Oh my that sure looks like a very good idea, it certainly looks kinda like a better solution to some other options out there but those devices on the feet do look a bit clunky tho, even tho I'm sure it's just a prototype and so far it looks amazing. Is there more info somewhere of this or some kind of Kickstarter or whatever?
Nope, none such just yet. They've got some private investors but they're still staying a bit in the dark until they put out their first public demonstrations of the hardware.
Definitely looks more practical than most treadmill designs I've seen, though clearly still has a long way to go
For whatever reason vivecraft is one of the most potentially-nauseating experiences I've seen personally. It's amazing when you're past that, either through different locomotion or just getting used to it, especially when you play around with modding it. It's pleasantly surprising how many mods work well with it.
I've used sliding locomotion for pretty much every game that has it but it never effected me like it did looking off that cliffside after climbing up.

Pavlov Quest edition is already on alpha 4, damn they move quick. I'm having a blast with it, despite the visual limitations. They've improved the performance a ton since they started. I just played online for a while and had a blast. Still, only issue for me is the controller tracking. Here's hoping the updates Orkel mentioned can make up for that. It's interesting to see how solid the unreal engine can perform on ARM.

I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, but I'm really impressed by Vader Immortal on the Quest. Solid narrative, great animation, one of the most polished VR hand interaction systems I've seen, and very 'authentic'-feeling lightsaber combat. Not very long (it's the first episode) but certainly worth the 10 bucks.
Valve Index NDA has been lifted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuobWbxGfnY https://uploadvr.com/valve-index-hardware-preview/ https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/05/one-week-with-the-valve-index-a-vr-game-changer-with-a-few-question-marks/ https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/28/18639084/valve-index-steamvr-headset-knuckles-controllers-preview https://www.pcworld.com/article/3397088/valve-index-vr-headset-impressions.html https://www.polygon.com/platform/amp/virtual-reality/2019/5/28/18642360/valve-index-vr-headset-impressions-price
Here's hoping Valve actually has any of their VR games ready for the Index's release window...
Ey I'm gonna talk about the knuckles and Oculus Quest because I had the chance to fool around with both of them. Knuckles: The knuckles feel like a huge huge step forward, for both good and bad reasons. They're cool, because your hands have complete and total articulation but my experience was rather finicky. I think it's a combination of the controllers inherently having a bit of a curve to learn how to truly use them in a practical way. on a software level though there don't appear to be a whole lot of ways to try these puppies out. the only free one out there might be moondust? Someone can correct me there but until boneworks or whatever valve has cooking in the oven comes out, I don't see a point it getting these for most people. Moondust itself was honestly not a great tech demo? the stuff it showed off I don't exactly feel were game changers and sometimes I felt when it worked best it didn't really use the new features too much. I guess I'm being a little harsh because it appears it was made by two dudes and not valve themselves, but I'm just a little disappointed that it doesn't convince me about the possibility of the hardware as much as The Lab did. maybe not a fair comparison since it was one of the very first vr games out there before anyone knew what the fuck to do with motion controls. I just feel no urge myself to go out and buy these, maybe it will be worth it in half a year or so. Oculus Quest: Honestly on paper I was already excited by the idea that these things were presenting. VR on the go? and I don't have to be tethered to anything? The guy who owned them said that these were the first headset he could unambiguously recommend to just about anyone. I didn't spend too too much actually playing around with this myself but obviously this takes a hit in the graphics department. for most experiences that would honestly be fine with me, framerate is more important to me than strictly graphical fidelity. The downside for me at least is that the quest is obviously pretty locked down. It's not totally clear to me if you did a drawing inside of tiltbrush, could you take it off the headset? If I did some animation inside of quill, how would I put it on my computer. it's not really intended as a creative tool in itself, which I'm a little bummed about. Maybe that will change as more apps get on the device, maybe the support will get better for that sort of thing. But it looks great for everything other than the highest end vr games. I could imagine bringing this to a party and having a good time with beatsaber or gorn. Really if you had to ask which one I wanted right now, it would be the quest. the appeal is way more immediate and it takes a step towards making vr more accessible, which is something I've always lamented about the state of VR. The knuckles are cool though! maybe they'll become the standard going forward and the oculus rift 2.0 will go for something similar. I just can't see the appeal, right this second.
It's so fitting of modern valve to not even have any games for the release of their own bespoke hardware.
They already said that one game will be released this year. Don't expect more info anytime soon tho. Maybe except the E3 VR stuff, they "might" show up then. But I doubt it.
So I found this at my doorstep today. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1641/0e9944da-60fc-453c-8f07-ca50c7b88ae5/IMG_20190531_123155.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1641/f0d83645-ecbb-456d-a77c-78d4e12da8b3/IMG_20190531_123730.jpg I didn't quite expect this, so I don't currently have a HMD nor trackers. Q&A: Q: Are they comfortable? A: They sit damn well even with my skinny tiny baby hands. Q: Do you easily lose them when trying to throw something? A: I tried a baseball throw at full power and they didn't move anywhere.

Ah found the changelog https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1592989740
And the changes between DV and final are minimal from what I've heard. They've improved the fit of the strap a bit and improved the strength of the lever as far as I know. Also the DV doesn't have any "Valve" or "Index" markings, just the FCC not approved stickers.
So a FNAF VR came out and I'm surprised I heard nothing about it considering how big FNAF used to be. Now the series as a whole ended up becoming sort of a shitshow, but I always had a special place in my heart for the original FNAF and the type of horror it explored. I definitely had to check out FNAF VR when I saw that it was not only a full remake of FNAF 1, but 2, 3 and a bunch of minigames as well. The games really great. Lot of effort went into recreating all the environments, and it blows the originals out of the water. I mean, the animatronics actually move in this one! The remakes are absolutely worth checking out. For how simple the first three games were, it makes sense that they're all remade here as a bundle - but the remakes alone justify the price if you ask me. On top of that you have some stellar VR horror demos that use the FNAF brand for some genuinely interesting VR horror experiences. One of the minigames has you repairing the animatronics, up close and personal, having to stick your hand down their throat and follow instructions perfectly. It's just really great. I find it difficult to track down well fleshed-out VR horror titles, especially ones that I can easily show to friends. This is one of my favorites after just a few short play sessions, imo.
when do you get charged if you reserve the index controllers, now or when they ship? tempted to order shine the ship by date is the end of july but im after a ps4 pro as well
When I pre-ordered my base stations they instantly charged me. It makes sense, otherwise anyone could 'purchase' one clogging the system while they might not even follow through. However I presume you can refund at any time if it's not shipped yet.
thanks, do you still have the basestations preordered? you can buy gen1 versions used cheaper and in most situations they work just as well ill probably put the pro on hold and order index controllers, i mostly wanted it for death stranding but theres other exclusive i have been putting of playing until i can upgrade my standard ps4
I do actually. I have thought about this but the gen1 base stations are actually more expensive to get new here and I'm not a huge fan of getting them second hand (not to mention the lack of full Vive kits on the Dutch 2nd hand market). I was actually thinking of waiting to see if I can find someone who sells their set cheap because they ravaged the controllers or something. Really want to try out my Knuckles. In case I can get 2 very cheap base stations and a temporary HMD I'd probably keep the base stations and just sell the headset later, though the price will probably just go straight down at this point.
if anyone else was wondering it didnt charge me to reserve the knuckles, said it will hold the order 7 days for me to complete it once its ready to ship thats kind of annoying because i dont usually check that email address
After about a week of owning the quest I am really impressed. Being able to make use of my living room instead of my smaller space where my PC is, is really liberating. Tracking holds up well and the selection of games currently on the store is decent too. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205217/92667388-e44d-491d-a773-b633ecb2bce1/ultrawings.mp4 https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205217/f689e37a-fd29-4672-9be6-e7d8e97b845a/journey.mp4 https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205217/d6913f3f-fe07-4e21-9a92-0aad9884432a/pavlov.mp4
Is there a list somewhere with announced games for the oculus quest?
anyone know what this is, i showed my friend vrchat which she really likes and some shooters which were mostly a disaster of her trying to work out the controls i think she would find a lewd game fun but i dont want to spend much if any money maybe nsfw https://twitter.com/x_hisabilly_x/status/900650815802585088
You're in luck...it's on steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/751440/VR_Kanojo__VR/ However if you want the extreme NSFW i'm pretty sure you have to download an unofficial patch.
yikes thats a bit much just for a laugh
