trase mentioned that PC's are growing easier to set up, but have you considered that consoles are growing less mobile, as well as less easy to use? That's my main concern. Between how console HDD's utterly fail to support even a handful of games, and how games are so unstable crashes aren't unusual to see on consoles, the outright, objective benefits of the console are going away, whereas the benefits of streaming devices are coming in. None of this is my opinion, I like myself a good console - but from looking at the industry, it's not hard to see things are swaying in terms of consoles.
Honestly if we've learned anything from Valve since HL2 it's that if they say they're going to do it, they probably won't in your lifetime. If they're going to, they'll do it right off the bat.
The games industry isn't going to collapse, what with it being so incredibly diverse. But I wouldn't be surprised if the AAA market greeds itself into the gutter with their aggressive monetization and other bullshit, and we see a lot of big publishers go down.
The game industry doesn't need to collapse, the big AAA companies do. And we need more smaller companies.
A few months ago i managed to save this film that was submitted to machinima interactive film festival in 2012. It was deleted even before machinima shut down. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/237709/b472248e-376f-4688-bad9-e67d1fff42be/Half-Life_Chain_Reaction_-_Part_1_Machinima_Interactive_Film_Festival.mp4
Yoo I wanna play HL2 again with some silly ridiculous fun mod. There was this S-mod adding tons of fun weapons, right? Do you guys have any recommendations of that sort?
I'm hoping shareholders and AAA comapnies soon learn the way they're running their business is completely unsustainable.
When has something being unsustainable stopped greed?
When it stops them making money.
I installed Half-Payne and replaced some of the Half-Life music with the ones from the Max Payne series, that'd be in the half-payne/media folder. The vanilla music files in valve/media is left untouched. Then I installed Sweet Half-Life out of nostalgia and for whatever reason it's playing the music from the Half-Payne mod folder instead of the normal Half-Life music... I know I can simply fix this by removing the music files from the Half-Payne folder, but it was just kinda weird.
Definitely a variation of smod, there are like 4 different versions I think, smod 40aq, smod redux, smod tactical, smod outbreak This is the homepage for all smod related shit: BSNOOCH.COM
Oh wow, that's a bit overwhelming. Is there a handy chart for which does what or something?

the concept art for half-life 2 and early screen shots make me think that valve really missed the original atmosphere and aesthetic they were going for in the final game. its still a fantastic game, but it seemed closer to the feeling of dread that half-life 1 achieved. also sad to see that xen in the first game was intended to be so much more.
I always see HL and HL2 as two seperate continuities (as in, HL ends as that game ends and HL2 follows from a HL-like incident but not the actual game if that makes any sense).

Same, i think it's because the games have a radically different feel.
Yea, I totally agree. Would have been neat if they made a whole game centered around the Xen part. Like if HL1 was a two-parter, with Xen being most of the second game, culminating in Nihilanth's destruction. I wonder how reception would have turned out for Valve if they did something like that. It would have given them more time to create what they fully wanted and the series would have only been extended a bit more than it is now. But I guess we already kinda know how they handle cliff-hangers...
Oh man, these videos are golden. Reminds me of the one I made when ValveArchive got temporarily told off by Valve. Wish people would make more of these "add HL sounds to videos" kind of videos. https://vimeo.com/210781409
I can't find a gif of the enter/exit displacement fields anywhere on the internet.
The best thing about Xen is that, IIRC they basically created all of it in about a month, with the early segments of the game being developed for about a year.
Is this it? I've never played Opposing Force so I had to watch a video to find out what it was. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/239221/6b59303c-f691-4ef1-8623-16733929d3c3/enter.gif
Does anybody have an archive of the files that were on the HIT Forums? I'm asking because I want to download Romka's Airboat but I can't find it, not even through the WayBack Machine.
Can you find it here: Recovered HIT Forum Stuff

What do you guys think of this? We did it because we thought it was cute and we were excited, but there's been a few complaints. Do you guys like it?
