How my day went: *PC version finally gets a patch weeks later* *Kharacter Tower requirements get reduced* *goes to try to finish Shao Kahn's lvl 4 tower* *does 3-4 Krushing Blows in a match* *checks Tower. only 1 counted because Krushing Blows are still not fixed and only uppercuts count* *goes into the Krypt, burns koins. Duplicate gear bug still exists* *goes to play another game*
I've got a question for people in this thread, did you get this game for the singleplayer stuff? odd to see people dropping the game just because the singleplayer stuff is bunk.
I barely touched online versus yet (still practicing) and I'm still thoroughly enjoying it in singleplayer. Like yeah the Towers of Time was awful during the first week but right now it's at least in a more comfortable position. I always appreciated the singleplayer suite the MK games offered, which isn't all too common nowadays since most tend to focus on the competitive online experience, with the only other fighting game I can think of right now that offers an extensive singleplayer suite is Soul Calibur VI.
I just personally don't feel compelled to play ranked or anything, not only does it require I get the console's online service, plug in an ethernet, but ontop all of that it can be a bit stressful and becoming super competent takes such a huge timesink where you can easily learn wrong, and I know I'm never ever going tournament pro. But I do like collecting and customizing and just beating down on AIs. It's what I've done in basically every MK, even predating online services. Playing towers in each MK has never gotten old.
Netherrealm fighting games are some of the best ones for if you're not really into playing fighting games online honestly.
Learning the game doesn't take all that long, this isn't tekken. move lists are small and most characters only have a few good moves/strings out of them.
genre in general
NRS games are usually dead within 6 months because of imbalance and jank and greed, and this one looks to be no different. X sold 12m million copies and there sure as hell weren't 12 million people playing in MP ever.
The only reason Tekken is hard to understand for many is because they refuse to put a proper tutorial or give important things like framedata for those who want to know more. Apparently is because is more "fun" to discover thing by yourself. I have trouble trying online in games, but Tekken is not one since I have to worry more about position than me messing up my inputs when doing a combo. Then again Tekken 7 could use a proper expand in singleplayer content.
If you're wondering, yes, I'm one of those weird people who mostly play fighting games for myself, so the single player stuff being consistently botched is a problem
In a strange way, fighting games are the last bastion of the old worlds version of games. They never had feature creep or had to modernize to be relevant. The last few MK games I got for the story but even with towers the feature set is amazingly slim. Shooters, racing games, RPGs all have Progress unlocks, leveling, cosmetics. These concepts have come to Fighting games last. Honestly Id rather mortal kombat become a TPA game at this point because it seems like the community around them lasts about 3-6 months before its all together dead.

Man that "win with fatal blows and enemy fatal blows are insta kills and activate after three hits" gauntlet bit is the most unfun cancerous thing I have ever had the displeasure of playing.
Also, congratulations to 16bit (of Kombat Kasts/senior QA analyst fame, the blonde with the lore minute) who has officially come out as trans. https://mobile.twitter.com/Osu16Bit/status/1128782119235399682
I'm glad it's at least been addressed. Guess I just have to further bide time for whenever the next patch is (and staple up to 3 weeks onto that because yay PC version...)
https://www.thegamer.com/evil-dead-new-game-without-ash an Evil dead game is coming without “original ash” meaning there’s a distinct possibility that he’s actually retired from the character and might not know everything about what Ash appears in
https://twitter.com/noobde/status/1132849057444048898 interesting that he just says DLC, and not Kombat Pack 1. Wonder if they're just gonna go 'fuck it' and announce everyone, since, ya know, it kinda all leaked already lol. Also pretty weird doing this a week before E3. I thought for sure they were saving it for that, but uh ok.
For a company that's been in the game for as long as Nether-Realm there's really no excuse for how bogged down everything is by the currency system, Warner is probably behind most of the practices. But that nobody fought to minimize the damage is incredibly disturbing to me with their previous track record. Just feels like the complete opposite mentality of what this company used to stand for. I haven't touched the game since release and while i had fun with it for that period of time, coming back to it recently just put me off from ever opening it again. Free currency or adjustments to the difficulty just won't fix it for me personally, the entire thing is broken at it's core being based on a system that's dragging all the focus away from the actual fighting. As somebody who plays fighting games for the single-player and versus when friends are over there's really no engaging content after playing the story, i just miss challenge towers and unlocking content without it feeling like a chore. I've been along since the start growing up as a major fan of the series, but think this is actually going to be the last Mortal Kombat I'll ever get.
Nobody fought because the details were bullshit, had nothing to do with monetization, and what little was wrong was fixed that week. the guy who broke the (fake) news about it being that way had an agenda about NRS’ sexy outfits or some shit and disappeared quickly and hasn’t posted anything since.
A bit late but just remembered NRS actually made an official 60fps mode now for the whole game on PC without the need of the external hack. https://steamcommunity.com/games/976310/announcements/detail/1610512829579256017
Sometimes devs do that, I think it's to beat the rush and not get swamped by every other announcement. Maybe they'll start showing gameplay during E3.
Krypt dupes are finally patched
Now to wait for the PC and Switch to be updated too.
It's a bit confusing but actually that cooould be a good sign Initially he really did retire as Ash, but he sorted flipped-flopped on that later with that Dead by Daylight role, and earlier this month straight up said this https://www.inquisitr.com/interview/5431603/bruce-campbell-ripleys-believe-it-or-not-ash-williams-evil-dead/ KT: As they say. So, speaking of ‘Believe It or Not!,’ I still can’t believe you retired iconic character, Ash Williams. Are you sticking to that? No way I can talk you into reconsidering? BC: Yeah, I’m sticking to that; it gets easier every year. KT: [Laughs] Fair enough. BC: I’m still doing video games, I’m doing voices for Ash. I’m just not going to grovel in the blood anymore. KT: I think that’s fair. It’s not retiring the character, just a retirement plan. BC: I’m retiring from certain types of roles, ones that require looking at tennis balls on sticks. "I'm still doing video games" so if he wasn't referring to that evil dead game then I wonder what else he meant... but yea not retired from voice roles after all.
I'm glad they're fixing things like the dupe item glitch, but I'm still reading the Krushing Blows aside from default ones like the uppercut are still not counting for the character towers. Fucking hell NRS, really?
Ed's started teasing the DLC characters for the first reveal. Given we already know who they are, it's pretty easy to guess lol, but at least it confirms whos gonna be in the first pack (i guess?) https://twitter.com/noobde/status/1133747145096552454 Green Axe. Aka Nightwolf's weapon
oh fuck yeah nightwolf baby! loved him ever since I played deception
There was also this the other day https://twitter.com/noobde/status/1133555477277810688 fuck if i know what the text means, but if it's MK4 then that'd be Fujin
Don't trust Boon 100% on his word. He's trolled teased a lot in the past.
DLC are the letters capitalized, the remaining letters will be rilap, and the only words I can think of if that was an anagram are April and prial, which means a pair of royal cards. Maybe Nightwolf & Fujin are going to be released together?
