Grenades from the thumper is a Licker-Be-Gone
Is there a sneak-button I missed or how do I walk past the lickers with kb+m? It seems to not matter if I run or walk they just lunge at immediately me when I'm in the same space as them. They hit real hard and take several shotgun blasts to the face, so I'd like to be able to sneak past them.
ladies and gentlemen, RE is back I haven't seen a game that made me this anxious and creeped out in a while. A good while at that. Playing it with the original soundtrack is a treat. Feels very different from the demo, that sounded very monotone, and ends up being genuinely unsettling. Wading through the corridors with the original beats makes it so tense. You might not even hear zombies moan and groan near you, but exploring for example the prison cell part, with the kenel and the morgue, and having that dire catacombic feeling beat of the original sure gives me the willies. Same for just about any place where the original soundtrack plays. It always sounds eerie as fuck while crossing blood soaked corridors. The only track I feel is a bit badly used is the one that played whenever you got a surprise attack, like when crows bursted through the windows, or you opened that door outside and two zombies went through the memorable door opening/loading animation, or when Marvin turned. It used to be in these key places that sort of pressed you against a wall into making fast decisions. Not that it doesn't does the same in the remake, since in a certain part you really have to think fast on how you're gonna do things to save ammo and not get hurts then or any time in the future, but I feel like it doesn't fits the scene. It doesn't center pieces it, shoving it in your face. It's like watching a zombie flop inside into the station in a veeery slow way, from far away, while squinting your eyes a bit to see what exactly is happening, with the "OMG AAAAH SHIT IS HAPPENING, ACT FAST AAAAA" tune blarring, and you kind of feel "AAaahoh... That's not so bad". Do me a favour for a bit of a laugh. Don't open the morgue crypt sliding door things in one motion. Open them slowly, especially, iirc, the middle one on the right, just after entering it. It triggers the music even if you "peek" slowly into its inside, and its just funny. I just wish the footsteps were a bit louder and echoed harder, to mimic the sense of loneliness in that giant hellish building. I am GLAD the original soundtrack also changes the menu scrolling sounds. Reusing RE7's sounds is a bit bad imo, I feel like it fit RE7 more than this, and its just a little bit more of nostalgia that, for some reason really clicks on well with me. Hearing the main hall and save room themes takes me back every time. Graphics, well I don't really have to comment on that. They're obviously great. They lack the aesthetics of prerendered from the original, which gave things a very distinct look to them, making things look grim as fuck, while this goes for a more... Graphicaly gorgeous scenery. Everything looks sweet, nothing really to say about it, other than maybe its too dark for the sake of being "dark horror game" dark? The original didn't need this, but it DOES kind of give you a bit of a mood, and helps with encounters since some zombies do stay quiet and hidden in the dark. Some areas also still rock the exact same color scheme of the original, which I quite liked. The map design is a mixed bag for me though. Positive but still mixed. I don't know if it comes later down the line after getting the clubs key, as I hear set pieces like encountering Kendo aren't the same as the original, but in the beggining, you don't traverse the city all that much before reaching RCPD. You don't go through the bball court, you don't go through the stairs right after, you don't go through that small part with your first zombie faking dead inside the bus and the small group of zombies eating a corpse before going into the bus... You just take a small walk from the place you crashed, turn a few seconds after you started walking, down and up some stairs through an alleyway, and after going through a maze of cars, you're there. Zombies aren't much of a threat here either. They're either completely not giving a fuck about you, or just seem to not care about you after you're far enough away from them. Kind of feels like they made it a bit too easy here. I did like some of the additions like the gas station though. The new areas are cool enough. Just some places here and there I'd have prefered they didn't change them, but its still not that big of a loss. Puzzles seem easier. You still have to backtrack, but it doesn't feels alien to me. The original felt like a true goddamn maze. I had no idea where things where, and you had a fuckton of things to get, not knowing what to get first. The remake makes this a lot easier. it doesn't feels like you have to do a whole lot of backtracking to use that one thing you finally got. Gameplay and enemy interaction is something that I feel like evolved in a really good way though. I was worried that the 3rd person perspective would make things too easy. Well, level design and the way enemies are built would like to have a word with you. I'm not QUITE sure, but the only way to effectively eliminate a zombie is to blowing off the WHOLE head. You used to be able to shoot its head and kill it right then and there, and leave him like that. Nothing else required. Now, I THINK I've put about 20 bullets into a zombie's head, having it not blow up, and the damn bastard just stood up again. Right after, shooting another one, then knifing him RE4 style, move on to the next, and the ones behind me get up again. Now that I mention this, I'd like if someone could confirm this. I quite like this system, because you have to make some damn good choices. Which takes me to how zombies are built and level design. Hallways are tight. I mean, TIGHT. If you meet with a zombie in a hallway, you're gonna get bit unless you shoot it or stick something into it. Dodging works IF you have enough space. You can close call them when running in a straight line, but if you for example go through a door and theres a zombie right next to you, even if his back is turned to you, he will very likely grapple you. So what is the best way to take down a zombie? Got ammo to spare? Blow their heads off with the shotgun. Otherwise, shoot some of their limbs off. They can still bite you, but they won't be as much of a nuissance. Even zombie dogs get blown the fuck up by a shotgun shot. What is a nuissance? The lickers. Fuck those guys. They move extremely fast, take QUITE a lot of ammo, and deal a HUUGE load of damage on you. In tight corridors, they look like a fucking truck. And if you aim without aim assist, things might get that extra bit of dicey to get a good shot and not waste ammo. Same goes for bosses. You can still ham them up, but they won't be as forgiving imo. Except Mr.X I hear that fucker come after me and I just run the fuck away. Fuck fighting him. Fuck right off.
as far as ive found they still kinda detect you even when youre just walking, but they wont immediately run to you and attack you like when youre running. theyll slowly make their way to you and only attack when they get within a range. i just waited for them to be out of my path or on the ceiling or something so i would have the time to walk past them
aw ffs, so no idea what happened last night but I was able to play without it crashing at all, but its randomly started again this morning despite me having made no fucking changes. tried a full clean reinstall of my drivers but still happening. i give up
In regards to taking out enemies with total head destruction. I've just unlocked the infinite ammo pistol so I'm free to experiment with shooting zombies to pieces for my own pleasure. I dropped a zombie with nothing but dick shots and he was 100% done for.
Ive got a bit of involvement with what happened here. I mostly distanced myself from it but I knew a lot of the people involved. Welsh/Colvin was a shady guy and we always bumped heads. As for the build getting leaked, that was thanks to Rmandel and I think TheMortician. I had been given a copy prior to the leak going public but it was mostly useless to me. I was only ever interested in the chracter/creature models. As for anything else, lots of backstabbing, rampant elitism, betrayal, rumors of people hacking one another, stealing of data/projects from others and so much bullshit drama.... yeah it was a clusterfuck. Team IGAS wasnt innocent either.
Any advice on beating Birkin after you grab the virus? I'm stuck there with no healing besides that one spray in the arena and I'm already on Danger. I've got like 18 shots for the shotgun, 3 MAG bullets, a bunch of grenades and flashbangs + the stuff laying around in the arena. I've died like 15 times already and I can't find a way to reliably dodge his attacks or deal any damage once he goes into phase 3 where he only has eyeballs on his chest. I fear I might have to restart but I'm not sure if I'm just missing a good strategy instead.
if one is in your way just give up all hope of going past it without conflict, 'cause on top of sneaking not working due to their proxy aggro using sound to distract them doesn't work either; i tossed a flashbang down a hallway to try lure one away from an area i needed to go through (after finding out the hard way that sneaking past is impossible) and the fucker just went straight for me instead of going to the source of the noise.
I just let the licker grab me and put a fucking grenade in it's mouth which exploded right as mr x walked past it.
weird, felt like no matter how many bullets I put into them, they just kept on getting back up
Quite possible to sneak past lickers with just a keyboard and mouse, when you're walking they usually do some like 2-3 sec animation of turning towards you and looking in your general direction before actually starting to crawl towards you. As long as you don't pump into them they won't immediately jump at you. I managed to get through many lickers who planted their rear ends dead center of the hallway that connects the officers office, the keypad locker room and the leading hallway to the photo developing room. Even easier to sneak past the ones attached to the walls and ceiling, you just walk right through. This is all on normal mode, don't know if their behaviors change on hardcore.
I just beat Leon A on standard and ended the game with 135 pistol bullets and 17 magnum bullets. this is a resident evil game alright
Best bet is to learn how to dodge his attacks. I got hit twice during that fight, but I'm sure the fight can be done without taking damage. I think the flamethrower will stun him for a long time on his third phase so you can empty as much ammo on him as possible. Its a tough fight, but I think you can do it.
Quick question: I see a bunch of locked lockers around the station, do they give you hints to how to unlock them in the game, or you have to brute force your way?
You'll find hints
Speaking of those, I found the hints for Leon's desk and the photo for the one third floor locker when I returned to the police station to get the chief's card but now I'm about to leave again and there's still a bunch of those locks left, do you return yet again?
A scenario question do you just never get the heart key in A scenario? I can't remember if it was that way in the original game or not
I keep trying to dodge but it has too much reach and Leon is too slow
Cool. Just a hour in and I really appreciate the "quality of life" things they have done for this game, like telling you the maps about where's the unsolved puzzles are and items that you skimmed past and didn't pick up. It's perfect stuff for those casual that like horror games but aren't hard core.
Alright, Leon's scenario is done. What a fucking game. Throroughly impressed. Managed to get a B rank, way better than I had expected. So what exactly changes if I do second story instead of a normal playthrough with the other character? I think I read in this thread that the tutorial section at the gas station gets pretty much skipped, but other than that?
Lmao I ran into Mr. X and immediately noped the fuck out. Haven't opened the game since. Honestly the Bakers chasing me in RE7 was scary, this fucker is that but turned up to 11.
Flamethrower stunlocks and damages the shit out of him but the killing blow still needs to be a shot to the chest when I did it
I burned the fuck out of him and his death cutscene started
How much ammo did it take roughly? I only had about 200 and saved it for the final phase I guess I didn't have enough for a kill.
I think I shot him a few times with the regular handgun and then proceeded to use the 200 you find in the arena Also, holy fuck Mr X suddenly appearing when you pass the STARS office in Claire's 2nd story scared the shit out of me
That's nothing! Running into the both of them side by side while you're cornered xD.
Mr X was alright until you realise he has so many areas he can't access so the only chance he has of being a threat is if you dont clear the licker hallways
I literally just got to him. I had to stop playing. Horror games have been trying to do the psychological and existential horror so much recently, I forgot the fear of "Oh shit this giant man wants to fucking murder me."
Mr X physically makes me terrified. Being chased is probably the most primal of my fears. I just got to him and I'm just staring at the door that I know he's behind.
