Push the kid aside, make sure he doesn't discover ANYTHING.
But yeah, Dante being somewhat serious and a bit of a dick is some tonal whiplash straight off the back of 4. Even throughout most of 3 he's a goofy, awkward loser. It's only right at the end does he actually take things seriously.
I think the best part of 5 was (major spoilers) giving Vergil more emotion. In 3 he just seemed like a 1 trick pony and although he had motivations and did have emotion, he rarely showed it. In 5 though he has a lot more character, his personality is still there but its been expanded a bit so he's not so 1 sided. My favorite part of DMC5 was when Dante and Vergil are sparring in the Underworld, Dante claims he's winning and Vergil snaps back annoyed at how they're tied. We've never heard Vergil talk like that before, normally he's much more calm.
V's character development and memories, along with Vergil seeing Nero and finding out that he's his son is why he's so laid back now. That's my assumption, atleast.
