Can someone explain to me, a peasant who has never played the original RE2, what's going on? I've read that there are two 'scenarios' for each character but it's not clear to me how you're supposed to play the game. Are you supposed to play through with one character, then play that same character's other scenario (ie do the two characters have roughly the same role in each scenario)? Or play one character, then switch to the other (ie each character has a separate story, and the alternate scenario lets you swap them)? This is really confusing.
The original RE2 had something called a 'zapping' system, which allowed for 2 different scenarios to play out from 4 possible sequences depending on who you play as first, then proceed to play afterwards. The two playable characters, Leon and Claire, have an A & B scenario. The first character you play as gets the A scenario, with the second character after finishing the first character's playthrough will go through their B scenario. Each scenario has some plot differences and different routes. Some things the characters did in their A scenarios will affect things differently for the next character's B scenario. This results in a Leon A/Claire B playthrough or a Claire A/Leon B playthrough. Prior to RE2 Remake's existence, it was said that the Claire A/Leon B playthrough was considered canon, although some details from a LeonA/Claire B playthrough also melds some canon plot points that are referred to later into the series.
So if I play through Leon A and then start on Claire B, is it the same basic story I just went through with a few differences, or a totally separate story?
The B scenario is a separate story yeah, which assumes a premise that is after what happened in the A scenario.
Got it, thank you for the explanation. Thinking I might buy this tonight as the reviews seem pretty positive.
Is there a global release time or can we use a vpn?
It seems to be coming out earlier outside the US. As of the time of posting this reply, 13 hours in the US and 8 hours over here and apparently in Australia as well.
Already saw it standing in the shelves at a local vendor but they couldn't sell it yet at GameStop
got 7 hours for me in the UK, seems to be coming out about 11 PM here
Tempted to use a VPN to unlock it early; but I have to work anyway and by the time I get home, RE2 will either be out or close to it so I think I'll wait to play it. Going to give the one-shot demo one more go today though. Capcom released a live action trailer for the game; inspired by the old George Romero directed trailer for the OG RE2. https://youtu.be/8Wcd7kQ7sus
i've been home sick and i was hoping to game through it today but i guess i have to wait until later, damn
Every time I think about the weapons in classic RE2, I legitimately forget there's a fucking laser lightning shotgun
Hunks line of thisis war, survival is your own responsibility evenwhen it concerns himself bums me out and humbles me at the same time. Guy is a legend
Saw some gameplay videos of some costumes and noticed that some of them hides all equipment which is kind of a bummer, invisible pistol holsters, can't see the slinged weapons on the back. No big deal just alittle disappointed.
Went back later and got it Installing right now
Welp, lots of spoilers on youtube. I say spoilers because i never got to play the original RE2. :<
It's fair to be wary of spoilers. The orphanage area is completely new, not in the original, and enemy encounters will be totally different.
Gee, thanks for spoiling that one as well .
It's been advertised, but I guess that was dumb of me lol

Apparently the game is playable in about 1 hour for us norwegians.
Over an hour and people are saying it's not unlocked. Supposedly gotta wait even longer.

The game will release in 30 minutes.
My Gamestop is releasing it 9pm tonight. I'm excite.
i bought the retail pc release and it comes with 3 installation discs and yet when i run the setup it will just download the whole 21gb off steam and not install off the discs why is this happening why isn't it using the discs
GAME TIME BOIS. Please muster extra patience because of the unpacking part.
Odd. It's still showing as 4 hrs for me. Even on different locations.
According to a streamer I was just watching (LobosJR) the game unlocks later for North America for some reason. Also, why the fuck is the steam unpacker so fucking bad? It's currently saying it'll take 4 days to unpack. I could delete and redownload the game in like 2 hours, less if I turn my bandwidth cap off.
