Dumb theory that is probably wrong time: Those color changes in that post are a hint. I think he could be another 4-in-1 character(Red=Kenshi(Since it's stated in the Krypt that he ate his soul), Purple=Rain, Green=Reptile, Grey=just him).
Red made me think of ermac before kenshi but hm.
It'd be weird if Shang Tsung wasn't morphing into his opponent, but if there was a way to be Reptile that'd be sweet

It'd actually be really cool if some of the appearances in the Krypt were building up to Shang Tsung considering he hosts it.

Oh wow, so he turns into all of the Ninjas in their Klassic outfit, and it also has a copy move that mimics your opponent's character for like 8 seconds it seems.

My guess is they were just starting on pack 2 when the build that got datamined got out(since IIRC it was an earlier build?) and didn't have all the characters listed yet.
Either that or like you said it's a smaller pass, or they were 3 thrown in to fuck with people(I kinda hope not I wanna play as Sheeva)

Man, I'm really glad they made this Mortal Kombat as fan service-y as possible. It was great seeing all the ninja's moves back, and having Shang Tsung transform is so iconic and logical for his character. Can't wait to see what they do with Nightwolf!
The Young Shang looks weird to me for some reason. I think it's the voice, which doesn't exactly match him too much but I guess that's Shang Tsung for you; not exactly a spring chicken.
