D'vorah's mk10 design was a nice middle-ground between making a character clearly designed more as a character than as... y'know, basically every MK girl before the game, but still kind of sexy in her own way. Not to say I hate the new design, but her old design where she looked somewhat human with a cool little bug hood worked. More animalistic and alien designs are good for characters like D'vorah, but I think it would've worked a lot more as her initial design. Like, it seems like they're really trying to ride a line between "terrifying inhuman monster woman" like the more classic claymation characters (Goro, Kintaro, the one minotaur dude, and Sheeva before they got 3d models, which looked really creepy and cool, and a few of the MK Armageddon characters), but still give her a humanistic design that doesn't really work, with a clearly human facial design, and a distinctly feminine human body shape. Why?
It's really hard for me to articulate, but it goes back to my original point - why the re-design? Why re-haul your entire cast every game at this point? Seems like a lot of effort over nothing, unless there were serious issues people had with their designs. The focus seems to be solely on cosmetics and customizations, so why not give the new design purely as a cosmetic option? Street Fighter had the right idea, just look at Ryu - the biggest design change he got (that wasn't reverted) was when he grew a beard and went topless. Chun-li's SF and Alpha outfits are both iconic in their own ways, but otherwise she's always been recognizable for her blue chinese-inspired outfit with yellow accents and brown tights. She didn't get a new official design every dang game that completely changed everything about her.
Remember that this is just one render and we've already seen how vastly different characters can look with the gear and shaders, I'm sure that not only Kabal's old mask is one of them, but Dvorah's hood as well.
Eh yeah I love Dvorah but that redesign doesn't do it for me. Here's hoping for a good costume.
I think it's interesting that this render looks kind of Cyrax inspired. I hope we'll see more of her variations soon
She looks like a Mata'Nui villain.

This transformation alone has me not worried much about default designs. There were even some Subzero customization promo shots that made him almost unrecognizable. The best part is since it's the gear system instead of just skins I think we can mix and match pieces for our perfect look
Shit wasn't expecting D'vorah to be playable. I just pray either Kotal or Erron get in. Those two were my favorite new characters.
Yeah, the dreadlocks especially make her look like bug Cyrax. Her new design will take some getting used to, but the shoulder pads literally being hornet nests is a neat touch.
What are the chances Kotal will return? He was a total badass.
Probably pretty high. I'd imagine he was pretty dang popular - he was an important character introduced into the lore, a leader of a new group of characters (almost all of which were popular, compared to the Protag children which were all pretty forgettable), and he had a great design that fit in perfectly with the more powerful characters in MK history, like Shao Kahn.
Plus I bet Kotal and Shao Khan would have some pretty interesting dialogue when fighting each other.
PLUS isn't MK11 being written by the guy that wrote the comics? I doubt he'd have spent so much time on Kotal's backstory not to give him a sizable part in the sequel game. I'd say he's almost a lock at this point.
I really like D'Vorah's new design, though it is a bit of a departure from the previous version so I can see why people have problems with it. The customization system should somewhat alleviate the issue, though.
I agree about the kids, aside Cassie. Cassie felt like a proper character and has a pretty cool personality.
takeda
bring back my homie Erron Black

nice upgrade from MKX's 14 stages.
Takeda is the most unique of the kids, Cassie is literally her parents Sonya mixed in Johnny, jacqui doesn’t have anything going for her character or moveset wise and she’s similar to Jax himself, Kung Jin is boring and forgettable as fuck and is just an archer.
Takeda has those cool whip arms and shit, no one else has them or really anything like that. Being Hanzo’s student and son of a widowered Kenshi gives him a pretty baller backstory.
No point in discussing Cassie though because she’s in. We just don’t know if she’s a premiere skin for her parents or actually using a slot.
My own MKX newcomer wishlist is:
Erron Black
Cassie Cage
Takeda
Dvorah
Ferra and ???
ALSO, there's gonna be another reveal of a female character next Thursday

I was just thinking, with how specials are so interchangeable with an equip system that it wouldn’t be surprising to me if the entire Cage family was a single slot with skins for the 3 with their unique specials being in the equipped moves.
itd also explain why we’ve seen both Cassie and Johnny’s model but only Sonya has been on the board or featured
It's been confirmed that the customization gives you a base skin (bunred/unburned Kabal for instance), and from there the gear lets you change things like his mask and his swords. Each character has 3 gear slots, I'm not sure what is changeable for each character, but I know for Scorpion its his mask, kunais, and swords.
