I honestly think Piranha Plant might be a bad matchup against literally everyone. He doesn't have the range or projectile game to deal with swordies, his absolutely atrocious air speed and heavy weight makes him an extra large combo meal with a shake, and his lack of speed, slow to trigger aerials and lack of fast ranged projectiles means he gets absolutely bodied by characters like Lucas camping under platforms with projectiles. Who exactly does that leave? Who is piranha plant good against?
There seem to be quite a few bugfixes in 2.0 (basically, everything notable has been patched besides what 2.0 introduced), including replacing the Masked Man fansprite and fixing "Bein' Friends".
They also made these changes to spirits to improve enjoyability, according to TCRF:
Spirits now stay on the Spirit Board if players lose to them once, only disappearing after 3 consecutive losses.
Spirits included in the 1.1.0 update can now be purchased in the in-game shop. This accommodates the Golden Dash Mushroom, River Survival, Dice Block, Partner Pikachu, and Partner Eevee Spirits.
Good on Nintendo for conceding on the Mario Party spirits if true!
What the fuck? I booted up Smash expecting to get Piranha Plant, but it says I have to pay? I bought the game at launch, and redeemed the my nintendo points for it right away. Am I missing something here???
Okay, and now we wait for more word on the fighter pass.
I’m expecting Joker to be added no later than E3, and a tease for the next one at the next Nintendo Direct.
E3 is all the way in June and the Fighter Pass is set to be finished by Feb 2020. Unless they back load the entirety of Pass, 7 months for the first character seems like a very unlikely long time. I think Joker is more than likely going to be released in April at the very earliest, tbh.
Yup, a fighter every 2 months may be reasonable.
I'm just hoping we get to find out the next fighters sooner rather than later. I know that universal DLC policy is that you drag out the hype train as long as possible but I really don't care about how long it takes for the characters to be playable, I just want to know who they are.

With plant deleting save files, and so are Duck Hunt and Mii Swordfighter apparently. I wonder if that tells us anything.
April also lines up with the Persona 5 related announcements happening in April. Would make perfect sense for Joker to hit Smash then to help promote something related to those announcements (perhaps the rumored Switch port of the game).
i've had the personal theory that they don't want to have an imbalance of codecs, since iirc brawl was mostly balanced between colonel, otacon, and mei ling codecs, and adding more codecs with the latter two would make the number with colonel look smaller.
similar reason i believe sonic's got a lacking music selection, the first 3 games are legal trouble to get rights to, so they can't splurge on them, so they just don't splurge on *any* of sonic's tracks. main themes and/or first levels and that's it.

I'm excited by the seemingly limitless possibilities the Fighters Pass presents, but I'm also hoping they take this opportunity to fill in otherwise gaping holes in the roster people would otherwise think impossible, rather than just going for shock value, you know?
Like, no one except Alpharad expected Joker, and people loved it. A similar kind of reveal for someone like Doom Guy or Scorpion/Sub-Zero or Scrooge McDuck or whatever would make people lose their minds, but I also think I'd rather see the more comparatively boring loose-ends tied up before we move on to characters we never even considered, you know?

I might be reaching, but what I was meaning was Nintendo was testing Piranha Plant in the clown car, and might have given the character its own car, before deciding on it moving under its own power. If that's the case someone saw what they were working on and leaking it, without anyone else realizing it.
The added endlag to Duck Hunt's clay pigeon and the drastic reduction to its hitstun means you can no longer carry people off the edge with it, negating his only early kill tool. It wasn't even easy to do, and didn't work on every character.
I can't believe they nerfed a fighter that's already played very little in tourney, and only as a counterpick. He's a good boy, he deserves better than this.
Likely, they were used as a base so that they could possibly have resistance on the pot?
All characters are built off of others, it just makes sense to do so that way from a design perspective instead of starting over from scratch, each time.
Highly recommend checking out the VODs for Doubles Top 8 for Genesis 6, the teamwork on teams like Light and Marss is crazy.
I've always felt that doubles is by far the most interesting way to play Smash, leading to all kinds of crazy unique strategies and showing a lot of off-meta characters at their best.
It's just always been a logistical challenge to actually get a team together and practice for doubles. Public PUGs for high-level 2v2 are exceptionally rare compared to solos.
Alright I made it into Elite Smash with planty boi pretty fast, only about half an hour or so of matches
