Those actions don't affect your style points, though. They're just bonus orbs tacked onto the end. Your rank is based solely on style points. I've got missions with all high-B scores in the breakdown and the 1.2 takes it to an S because it took it past that threshold.
My issue comes from the fact that breakdown doesn't seem to reveal everything to make sense of why you receive the score you got.
For instance, [secret ending spoiler] in the Prologue, if you beat Urizen, you get an automatic 20,000+ style points at the end. It shows that bonus nowhere. The one bonus it does show relating to that is +500 red orbs, nowhere near what you get in style. You can still get an S-rank without beating him, though (On SoS and above only, probably. No way to style on the chumps below that). It makes me curious if there's other hidden style bonuses it's not reporting that I could be getting, and those fucked up numbers I posted makes me think there are. But the fact I can't see them is keeping me from making use of them, and it's frustrating, especially in shit like mission 8 where it's a massive struggle to get an S.
could be you're pushing the fight on for too long, maybe? I've somehow managed to S-rank both of those, and I'm not really sure why...
I hit details and it still gives me the speed demon bonus so idk. I may be missing a fight, but I've tried looking everywhere for maybe some secrets.
ok what in the god damn FUCK
you can fucking get kalina ann right after dante wakes up? So now you can dual wield fucking kalina anns?
I fucking missed this in my first playthrough and I was beyond confused when I watched Dood's stream.
I think you have to actually kill him to get S on those missions because that's how I did it in the Prologue version and I got 5 times more style points than what I got through gameplay.
Finally fucking did it.

Found out some things, too. Only the second and third arena fights matter, the one with the Baphomet intro and the one after. I got 47xx on the first required fight, but the two 4.5ks you see on the others. You don't get a style point pop up on the last bit, so I'm not 100% that matters. You can literally run past/air hike+air taunt out of the weighted elevator sequences and run past all the empusas; it won't affect your score. I expect that's similar for other missions. Just find the fights that matter and focus on styling on those.
Just found out about this on the prologue.

Can you also do this on Mission 8?
No.
I tested it on Human. After the second shield break, he instantly put up another shield. I wasn't using a broken damage build, but I think it's going to stop you from going all the way.
I wish there was a way to play every mission as every character. An unlockable option or something. They could still show the characters that were meant to do the mission in cutscenes.
you might want to spoiler that, considering the big twist is straight up in the tumbnail.
The one consistent thing I noticed to get an S-rank is to get at least 5550 Stylish Points.
Though I read this recently about Red Orbs being also an important factor and it does make things a bit confusing.

moving on to SoS
The S rank reqs are different for each difficulty, don't know what is it for human mode but from what I've played it seems over 5k is S rank for DH and 5.5k for SoS
which missions exactly do you need help with?
prologue is easy to s rank after you beat the game
if you have issues getting s ranks in certain missions remember this:
-skip the optional encounters, they're usually small fights which only bring your average style down (the full result for the mission is your average style per each encounter);
-for nero use all red queen skills + devil breakers (gerbera beam fucks) + the upgrades you get after you beat the game
-for dante cavaliere shits style points combined with swordmaster and switching to rebellion + balrog also adds real good style - trickster/gunslinger barely give any style - if you still end up getting hit sacrifice DT for holding royal guard and getting free style points
the toughest missions for me to S rank probably were 10 and 18
Does the jukebox battle music simply not work for anyone else? I know the music you pick doesn't play in boss fights or cutscenes, but even outside of those they simply don't seem to play after the first 3 or so missions.
There are certain levels even not on boss fights or cutscenes that another generalized track takes over. I can't recall them right now specifically, but I remember in one instance it's during the level where Nero & V splits up in the beginning and then reunites together in a fight.
There's quite a bit few of them which is kind of lame since while they are nicely composed, I do like to hear the battle tracks more.
Nero's entire first level (not the prologue) uses a different track than what you pick.
Oh right, forgot about that one. Though have to admit it was a good way to build up Devil Trigger towards the next level.
Also people are already starting to do model swaps like in RE2 Remake
Character Spoiler
God damnit, I'm gonna be sad that I can't use any of those all over again
What a touching father son moment.
I want a Mr.X replacement for Nico.
Beachboy Nero, Dante, and V mod when.
and Vergil of course

some weapon intro spoilers
Went to beat son of sparda tonight and was annoyed by V's shitbird and cat, mainly the fucking hedgehog move it kept spamming when my back was turned. Then I get to the almighty bullshit of Virgil, who with dante, sits in DT mode the entire last quarter of the fight, and half the fight with nero. Good lord I can't imagine doing this shit in DmD mode.
Spoiler Character is pretty much confirmed to be playable in the future, someone accessed the game files and found an incomplete version of him with a few functioning moves available.
I think writing "spoiler character" is pretty obvious on who it is.
Really don't know what else to label them, final boss or secret character seems a bit too obvious too given the context of the series, and all the hints given from pre-release material and early plot elements too
Bloody Palace most likely.
Can't wait for Bloody Palace
Small thank you to whoever was in charge of naming the game on steam who just called it Devil May Cry 5 and not DEVIL MAY CRY™ V(FIVE)/デビル メイ クライ DERUX EDITIONARU.
So after enjoying the hell out of DMC5 I decided that I should probably finally play all the DMC games, cause the only one I've actually played was DMC3 in 2005 when I was like 12 and I got my ass kicked so hard that I never touched it again.
Just finished DMC1 in like 4 hours and holy shit what a difference in tone Great game though. Was awesome to actually see where certain characters come from that I've met in DMC5.
Now I'd reaaaally love to jump straight to 3 because I finally want to beat it after all those years. Everywhere I go people say that DMC2 is really shitty and you don't actually miss anything if you skip it though. What would you guys say?
