In opposing force at the part where you have to active the SW garbage compactor, if you stand a little in front of the doorway inside the room you push the button in while the compactor is running, it will kill you for no apparent reason.
Also I mentioned it many threads ago but since odd behavior has come up, in the coastal levels when you eventual come to a parked apc, you can abandon the buggy and punt the apc along instead. When you get to lighthouse point you can even put it in the garage to continue the sequence.
the reason is the pitdrone corpses. Don't touch them or gib them.
Brushes that operate nearby corpses somehow love to inflict damage to anything that's in contact with it. Another good sample of this is the vent fan at the start of Office Complex with the dead barney and 2 crabs.
I don't recall for certain this happened pre-steam but I'll go with it didnt.
I can't replicate this when using an SDK built game. Can you give steps to reproduce?
I'm not really good at uploading videos so i'll just use these two screenshots

just touch barney
MMod adds a phong shader to it, last I remember, but there are a few skins for some HD flavor.
HEV Hands Remastered | Half
Old HEV
H.E.V Mark V | Half
A big problem with the hands if I remember right was that their UV mapping was absolutely atrocious, making it difficult to even retexture the glove parts properly. There's also the fact that all the vanilla animations had to make sure to not expose the sides of the guns lacking modeling, and the wrist part of the suit sleeves doesn't have texturing or modeling either. It's kind of a shitty thing to deal with.
The engine thinks you're blocking the entity. This kind of thing happens with func_tracktrain when players stand next to each-other while blocking it, i suppose the same happens here because the entity is trying to push the corpse and you're blocking it. It shouldn't be trying to push the corpse though, since it shouldn't have a hull size and isn't supposed to be touching the fan.
I can't be sure without being able to check the engine physics code. I can try this out in SharpLife once that's all working though.
We need more up to date Hammer tutorials, I wanted to make a HL2 mounted machine gun. I could not find a video on how to do that. I ended up following a partial tutorial on gamebanana, but it wasn't complete, so I skimmed the rest from a video that some nice Russian lady uploaded on Youtube. Couldn't understand a thing she was saying, but she emphasized where each entity should point with her mouse, so I could understand what to do even if I couldn't understand her.
Decompile the EP2 map where it is ( I think it was ep2_outland_08 ) and copy the entire setup. All, not only the crutial entities but the helpers and the models. The Autogun is "special" and tends to give problems both for the AI and the player if isn't set up 100% like Valve did.
Or better yet, use the actual VMF!

Wait, the archive is not only again online but also is still hosting the leaked content? I thought Valve striked them down and threated them with a DMCA unless they removed the leaks.
I'll say valve is more "special" for not having the duck view exploit fixed in orangebox and it's the most ridiculous when used against the Autogun.

also when OC?
The funny thing about the autogun is that I was able to get a Civil Protection officer to control it when set up like an MG, but I cannot get it to listen to the npc_enemyfinder_combinecannon that's supposed to control it normally. Looking at how Valve did it is probably my best bet at figuring the thing out.
It never went really went offline for long and instead of complying with the cease and desist they just tossed the leaks into an other folder.
The progress on it is starting to winding down since I have to study and work hard for the final exam and the project plus the German B2 level exam ( all of them are coming on the next six months so I can't dedicate the same time to work on the mod as before ) and Lockzag is also working less since he started studying at the university. Alice is still K.O. for depression and Kittopia must be super busy in real life because he has been already a month offline, so that means the sole coder on "standby" is Neico, but he can't work on the mod always and he's only and only focused on the internals ( especially the new mount system that is fully dynamic so almost anything can be mounted as long as is compatible, rather than define a path for a certain mod/game ).
Code wise is going "ok" but for sure it wouldn't hurt have one or two more mappers that could make my ToDo list smaller.
Pray that we are out for this year and don't die instead.
What? only that? That worked?
They know that if Valve hears again about them hosting the leaks, they aren't going to be diplomatic right?
I don't think they (Jackathan/Valve Archive) care. If they cared in the first place they would of complied instantly instead of off loading the troubled files into another folder.
If they insist so much on hosting the leaks they should do it on another unrelated place ( or just let the russian division of the community to take care of them like they always did ). Their recopilation of interviews, arts and others are precious, and I doubt that if they go down, those can be again recovered.
You can download the whole thing from them, so I have a copy of that, and I can mirror it (or set up a torrent a lá HL Survivor and L4DZeroDev), not a huge concern at this point.
Makes you think what'll happen to archives like these if there's no place like Facepunch.
Sure, there are other big Valve communities (the russian beta people come to mind), but I'm fairly sure Facepunch is the main one now
Probably Discord, maybe Reddit.
But that's how things go, communities have a lifespan, forums cost money to run, and usually don't make money, so you either rely on donations, advertisement, or good will from the person running them, all of which aren't endless.
I mean, some of their archives are just forks of other people's archives and are typically out of date. What comes to mind is the HL beta photo archive which is a very old fork of my HL beta photo archive (if you dig hard enough, you can find my credit in the archive, but Jackathan tried his hardest to bury that file) and the TRS L4D media archive which is an outdated fork of a friend's archive that someone else took credit for (which Jackathan is aware of but never actually corrected said credit.)
There is a small active community on reddit, but it's mostly memes, because Reddit's format precludes any long form or long term discussion. And without long term discussion what are you left with? Pretty much posting memes.
That's how it goes.
I'm not satisfied with our options for places to flee when (if?) FP is shut down, including notpunch. I've been considering launching a replacement based off of Discourse, but I need to get the ducks in a row for that, and get cracking on ratings and a stylesheet for it.
It'll probably end up not working out, but it doesn't hurt to try.
Hezzy and Inacio have been considering making their own continuation forum if Garry kills this one. But everything on this forum would still be lost, all posts and accounts, since it's illegal for Garry to hand over that kind of data. I really just hope he keeps the forum up.
As far as Half-Life goes TWHL is still going strong: https://twhl.info
Yeah, "notpunch" I'm not a fan of custom forum solutions, so I'm not particularly interested in that, I'd rather a highly customized Discourse or NodeBB.
As for newpunch data, that should be archived, not dredged into a new forum (aside from gold status), and Sam already has that handled.
Mmod uses the default arm texture, so any already existing HD re-texture of it will look nice.
Question for you guys and gals: If there was a new Half-Life game, could it keep the oldschool "carry lots of weapons" thing and no iron sights? I'm not attached to that myself and would be okay with having to drop weapons and using iron sights. Not sure if it would go down well with the community though.
This is the worst sentence I've ever read
