Super Smash Bros. General v23: Generic Thread Title To Piss People Off Edition

Brawler's counter can kill at like 50% and even lower if you grab someone trying to edgeguard you. Personally I can't see the point of taking Brawler without the counter.
you likely won against a dude that had a higher number than you
I can also speak from experience and confirm that the less you've played a character, the more the amount of gsp you get/lose. It'll stabilize over time.
So I'm kinda late to this discussion but I feel like if they were to add a character from TF2 in Smash (already pretty unlikely, although Gabe Newell has been pretty open about the fact that he seems to prefer Ninty over Microsoft or Sony following the Orange Box DLC controversy) it'd actually be Demo, because unlike any of the other classes his default loadout (and all of his unlockables iirc) is the only one that doesn't have any bullet-based weaponry. The only issue I can see is the alcohol references. In which case it might be easier to add Soldier, but with any of his unlockable secondaries (I think the Bison would probably be easiest to implement) replacing the shotgun.
we have passed the era of "wowie bullets are so scary" a long time ago
I wouldn't say so exactly. While Bayo does have and use guns, they're still "magic guns" that shoot "magic bullets". Right now I'd say the biggest factor on whether or not they'll ever have a character use an actual gun will be if Joker uses his at all in any of his moves. If his gun doesn't show up in any way, I think it's would be safe to assume no guns will appear at all.
I'm not sure how it would even work out with the ESRB or other regional rating systems if Nintendo added more realistic firearms post release. The ESRB page already mentions the use of firearms, but moral policing isn't exactly 100% consistent with groups like this so for all we know one of them could flip the fuck out and start demanding fines or copies to be taken off shelves.
Good luck with that. Brawler is easily the worst of the 3 simply because of how slow and up close they are. They do good amounts of damage, sure, but they're easily read and have A LOT of end lag if you whiff/hit on shield, leading to you being easily punished. Recovery is also the worst, you pretty much have to go with the feign kick down B in order to even have an almost tolerable recovery.
Online, I'd say Mii Gunner is probably the best simply because right now, with the game's netcode, projectiles are really annoying to deal with, and having what is essentially Ness's PK Fire (just slower) is really good as a control tool.
Mii Swordfighter is good, and they of course have the "meme death confirm" of tornado into aerial spinning up b at like 80% I wanna say?
While Mii Brawler is the worst of the three I still will always appreciate the time I won against my friends as Agent 47- throwing bowling balls at other players never felt more rewarding (other than Hitman '16)
I also won when my friend fell off the stage, and I muttered "accident kill"
I have to say, after a while of playing Dorf online, I'm starting to appreciate his new voiceover.
This is the first time they've given him an actually intimidating tone, fitting his OoT throwback look perfectly. Combined with his faster gameplay, he genuinely feels like someone you do NOT want to fuck with, even moreso than usual.
Here's another one.

That is adorable.
I didn't know the counter was shit until I had already played several matches. Good to know the flip is decent. if I'm turned in the right direction for it to even help
I've changed my character from being closer to 'canon' to being a biiit more viable, and it's starting to work.
I'm also trying to play less honorably I mean more defensively
monky
from my experience the only choice you really have if you wanna be competitive with Brawler is your upb now that piston uppercut isn't a kill confirm, sideb suplex is huge as an option against shield-heavy enemies, downb flip is easily one of the best moves in the game (at least for movement options now that it has awful endlag), neutral b shotput is huge for mindgames because of how its momentum works.
Picked up a Marth amiibo for the hell of it, started training it when I got home.
Why did I not try Marth earlier? He's fun as hell. Those tipper hits are so satisfying and chunky in this game, and his Dair feels like it covers half a ZIP code.
I wonder if Pokken+ and Smash were given a list of Pokemon to pick one from, and Sakurai was given first choice. Both of them fit nicely in a fighting game
Some more tidbits thanks to PushDustin's replies:
Zelda is confirmed to be based on Link to the Past AND Link Between Worlds.
Xenoblade 2 and ARMs characters just had bad timing for the project plan.
King K Rool's concept was to be a heavy, but do things that a heavy character normally wouldn't be able to do.
Piranha Plant was decided because it's a character that isn't a hero. Sakurai and the team felt if all the characters were heros it'd be a bit boring. Also, the Piranha Plant is well known.
I will admit, this was the right direction to go for K.Rool
Shame about XB2 and ARMS popping up too late in the planning phase though, not a huge fan of either game but I would've liked seeing them both represented

"Today is the 20th anniversary of the Super Smash Bros. For twenty years, I have seen a lot of things that have been played intensely and happily.
In various houses, gatherings, competitions, offices of the same business.
Of course, it was hard work, but I think it is a very happy thing. Thank you for playing."
An ARMS fighter would've been the coolest shit, though, that game isn't great but it has incredible character design.
Whatever, K. Rool is awesome and Incineroar has so much visual personality, I'm incredibly happy with both of them.
Even if we don't get another Fighter Pass, it'd be kinda foolish of Nintendo to avoid commissioning Rex and Spring Man/Ribbon Girl/Min Min/Twintelle as extra characters for late 2020. They were really lucky to introduce so many popular new characters in the Switch's first year, and it'd be a shame if they didn't capitalize on that.
If there is one thing you don't wanna do. It's announce a character was almost a thing. But then another character stole that spot. Imagine if later they are like "yeah it was almost Geno but we went with piranha plant instead"
Notice though, how the word "instead" or any like it are never used when discussing characters who were or were not chosen.
They never imply one took another's spot. The most they ever say is "we included this character because X" or "we could have included that character, but we didn't because Y"
Chelsea Manning telling Josh Sawyer that she loves New Vegas on hbomberguy's stream is something I never quite thought I'd witness
Honestly I keep thinking about how DLC could work in this game beyond the Mii Costumes and new fighters.
I feel like it falls back to the idea of new alt costumes as I think I mentioned before; let's say that we have to restrict it to new costumes that won't change their animations or voices at all.
"Casual" outfit from Happy Home Designer/Welcome Amiibo for Isabelle
"Horned" cap outfits from GCN Animal Crossing for Villager
Koopa Kid from the early Mario Party games for Bowser Jr.
New (or previously retired) Yoshi colors
Shiny palettes for Pichu/Pikachu/Pokemon Trainer/Mewtwo/Incineroar/Greninja (opening animation would include sparkles as in the original games)
Ash Greninja for Greninja
The other Cosplay Pikachu outfits for Pikachu
...Ash Ketchum for Pokemon Trainer?
Ancient/Giant Jigglypuff from the early anime for Jigglypuff
Morpho Knight for Meta Knight
Wedding Bowser for Bowser
Meowser for Bowser
Dry Bowser for Bowser
Ms. Pacman for Pacman
I don't think any of these would need any changes in animations, as cases of tails/capes are usually handled by the physics system rather than animations.
At the same time, adding music packs (i.e. 10 songs for $1.99) for franchises that didn't get a whole lot would be incredible too and be a pretty good way to keep the game going during droughts of other DLC things. Like Windmill Isle (Day) for the Sonic Lost World stage as one example.
Can't forget my main man Mr. L
Nah but to be honest one thing I've always found weird is how Olimar is just him and Alph. None of the other captains?
Louie at the very least would be a perfect fit. Brittany, Charlie and the President would be great too but I can see how they might slight need animation changes.
