She lied to and manipulated a lot of people, myself included. Which was sad because I stuck up for her the longest. Also there was a larger leak that caused valve to rewrite their engine licensing policy, which fucked over a fair few people who didnt even know the cut content community existed or who were involved at all. Among other drama she was center in. There's so much drama in the vcc, not just with pelpix, and Im so so sick of it. This is the last I wanna talk about any of this tbh.
As i heard, some time after that drama, Valve started licensing new up to date forks of Source. Operation Black Mesa/Guard Duty use it. We haven´t shared much about the games as we were swamped porting both projects to a new branch of Source engine. The Counter Strike: GlobalOffensive (CS:GO) branch to be exact. Prospekt dev stated that he got updated Source. And i heard somewhere that it was CS:GO Source branch or has similar features. I was considering switching over the game to UE4. However after discussion with Valve they have provided me with a more up to date version of the engine.
Did MMod kick up the difficulty insanely or is it something else? Tested under optimal conditions (single target, pre-fire where he'll be, he doesn't move, 10-15 meter range) in the time it takes for the SMG to kill a standard Combine Soldier, he's able to drop my health from 100 / 45 to 80. Under not ideal conditions, anything less than the AR2 is practically unusable. This is on Hard Mode by the way, since I had started the mod on Normal but upped the difficulty because I was untouchable and killing Metrocops in .5 seconds without taking any damage was getting boring, but there seems to be no middle ground between being unstoppable or fighting the unstoppable.
The mod doesn't exactly pack its own skill settings besides for the new additions if I remember right, so that might be a problem on your end more than anything. Though every soldier being able to SMG grenade you is insanely obnoxious.
Theres no wind up or audio queue like the Elite's AR2 alt fire, he could've at least made them scream something out and do the recoil animations elite do when they pop the alt fire, it feels like they just run and alt fire the smg without stopping or anything else that says "im using the grenade launcher"
When i was doing SMOD modding, I gave Combine Elites various weapons that had secondary fires (grenades, rockets etc). So I replaced the Elite's AR2 alt fire charge-up sound with a warning BEEPBEEPBEEP noise that indicated "enemies are about to launch something at you". Which meant the same animation and sound effect worked fine whether they were armed with AR2 and launching energy balls at you, or an SMG launching grenades.
It's bizarre when you consider the insane library of voicelines that Cummy Soldiers have. They have more lines than HGrunts IIRC, and they use the same sentence structure method, just smoothed out to be LESS-RO-BOTIC-ASS-HOLE-FREEMAN.

They're less robotic because it's a more polished and less expansive version of what ARMA has. They have a lot of sentences that are meant to be filled it, for example: Overwatch, we have free parasitics >noun >number. Which will come across as Overwatch, we have free parasitics, Sector-Seven. It's intentionally structured so that the disjointed nature of drop-in words and numbers doesn't come across as odd because of the sentence structure. If the word were to be dropped in the middle of the sentence or the sentence made entirely of individual words, then it's obvious. But they hid it pretty well in HL2 by having these drop in words at the end of a prerecorded sentence as descriptions, where it could be passed off as emphasis instead.

Just a joke because typing "combine" a million times a year has gotten legitimately tiring for me. CCA, Combine, UU, MPF, CP's, OTA, COTA, god... it is honestly tiring. Which reminds me I wanted to talk about how much of HL2's often-believed "canon" is entirely invented by the GMod Hl2RP community, though I'm legit too lethargic to make a big post about it now, so imagine I brought up the subject. Jesus Christ, Denton.
You know you can just drop the old sound in your custom folder. I feel like I may have actually told you this before a long time ago Anyway I like the new sound, it's more ~dramatic~ and doesn't remind me of mall cops (I swear their radios literally make the same sound).
Some guy said it's a shame that Vorts are now our friends, because they were a good enemy. This made me think, what if we had combine vortigaunt soldiers in HL2 working in teams with the human soldiers? That would be neat, and we still could have had them as friends, too.

We've got a shocking revelation here, people! Gabe Newell has just delivered (20 years ago) a lore bombshell that undermines everything we thought we understood about the myths and mythos of Half-Life's canon! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/109778/28598d5f-612a-420d-91ab-23f05ea51652/gabeadrian.webm So Adrian Shephard was "protecting" Gordon throughout Opposing Force. But from what clear and imminent danger could Shephard have been protecting Gordon from all that time? Or, more accurately, from who...
Is that Ronald Reagan ?
Ronald Reagan? The actor?
The 1187 mod tests the waters with this. Well, at least I guess it tests it out, because we're never explicitly told what these guys are when they appear at the end of the mod. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107118/ce6006a7-07f6-49df-9a61-dea69d958be6/image.png They are rocking some techy, blue Combine aesthetic, but that's about it. I did some tampering with the textures to try out some different takes on the coloring. Lowering the phong and toning down some/most of the blueness resulted in this (or I tried the leftover blue skin texture VTF file, can't remember); https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107118/a00ec7ee-915b-43f1-a003-887c78d3f373/image.png But I also tried out a more pale-green version, as per an idea from a friend of mine. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107118/763fb3a9-92ab-4b55-af83-689dde3fe3ad/image.png Also with a more blue-ish armor to fit the Combinesthetics https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107118/8d878041-9adf-4602-96cc-f4357c12fed6/image.png However, the way Combine treats the creatures under its ownership are mostly either focused on stripping them to bare essentials for permanent penal labor - aka Stalkers, or turning them into Synths - which the Overwatch Soldiers are being worked towards AFAIK; they're still mostly-human due to the infantile stage of turning humans into Synths). I think it's safe to guess Alien Grunts were the transhuman program for Vorts while they were under Combine's rule on their homeworld; Vorts can only utilize the Vortessence properly because of reaching a spiritual enlightenment, so the lobotomization that is Synth program reduces them to their second-best trait; incredible strength, further amplified as witnessed from Grunts. We only ever really see one type of high-ranking member species, and that's the Advisors; bloated, cybernetics-needing slugs that have immense telekinetic prowess. But sure, there could be Vorts in high places that could look like what's presented above. However, that friend of mine also made a pretty unique spin on the idea of a Combine Vort - to be more specific, the Synth kind. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107118/b59aa094-7160-48bb-b29e-224afd8f9db6/image.png In essence, these are Synths that are useful as walking batteries, because their connection to Vortessence allows them to become an incredibly convenient energy source. Beta HL2 did tap into this concept with the Combine-enslaved Vorts being siphoned of their energy to power other stuff, but not much beyond that.
If HDTF tied into this in a odd lopsided way then it would have actually been kinda neat. Woulden't have saved its gameplay, but it would have had a slot in fanon lore rather then something we wish we could forget
20 years in the making. Deepest lore.
Hello, everyone. I was going to type a long post about how it's fancy and hip to hate on Half-life series and Valve in general nowadays just because so many people liked it/them; however, it most likely wouldn't be interesting to anyone. There isn't many places on the internet today where you can have a discourse about Half-life with other genuine fans. Nonetheless, I'd like to get directly to the point I wanted to tell and the sole reason I even created an account on this forum. There's a guy on EasyAllies (youtube game bloggers/journalists. Disregard me on this.) who's an avid fan of The Legend of Zelda series and Nintendo in general. Once he saw one of the Horizon Zero Dawn trailers, he said in a really defeating manner something like: "Zelda will never look this good..." A similar thing occurs to me but with Half-Life and Death Stranding. I frequently rewatch DS trailers and dream that one day a new Half-Life game will resemble something like this. It seems to me (and perhaps to me alone), that Death Stranding has some similar traits with Half-Life: elements of cosmic horror (as opposed to those who G-Man represents), echoes of sci-fi genre and some other details. Imagine if Death Stranding's main character was someone from Half-Life who wasn't just a courier, but a theoretical physicist who was seeking for a way for Earth/Humanity to acquire the Type I or Type II civilization status on the Kardashev scale. So here I am, guys. Tell me, am the only one?
I honestly really wish I could understand and empathize with this feeling (similar things occur to me with Fallout and SiN instead) since my heart died when it came to anything but the pre-existing HL games long ago.
I can still relate a bit, every now and then I think how good a modern Half-Life would look, how much prettier everything would be. But I also worry a bit that they might redesign things for no reason since art teams can't help themselves from redesigning things for no reason. The Combine aesthetic is fantastic and I'd be worried about them turning the troops into BF4 soldiers and changing the artstyle to be more rounded and polished.
It bugs the fuck out of me when something from a game is dramatically redesigned in it's sequel, but the gameworld acts like it's always looked that way.

More like a mixture of both.

I've always enjoyed the main menu track. It makes me think of the evolution of the music style from HL1-HL2, and HL2 to the episodes, with this feeling like the next step, for a new game.
