Posted this in Nintendo General but thought here would be good too.
So I have Labo VR and thought I'd give my 2 cents.
It's honestly really decent, tho keep in mind this is my first proper VR experience.
As an entry way to other VR, it's probably the best way, otherwise you'd have the shitty phone VR which is awful, or the expensive $250+ PSVR which is a ton of money if you don't like it.
It is fuzzy, but not as bad as I thought, the gameplay and fun makes up for it imo, I tend to forget I am even looking at a low res screen.
My arms do get tired but mainly with the Blaster (I have the starter pack), the regular goggles are fine.
Now I gotta say, as someone who never had Labo before, my god it's so fun building it, and even learning how it all works, it's fascinating to me.
And the Garage is so rewarding, making my guy run around was so incredible once I got him to actually move.
It seems dumb but as someone whose been wanting to make Games, having a guy run around, and figuring it out, was incredible.
After a while I was getting interested into future VR games and it got me thinking of games that would be great, especially for the low res screen, and it hit me.
The old NES-N64 (most likely Gamecube too) games, as they weren't made with resolutions higher than 360/480p in mind, and since the VR is around that area already, it wouldn't be too bad off.
Which got me to think even more, I remembered that there were videos on youtube for VR, and I tried some out and a lot of them worked great (tho the majority has double vision, just keep that in mind).
I launched up some Zelda ones like N64 OOT, and 3DS OOT (since well it was made for a 240p screen) and it looked great in VR.
Even twilight princess which really sold me on the idea, it honestly looked so damn good.
Quality wise too.
Even if it's not as clear, it'll still be incredible.
And then I got thinking, BOTW, the reason why I bought Labo VR, has VR videos, and I launched one and holy shit.
Even if the resolution is lower, it's gonna be incredible, looking at Temple of Time and seeing it tower over Link, and looking at the mountains in the distant and seeing the size, everything just clicked for me.
VR doesn't need high resolution screens or even 60fps (since all these videos were 30fps).
This shit is fine.
And the videos actually prove that with enough tinkering, these games can look better in VR.
And that's ignoring any future revision that could have 1080p screens.
This was worth the money, it's just amazing.
However tho there is a slight problem.
It scratched my glasses lenses.
Now, I knew the risk I was taking but for the most part it seemed to be fine, but then I took them off after a while and found them scratched. Right in the part where I look straight through, it'd be like having a dot in the middle of your vision. Now I assume you'll be able to get away wearing Glasses with VR if you don't have thick lenses like me (Ambylopia/Lazy Eye), but for those who do, please, PLEASE becareful. Use an old pair if you can, one that you don't really care about screwing up.
It really sucks, considering I need Glasses to even see so I can't take them off...well I can but not for long periods of time and especially not for VR.
I'm lucky I have a backup pair that isn't too different lense wise to my main pair lense. Just sucks I gotta take them and get it repaired, gonna cost me money that I don't have.
And on top of it, it may have scratched my VR lense, however it seems to be fine, but please becareful with that too.

Glad to hear it's interesting, but if it's your first proper experience with VR, I wouldn't make such bold claims :P
The Oculus DK1 blew my mind too back in the day too, but I'm glad higher res and refreshrate became the standard. You'll feel the difference in longer experiences.
I know 60fps and higher resolutions are better, I'm just saying that VR still works with low res and fps.
It's more important that the FPS (be it 30 or 60) is stable more than anything else otherwise I am on a train to nauseaville.
90 FPS is the standard framerate for VR on a PC
I feel 30 would make me throw up
I sort of miss the days of prototyping VR games with simple graphics because as time goes on less developers seem to understand that while you could get away with it in a regular game, a stable framerate is not optional in VR
I'm usually below 90 with my less than optimal setup and it really isn't that much of a problem as long as it's stable. Obviously 90 is ideal but 60 is fine and 30 is probably doable depending on the intensity of the game. I think you need 60+ if you are moving your head around a lot, that's where a lot of the nausea is going to come from, but for calmer games it matters a lot less.
30 is insufferable when playing a game where you move around, when just sitting there watching a video or something it's not the worst.
I'm limited to 60fps because I use my phone for vr and I think it's acceptable, 50fps it still playable but below 45fps it's not enjoyable at all.
I tend to get a pretty stable 90 fps, my only issue is load stutter. I have all my games on a 5400 rpm drive I ripped out of an old laptop. Whenever a new asset gets loaded in, Model, Sound, particle effect, what have you, I get a full on 1/4 second hitch. It's weird to see, but rarely makes me nauseated. I guess i'm just kinda used to it at this point, plus reprojection helps.
It is weird to have a sixth sense that something new is about to appear though. And very inconvenient when I fire a first round in a game like H3.
so basically its a matter of time before third party cheaper accesories allows you to use the switch as a VR device without the hassle that is buying a $80 worth of cardboard.
It "works"... but so does my old Stanza. Most consumers will want a higher framerate, even if they dont know it. Motion sickness comes from a desync of your movements with the VR. I'd take it a lot of base consumers woulden't know this, and would then write off VR as a gimmick which I'll be honest, I'm wanting this to move past that phase. It's doing it, but it's not easy.
its is counter intuitive however, considering botw in portable mode is a lot harsher and uses less image processing to keep a stable fps(wich it still doesnt, the game easily drops down to 20fps).
it was designed to look from afar so you would not notice things like the limited draw distance or fps drop. slapping the game right in your face and with a janked VR mode is... not really going to be pleasing.
I got my Pimax 5k+ in the mail and got it set up. I have a Oculus Rift and a Vive Pro as well.
And although I've only used the Pimax for a little bit, I think it may end up being my main headset, I'm honestly surprised at the quality considering it's an LCD and not OLED.
just popping in to say i beat osu!Memories in beat saber and have transcended time and space
i love this game
Actual 30 fps in VR makes me feel ill. However with reprojection technology 30fps not that bad, it's basically the max framerate you can get in VRChat anyway.
any sort of framerate drop or choppynmess immediately throws my brain off and makes me motion sick. I played F4 VR for the first time recently, and first time I left the vault, the game started to shake my view randomly.
It genuinely made me almost throw up
That's an issue with SLI if you've got it.
Oh I dont even want to know how terrible it would be without reprojection.
My girlfriend got me one of the labo kits for my birthday, I'll update y'all on my experience whenever we put it together.
Rumors say they're still putting it together
I got the blaster kit. I built the vr googles, then I saw the blaster build time was 120-180 minutes. its been sitting on my desk for 5 days. Ive thought about building it everyday but it just seems so intimidating.
All this speak of motion sickness reminded me that it was always something I scoffed at and never imagined I'd experience, because I never get nausea outside of VR. Oh man, was I in for a rude awakening- I took the quality of the few VR games I do play regularly for granted and tried out the Apollo 11 VR experience on my Oculus and man, the head movement is such a small issue but literally had my stomach aching after a few minutes. Quickest refund in my life, at nearly 10 minutes- and such a shame too, I was interested in the game. TY devs of games like H3VR, Beatsaber, and Pavlov. I could play those for literal hours on end and feel nothing yet mere seconds of slightly overreactive head tracking and misplaced head position ruined my night.

Got a friend's dad to print me a gunstock, hype
Update! After a good hour we got the base goggles together. Playing around in some of the little minigames has given me a good grasp of where it stands in comparison to the major headsets.
The optics are suprisingly nice? Big fresnel lenses with an appropriate distance from the screen. The screen feels like a similar, if slightly worse, psvr as far as screen door effect goes. The one real issue I have (apart from the lack of 6dof of course) is the motion blur. Head rotation causes a great deal of fuzziness due to latency/refresh rate.
All in all it reminds me of something between a dk1 and dk2. Putting it together was a blast though, kinda makes me wish I was/had a kid to experience it with. Decent introduction to VR for the completely uninitiated, and the simple but satisfying Nintendo control schemes situate it above mobile VR in my rankings.
I was looking to print that but wasn't sure how good it would be. Mind hitting me back with your experience with it?
Absolutely, receiving it on monday.
I had a blast using a gunstock for the first time ever last weekend at a place with some coworkers. I still need to do some setups with glue and magnets and shit but I'll defo @you when I've had a chance to use it.
Just picked up firewall zero hour on psvr, add me if you got it too and looking for teammates
Psn is furzparti
Also who has used those hacky programs to connect their psvr to pc? What's that experience like? I understand it may be a lot of effort to set up but if it works well, I'd much rather use the hardware I already have than shell out for a vive or something
I use a very similar one and can tell you these stocks make a huge difference in shooters, it feels way more natural when aiming and if your looking for an advantage this is going to give you one especially when shooting long range. Biggest issue of course is using pump action weapons or pistols but thats really just a case of putting it down or letting it go if you have a strap, it does make swapping to pistol a little bit slower in a pinch but the benefits outweighs that.
