Sometimes I wonder, after equipping it, is Gordon wearing the HEV helmet throughout the game? Everything leads me to believe he isn't; the hero never wears a helmet, all of the art and in game models of Gordon depict him without it, and it's never clearly present in the storage units. If I recall, in Opposing Force he flat out enters Xen without, which I guess we'll just have to chalk up to Gman life sustaining fuckery. The only thing that makes me wonder is the AI voice, which seems to sound very close, as if in the ear.
I'm probably alone in this, but I'd prefer a helmeted Gordon, but I will admit I do have a bit of an appreciation for protective headgear in general. It'd be cool if a mod (MMOD anyone?) offered an optional immersive visor of sorts, think like the helmet in Bioshock 2. I dunno', I just think it would make Gordon feel a bit more powerful, a bit more cozy and protected in his plot armor. That, and it simply makes sense; a biosuit isn't really any good without a helmet/mask, things that can hurt your head and face are flying everywhere, and there is a fairly common enemy whose entire MO is latching onto your head.
It's from private individuals, bought at Seattle's garage flea markets. They once leaked their libraries jointly by former Infinity Ward employees in 2009. Also sold sets of Microsoft hardware devkit over which worked Valve and Gearbox. That there was is unknown.
Even Valve themselves admitted Gordon's vulnerability due to the fact that he doesn't wear helmet, I'm sure everyone remembers this artwork in particular:

he's speaking non-sense, he can't even get the teams correct that worked on the XBox version of CSCZ.
I meant the dynamic light around an alien slave when they charge up an attack. At times it simply won't light up. Perhaps the game checks if there are too many slaves in an area and temporarily deactivates it.
The Alien Slave dlight is a temporary entity sent to all clients that are in the PVS of the Slave, specifically the Slave's origin + the forward angle normal * 2. Since the Alien Slave origin is at its feet it's possible that the PVS check puts it in the ground, thus preventing it from being seen.
On another note, does anyone know if The Specialists source code was actually lost? This repository seems to indicate that: https://github.com/BSVino/tspp
I'm wondering if the creators are OK with maybe recreating the code, if people are interested.
My headcanon is still that Gordon wears a helmet despite all evidence to the contrary. I just can't get over the fact that a single headshot would be all it needs to stop him.
enemies tank a single headshot just fine. Why would it be any different for the player?
actually my memory is failing me, I can't remember if the player has a headshot modifier in stock HL2. Sure do in HL1 though.
But...
All human enemies wear some manner of full-face mask?
fair enough for combines. It's a reasonable excuse. Though rebels, barney, alyx and the beret/baklava grunts in HL1 have no problem with it.
So I just saw this video about how disaster/invasion movies changed because of 9/11:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KioF1sTQFtE&t=0s
And it kind of makes me wonder:
if Half-Life 1 was released 3 years before 9/11 and Half-Life 2 three years after, to what extent has it influenced the development of the latter game from a story/narrative perspective? I've never actually seen anyone bring it up.
Combine has some aspects of pre-9/11 invasion movie enemy (being incomprehensible, and ultimately kind of "defeated" by a much weaker enemy due to them being the cool good guys), but also some aspects of post-9/11 invaders (having a human character as a "leader" with clear motivations, strong undertones of the fight being up to factors outside of the humanity's control, the fact that the aliens are never really gotten back at in a satisfying way).
It makes me wonder how much of the plot was conceived before the September 11th attacks. Do we have any leak media that is known predate 9/11? It would be an interesting angle to investigate.
I remember that Q&A with Laidlaw where people brought up how Gordon has a HUD if he's not wearing the helmet in any artwork or depiction, and his response was along the lines of, "Whoa, we kinda never really thought about it! I guess you could say the HEV Suit's projecting his HUD onto those phat specs."
Black Mesa made Google Glass before it was cool.
What about the Xbox port of HL2 and then the 360 versions of Source games? I’m fairly certain those were all done in house.
Well there used to be a Skyscraper chapter in development before 9/11, featuring an American-style skyscraper where Gordon and Alyx were to have a crash landing on a C-130 plane upon returning to City 17. It was supposedly dropped in October 2001 and subsequently they did a second take on the chapter with a stalinist building known as Palace with a helicopter crash instead, but it too didn't make the cut. The change likely happened because of City 17 becoming a more overtly European location, but 9/11 could've had an influence as well.
a lot of the missions are super fun
ritual's only flaw was their cringy way to portray females in their games but it was the standards from 20 years ago so whatever.
EA worked on those ports, at least OG XBox and Orange Box PS3. L4D1 was ported by another team and not Valve.
I still disappointed that Ritual dropped all new stuff from multiplayer part of CZ, except bots.
Ritual didn't work on the final CSCZ, it was TRS. Ritual's CSCZ was canceled when it was finished, the remains of their CSCZ is Deleted Scenes.
I would've loved to have the new weapons in regular multiplayer. Even if the M60 is basically an M249 clone it does add some variety.
It was Ritual I believe - some of the devs talked about it (years ago) at http://www.ritualistic.com/forums/index.php
Valve did the Orangebox port (And at least started the L4D one) for Xbox 360 if their GDC 2008 publication is to be believed:

Going into the Citadel Core without a helmet = Gordon dies of Ultra Cancer before he reaches the razor train.
Gordon was shot in the head so many times in HL1 that he built up an immunity.
Is his ponytail canon? Maybe that has something to do with it
the ponytail is where the brain resides which is why gordon cannot be killed by headshots because he doesnt have his ponytail in hl2
that'd explain the braindead combat
