if you watch his review (don't) he kind of says exactly that. he mentions how you have to buy orbs to get the 3 million red orb taunts. (spoilers, you can use dr. faust in mission 13 and farm a couple million in less than an hour)
Late 5 spoiler I wish you were able to use Rebellion and Sparda with Devil Sword Dante's moveset

Tips for dante must die? It's kicking my ass.
I gave up on it, TBH i'm a lot more let down legendary dark knight wasn't brought back over DmD. DmD felt like just sandbagging fights for as long as possible, while LDK made almost every fight feel like a anime level battle. Plus the rare skins aren't worth it unless you want to experiment moves in DT mode.
What's everyone's favorite devil breaker and why is it the buster arm? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/112325/a63ae9c1-2d2d-4789-af6c-8c65b2fd7ecf/buster59.webm
Punchline. A homing, self-propelled style-generator you can ride before you charge it and give Nero a Real Impact? Yes, please.
Man I love the way DMC4 looks. Everything looks so slick and clean.
I'm sorry to bother, but I'm geting really confused here: is Devil May Cry 2 a prequel to the original or a sequel? And if it's the latter, where the Hell (lol) is Trish?
Sequel. Timeline is 3>1>2>4>5. (Before DMC5 happened 2 was supposed to be the latest chronologically until they changed it and retconned things with DMC5 and its prequel novel). Different devs, different writers, different writers etc. etc.
Chronologically the order is 3,1,2,4 and then 5. I like to think Trish is already investigating the order of the sword from 4 which is why she isn't in 2 aside from alternative costume.
Did they acknowledge 2 at all in 5 in any kind of subtle reference or easter egg I missed?
it's heavily connected to the Before the Nightmare prequel novel for 5, Lucia and Matier show up as for the game there's still a dagger in the map in the DMC office and people speculated that the goat-looking enemies are a dmc 2 throwback as well
It was part of the history recap from the main menu. Prequel novel has a direct acknowledgement of it with this detail Some other subtle stuff includes a knife on a map in Dante's office where it's stabbed in South America. The same map and area where Lucia threw a knife on a map during DMC2's first level. Which may be directly related on him returning to the same island from the prequel novel.
"The time has come and so have I" Jesus now I know where that one's from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McAmddqRlsY Same person who dug around the upcoming DLC stuff just accessed the un-finished Bloody Palace arena. Music spoiler (nothing plot related but just those who may wish to hear the final boss music on the actual fight first)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9noLHazC3-Y naturally people immediately posted spoilers in the comments so beware of that
Damn this requires that DRM-free exe which I missed to get. That looks like it works so well, I hope Capcom actually adds a Turbo Mode officially down the road. Alternatively since the game was already widespread 'cracked' Capcom should just remove Denuvo officially too.
I still have the DRM free .exe if you want it.
Appreciated! Not sure if it's allowed to be shared here, but yeah I'd love to have it.
I like to live on the edge. Download
I've never played a DMC game before, or to be fair, anything that looks remotely like it, but DMC 5 looks super fun and it seems capcom are being decent devs atm so I'm tempted by it. Is it newcomer-to-the-series friendly and something worth getting?
there are a lot of dense mechanics to get into, especially when playing dante, but everything is still pretty fun, even if you play at a basic level there's a built-in plot summary so you aren't too lost, and the progression system is fairly generous. you won't know everything that's going on, but the cutscenes are an over-the-top blast most of the time, and this game has some of the best boss fights and enemy design (in terms of how enemies behave) in the series, so it should be plenty fun. there is also support for full control rebinding. dante should likely stay as-is, but I recommend rebinding controls for nero and V. in nero's case...rebind devil breaker to right trigger. it allows you to charge your breakers attacks while doing other things...and it will come in handy in your second playthrough for reasons I won't specify yet.
A lot of the plot and characters reference previous entries. There's a recap of every game so far included but it only gives you a quick summary of what happened without the nuances so you may miss out on those sort of references. I would say from a gameplay perspective it is newcomer friendly, the default normal difficulty (Devil Hunter as it's called) is pretty forgiving in comparison to previous entries, and there's a lot of crutches to help you get started. If you enjoyed Metal Gear Rising you're definitely going to enjoy this as well since MGR (and other similar character action games like Bayonetta) all came from the core Devil May Cry established. The 3 player characters all play differently (especially the newcomer V) but the game will put you up to speed for each of them relatively quick. I'd highly recommend picking up the DMC HD Collection and at least get started with DMC3 (ideally start with 1 for plot and appreciation of how the mechanics evolved, but 3 is a prequel of the whole series and it is the best in terms of story and gameplay) then proceed to 4 before diving onto 5. They're relatively short games too so they won't take too much of your time. However if you really can't resist diving straight away to DMC 5 and just going back to the older entries, that's alright too. You might just lose out on many of the elements both gameplay and story-wise that evolved through each game.
I'd skip 4, tbh that game is way too padded out for its own good, and if you're only running through it to get to 5, you'll also have to relearn nero once you make it to 5 I'd personally just watch 4's cutscenes. gameplay-wise, the only thing you're missing from 4 that isn't in 5 is the amazing Credo boss fight. and a few Dante weapons, I guess.
nero in 4 is mostly the same as in 5 except the bringer instead of breakers, and considering how fast you get new breakers and how many mechanics you're expected to understand in such a short time, the simpler nero in 4 would ease the curve significantly
nero in 4 has different air attack inputs and his gun functionality is completely different to the point that many people bind RT to keep gun charged full-time, since it's one of his most powerful attacks once fully-levelled and regardless of ease or whatever, you're still dealing with the fact that the second half of the game is just the first half in reverse with a different character and that sans credo, most of the bosses are...pretty underwhelming I'm saying this as someone who prefers Nero over Dante and has more time in 4 than any other DMC- that game is one of the most skippable in the series. it's not bad or anything, especially not compared to wuboot or 2, but there's nothing it does that 5 doesn't do better.
I agree that it is padded out, but I do still think it is worth trudging through those repetitive levels. As Hakita mentioned it's a good way to ease players into Nero's mechanics as well. Plus it has its moments too (other than the Credo boss fight) despite the issues that makes still a good experience overall. And mileage may vary per player, but I do think experiencing the cutscenes/story first-hand feels more rewarding to go through.
Okay, now I've also beaten DMC4. Damn. I'm definitely not regretting buying DMC5 on that whim, seeing how it got me to finally play this hype series of games. I'm feeling really motivated to get better at DMC5 now until Bloody Palace arrives. I'm also going to dust off my PS3 so I can download Bayonetta again, a game that I've owned for years but never really got into before.
