Eh... yeah... it will. Like it's not even "play for a laugh" bad, it's just boring, slow and shit.
Even for plot you can safely skip DMC2 because they don't even really acknowledge it other than the fact 'yeah Dante killed some demons and it happened after DMC1 and before DMC4'.
DMC2 happens after DMC4 just FYI.

Release order, gameplay changes drastically between 1, 2 and 3, 4, and 5.
Yeah forgot to mention that the timeline change is recent. Though I personally think it's for the better despite being a minor thing, it's an easier hand wave of why Dante's fun personality is more consistent going from 4 to 5 instead of assuming Dante from 2 to 5.

Like a month before release for 5. Literally just wrote themselves out of the "Dante gets stuck in hell" corner so it wouldn't limit future writing.

I'd recommend at least the first episode just so you're familiar with 2 of the characters they introduce in it that appear in 5.
Still not necessary though. At least the opening is badass.

I REALLY hope DMC5 gets an option where you can just select a boss fight and play it. Sometimes you just want to fight the boss by themselves and not rush through the stage to get there, you know?

Still for the love of god cant beat mission 8 with S rank. I've replayed it back to back to back while getting SSS everywhere, but the game just gives me an A????? what more do i have to do ffs.
Only thing I can think of is if you're missing a fight. I remember that being a problem in MGR.
im even purposely losing the elevator sections to get into the pits for more fights. I have no idea what is preventing the rank from reaching S.

The way they report style points is nonsensical and confusing. On SoS, 4089 points reported for the first "thing" on mission 1 with no continues for x1.2 on top of that and I get 6222 as final total? That's more than 1.5 not 1.2. But on DH my first was 4052, no continues, and the total was 7510?

It's making other missions more difficult to narrow down what exactly I'm flubbing and need to work on to get S ranks.
to get an S rank in a mission, all you need to do is have an average A-rank in every encounter without using orb continues. you can make plenty of mistakes in a mission and still S-rank the mission as a whole.
also, there's a detailed breakdown of your performance on each mission results screen. you just need to press a button to reveal it, and you can scroll down a list of actions you were ranked on to see what benefited/penalized you.
I still cannot get S rank on either urizen fail state boss maps. I have no idea why, even when switching up to son of Sparda with beefier enemies to stylebeast off of, it still says im getting just A with S rank encounters.
literally every other mission is an easy S, but those two just will not give me it.
