There is a version that runs on Xash3D that doesn't require Half-Life.
It even had a port to the Dreamcast because of the leaked unfinished Half-Life port.
Which version you played? It was updated in 2016. I switched to it because in goldsource mod i got stuck multiple times in vehicles.
I think what will always remain my favorite part of Goldsrc games is what me and my friends call "Goldsrc proportions" I'll let my screenshots demonstrate what I mean

While Vampire Slayer is the least offensive here, what is offensive is the wallpaper that looks like a cheap suit from the 70's lmao. I will always love how no other engine has mastered the art of making you explore the land of the giants.
That reminds me of the old GI Joe maps:

The M40 was the service gas mask at the time and is the one closest, at least to my knowledge, to what's presented on the OpFor cover.
The weirdest part of Gldsource and Source doors is that if you make them the correct sizes, they look really really weird and off-putting. It's like the engine is designed to only have massive doors
TIL Blueshift meant something other than the scientific term (decrease in electromagnetic wave), since all the other games use scientific terms as game titles. Kinda curious what a Redshift game would have been like.
TBH having small doors is a bit of a pain gameplay-wise.
Even "regular" size doors are difficult:

are you lads just gonna recommend mods without saying Half-Quake? (<
Does it count if it's a new mod that isn't out yet?
I came about too late to experience most HL1 mods in their hayday, with the exception of Echos because that came out recently. But this what I'm looking forward to right now, combining a childhood hero with one of my favourite games? Hell yeah.
I haven't played Halfquake, but man the soundtrack is something else.

I used to replay it regularly.
Then one time I got sick of the edginess. Must be the voice acting.
Does anyone know why that is? It's not just Goldsrc/Source too, I've made correctly proportioned doors in other FPS like Serious Sam and they look too small and weird up close even though it's normal sized in real life. Oddly enough I don't think AAA games have this issue.
You're used to seeing doors being bigger with existing textures, if you include custom textures and make sure everythings to proper irl proportions it'll probably feel less weird.
I dunno, when I (try to) make atmospheric maps, I always use the custom door models with the different sizes
Thing is, when using smaller doors, you have to make everything a bit smaller to fit
I mean, the player and environment scale is different too
Source is just fucky with dimensions, either you scale the player but props become too small or you scale down the entire world, but you'll have to eyeball it
Cause it's an engine made for medium/fast-paced shooters, so everything has to be large to accommodate the gameplay
I think the greatest thing about Sweet Half-Life that makes it a classic is that you get the minigun, and get to fight the minigun grunt, get like 2 other new weapons, literal flying saucers and buff ayys, 80's movie references, and Route B and it's ending spoilers: You get to stop the gray alien invasion and Shephard gets rescued by anime aside from Peaces Like Us, and Mistake of Pythagoras, and thats because they're made by the same dude iirc, no other mod has the same feeling.
Does anyone know if the plasmagun or P904 weapons in Sweet Half-Life are based on any Half-Life alpha material?
The "Half-Life Alpha in GoldSrc" mod include a plasma gun that works just like the SHL one. (It's only available via a secret easter egg area.)
There's also a P904 weapon, except it's been made to look like an M16.
Makes me wonder if the mod author just really loved Sweet Half-Life and decided to imitate some its features, or whether SHL actually based those features on scrapped weapons from the alpha. (Such as as the minigun.)
SHL had a plasma gun?
unless you mean the ugly alien thing that spams tickly bubbles
Yes, that.
The Half-Life Alpha in GoldSrc mod has a version of that, with a fancy new model.

(And the mod comes with two optional alternative models for it, for those that feel the model is out place in an alpha-style mod - a modified gluon gun, or a Quake 2 hyperblaster.)

Dude, that video was made thanks to someone's post in this thread.
Half
Well I searched for video using the youtube link and it didn't come up. Not sure what you're expecting if it's rehosted somewhere else.
If you posted it in both this thread and LMAO Pics, I kinda expected you to have read both.
You know every few years or so and just a few minutes ago I just remembered this vague memory of me playing a half-life 1 mod in won half-life, and for some reason I associate it with Action Half-Life but searching around doesnt prove anything of the sort existed, and I'd start the singleplayer campaign, and I would spawn either outside the level where the intro tram stops, or in a vented area I can't remember how it started, and I would move through this vent-like area, and I would be above the airlock before you enter c1a0, and I think I either broke through the grates or one of them was already open, and I could never get past the first level because after that a loading screen happens and the mod always crashed. I have no idea if it was some fever dream, or if I installed some vague mod that didnt work properly and hasn't seen the day of light since, so I gotta ask if what I just said as vague and unhelpful it might be, if anything pops up in anyones head as to what kind of mod I must've installed all those years ago.
I think that's Azure Sheep.
likely this.
The only other mod that's around c1a0 is grunts2.bsp in svencoop
Was playing it today, no dice, you don't drop into the airlock that leads into the c1a0 lobby.
