Have been hype as fuck for knuckles and the mere possibility of a valve hmd for years. Preorder day finally comes and credit card shafted me and froze. Now im waiting for an estimated shipping on August 31. Gonna be hell seeing and hearing about these things in the wild for a couple of months. It's 3AM, gotta wake in 2 hours but i cant sleep. Seriously ticked off.
Pimax announced their hand tracking today as well. Its going to have finger tracking, so it will be interesting if it will be cheaper than the index. Could be a good option of people where the index isn't available in their country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJM7V7luujQ Where are you guys checking the estimated ship date for your Knuckles?
They could atleast try to be a little less obvious.
Video of the new guardian setup on Rift S, it's very similar for the Quest: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/bjiw7f/guardian_setup_passthrough_mode_on_oculus_rift_s/ Seeing as Valve has a better passthrough system now too, maybe they'll make something similar.
Shame they were out of stock, I just got a $1000 refund check cause my college canceled my upcoming class and I was gonna use it like a responsible adult.
been trying to poach ebay vive listings for £300 seems like a cheap way to get a kit i can upgrade with the index over time, two of the index basestations alone are £280, hopefully some idiot accepts my offer
hit me up on discord at nahash#7046 i bought one for business but turns out I don't need it anymore

My OG Rift is falling apart after 3 years of use and this hits the sweet spot of an affordable upgrade. Higher res, better optics, more subpixels, passthrough video and no sensor wires running around my living room. I can deal with slightly less black blacks, and the 1 in 1000 no-tracking situation where I put my hands behind my back for some reason. I need the headset this month as my OG Rift will not survive much longer. Index is already preordered into September, would be too much downtime. This thing ships in 3 weeks and is half the price. Might take a look at the Index in 1 year or so after it has dropped in price, but for now, S it is.
will index work with 1.0 basestations?
should https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229888/c22b46b9-c31d-4c15-b523-2167f7d8e65e/image.png
I think I'm gonna sit on it for a bit and wait, thanks for the offer though.
can you remove the embed from that link? it keeps auto-playing when i open this thread
Got myself full Index Kit. Can't wait! Now with two VR systems I will be able to play multiplayer games with boyfriend, yey
I've had the same idea.
got a vive from cex, couple of issues i enabled powermanagement but the basestations still dont power down the strap feels like it sits really high and doesnt feel very secure, is this normal? my previous experience is with a dk2 is there any way to find all vr games in my library i have some games i know support vr but they arnt listed any games you would suggest looking at? what do you think of my basestation setupi think the fov might be a bit restricted by the walls but it seems to work ok https://imgur.com/a/VtVH4MN i have about 2.4x2 meters, i could probably increase that a fair bit if i rearranged my room
Are you leaving the base stations for a few minutes? Mine take several, sometimes up to ten minutes to go to sleep after turning off steam VR If you have the OG strap, it's pretty wank and generally isn't that secure, no. There's a way to loosen it iirc if you need it to fit it on a bigger head. I'd honestly recommend purchasing the deluxe audio strap. It makes a world of difference, but it's not cheap. If a game isn't listed under the VR tab in steam, you'll need to manually find it and add it to the VR filter by right clicking and going into properties. This is an issue for basically all games that have had VR added in post-release. As far as your base stations go, they look fine to me, though have you tested the tracking when it comes to the floor? You want to make sure that the VR controllers are tracked properly when they're laying flat on the ground, especially when you're doing the set up process.
its been about 20 minutes now and the basestations still havnt powered down
I have the same problem, and mine are the 2.0 lighthouses. Never was able to get it to work correctly, eventually I gave up and just leave them on all the time.
Same here, I just manually unplugged them after playing. Wouldn't recommend leaving them on all the time as it will work against the lifetime of the laser.
For anyone not tuned in, the launch date for Valve is June 28th according to multiple posts on /r/ValveIndex https://i.redd.it/nq3j1eui4kw21.jpg Look forward to it. Also, apparently the controllers sold out yesterday/early this morning.
The guy who got the Rift S early by sheer luck and employee fuckups, has posted some in-lens comparisons between the S and the Vive. Vive left, S right. https://i.imgur.com/afWXWGn.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bLUTJWf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dl1OO9Y.png https://i.imgur.com/fhUnlEz.png https://i.imgur.com/8oIvoMM.png https://i.imgur.com/4GjrKbw.png
I'm a huge fan of VR. I think it has great potential for many game types. Today VR is becoming more and more popular in many fields, not only in gaming. I read that Computer vision is also popular field of study which investigates how to make computers understand visual information. Soon, all will accept the reality of a complete nonreality.
I haven't used my rift since about January now as I got disenfranchised by my lack of space and thus my terrible sensor setup. What are you guys playing these days? Did I miss any big new releases?

TL;DR of Tested video: Simple Setup Better Clarity (combination of better lenses, greatly reduced godrays, resolution bump and extra subpixel, good pixel fill factor) Noticeable visual improvements over CV1 Rift, they say the CV1 is far behind in terms of picture quality compared to S. Not a huge jump, but it's definitely one of the biggest upgrades in S. Blacks have a greyish tint as expected from LCD. Not obnoxious "bright grey", but not inky black like the OLEDs. Just a greyish tint that makes you think "Yep, it's an LCD". Space gamers beware Passthrough is adjusted to stereo correct Lack of physical IPD wasn't an issue for them or their kids, suggesting large sweet spot Tracking works well. (Even in Lone Echo. You will lose tracking if you hold your hand behind your head for more than 1-2 seconds, but Jeremy doesn't consider it game breaking. Players will learn the limitations) Audio solution is convenient and has good spatial audio, but very poor bass. May want headphones for certain games (3D printed holders for original Rift headphones shown, that attach to the S)
tbh the only negative I see with the Rift S is the audio solution. It seems terrible. One of the things I like most about the OG Rift is how good the built in headphones sound. I have a pair of good headphones for my PC but I don't feel the need to use them. With the S I definitely would and it would just add that little extra annoyance. I remember when Palmer was creating the Rift he was very proud of the audio solution and thought it was a key element of the whole. It really sucks that they have gone back on that now he's gone.
Index's offset headphone solution is something I never even considered. I particularly like it since I prefer to be able to hear what's going on around me when I'm effectively blind, and also the non-contact does sound more immersive than having a speaker smashed against your ear.
I was really excited to get a vive and maybe do some development with it... but I ended up returning it because I was underwhelmed with the experience and its value. Maybe I set my standards too high, but I'll probably have to wait a while before the technology gets better before buying one.
I dont understand the audio options change, the original rift's audio is nothing short of fantastic and I have yet to find anyone who disagrees. So why fix something that ain't broke? Is it due to lenovo being involved?
dunno why noones used a transducer headphones seems like the perfect solution im a bit sceptical about inside out tracking but it seemed good enough in tested's review although that was under studio lighting
