Looks like he's got fingers on two separate triggers. Wonder if he'll be similar to Moira then
He look pretty good.
More heroes more better
Overwatch adds Heroes at the blinding pace of a turtle animating a 3d model. There have been 8 heroes in the span of 3 years. If we're generous and counting the next Hero, that's 3 heroes a year, unless the dev team kicks into overdrive and releases another character before May. In a game that routinely has, what, 3 balance patches a year as well? When I played, from 2016 til early 2018, event updates never got balance changes. That's pretty pathetically slow. If they aren't going to do balance updates frequently enough for a game almost solely dedicated to its Esports scene at this point, the least they can do is add new heroes in a fairly timely manner.
Some people argue that brigitte resembling ash, and wrecking ball working partially like ruckus were already it, but the reality is that there is only so many way that you can design a character for a hero shooter/moba without some things looking similar, specially in overwatch where kits are supposed to be super simple and easy to use and understand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MciMuVUmrQM
I've watched that video and hesitated on posting it because it amounts to "Overwatch is garbage, Paladins is better but still garbage, Gigantic is great but dead", and I pretty much only post here to complain about the game and its shit devs who care more about marketing than gameplay anyway, so more cynicism wouldn't be very appreciated, I'd imagine. But at the same time... Doomfist and Wrecking Ball exist just fine. Hell, Wrecking Ball looks literally exactly like HK-206 from Gigantic, except with a hamster in his head, yet they play completely differently. I'm sure if they wanted to actually put some effort in they could actually come up with interesting character designs, especially since now Paladins and I guess Apex Legends are its only competition.
I probably wouldn't even notice with how little people play Mei, although she is the best off of the "niche" picks.
Hopefully the addition of Bapiste means the PTR will have a huge balance overhaul to kill GOATs because that's the biggest pressing issue currently plaguing Overwatch as we've hit easily the least diverse meta since the days when teams could have multiples of each hero.
Demo Medic
He looked really cool in the Talon skin in his trailer, that's something I'd want.
If this guy turns out to be Demoman but he shoots small healing kits instead of grenades I am going to play nothing else.
Considering we're coming up to the Archives event (the best one) if he was going to get a Talon skin it would probably be then, if it doesn't come on launch.
There is literally nothing wrong with re-using ability to make more characters for your game. Characters diversity allows two thing: First, you appeal to more player (who find out that their playstyle has been catered to and have their character of choice OR they have a character they can identify with and enjoy regardless of the kit) Second, you allow more esport characters variety and meta are harder to form (a meta in Overwatch is a set of character: A meta in League or DotA is a specific subset of character, as a potential new meta could rise up, players find out way to counter it and the meta changes. It is definitely a common phenomenon in DotA and less in League), and trust me, you would prefers GOATS if they rotated between the same 40 tank and support instead of rotating between the same 3 tank and 3 support as they would atleast be using different characters. Finally, I do believe that mirror match are a plague and that having more players would justify banning it. No respectable competitive game have mirror match: there is no skill and strategy to be had in using the exact same characters as your opponents. For me he look cool. I hope he is on the level of Ana - sombra - doomfist in terms of quality. That means, ability that synergyzes well with each other, versatile and capable of fitting many playstyle according to the players wish, and finally a well-furnished kit (Not a kit like winston who has only a leap and a shield, but something like sombra who has a proper right click, a passive, and two ability.)
Good job completely missing my point.
This wasn't supposed to be a rebuttals or to imply that I thought you actually didn't find it possible to have interesting character design: I have not misread and missed your point: I just wanted to expand on that and see if our opinion could match. On the other hand, I misunderstood what you said about the video, I just didn't find your simplification of it into a simple "Overwatch garbage paladins better but still garbage and Suck Gigantic Dick Gigantic good but dead" very nice. I don't think it amount to this in the end. He even took the time of making an extremely good quality spreadsheet where he proves that nothing is really unique in the grand scheme of thing, but they are good because of the way they're mixed together to make an unique characters in the end.
https://twitter.com/Stylosa/status/1100214839933390848 The backlash to this is absurd
It's... not? The two have nothing in similar outside of being black medics.
I think (read: wold hope) by "backlash to this", they mean backlash to the character being revealed, not the shitty hot take that makes literally no sense, and if anything, is slightly racist, because it outright states that the two characters look alike, when all that's similar about them from those pictures is that they A. aren't white and B. are medics.
I was expecting a comparison to Fortnite's character design and Bastiste, not Apex. I imagine his design was finalized months prior to Apex even being revealed.
That was very dumb of him to post it as it is not funny and they have literally no relations beyond being black, medic and having an haitian accent.. But the reaction to his post are incredible. The strawman people are willing to go to say he is racist, sometimes.
I could see comparisons to Demoman because of the grenade launcher, beard, and the scouter in place of the eyepatch, but comparing him to Lifeline is insane. They have different color palettes, clothing designs, and healing gimmicks. What a dumb tweet.
https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/heroes/baptiste/ oh no, AoE heal
There's no strawman. If you say two people that aren't white are similar purely because they aren't white, you're racist. Looks like his basic gun is just a regular hitscan gun with a 3-rod burst, and his projectiles are reserved solely for heals. Kind of disappointing, the best part about Pip in Paladins is lobbing your projectiles at enemies. He also has a boost jump which is only somewhat similar to Pip's bounce ability, so he seems to be evoking a similar playstyle of a hard to pin down healer that relies on well-placed shots to effectively contribute. The boost wall is interesting. Immortality field... not so much. He looks pretty cool and interesting outside of his "no die" area. Takes a bit of Pip and meshes it with the more boost/utility-focused Support gameplay of OW versus Paladins' more aggressive support gameplay. And before people butt in again, I'm comparing him to Pip favorably - a big part of Paladins being so fun is that their Supports are very well designed, and almost every single one is insanely fun to play, even if you're solo.
My god, he is overloaded as heck. Two healing ability (Right click and first competence), a game-changing ultimate in the forms of.. immortality in an AoE for some time, and finally a matrix that amplify the damage of his allies AND HAS TO BUFF THE HEALING EFFECT OF THE PROJECTILE THAT GOES THROUGHT IT? Why? And the cherry on top of the cake, he has mobility.
I can't really say I like his character design, it just seems really unfocused and the color picks are blergh, like people thought moira was bad. And his face seems, off? Like it looks more like an actual persons face and isn't really stylized like the other characters?
Overwatch PTR Patch Notes – February 26, 2019 Only GOAT characters touched were Ana and Moira. ... Moira now heals faster.
Grenade launcher that heals? That's literally Pip from Paladins.
Quick testrun in the PTR: He has two seperate ammo counts on his weapon. 45 round primary fire and 10 healing grenades Primary fires three bullets in burst mode and deals 25 damage per round point blank for 75 damage per burst. Healing grenade has the same radius as Ana's grenade and heals about 60 hp per grenade. Grenades cannot be used to heal himself. Regenerative burst has a 15 second cooldown and heals anyone in a 10 meter radius 150 HP over 5 seconds. To compare, Lucio with Amp it Up heals 150 HP over three seconds and has a range of 12 meters. Immortality Field is a throwable device that summons a 250 HP drone and protects the last 37,5 (1,5 block) of your HP. It has a 20 second cooldown that starts immediately and lasts for 7 seconds. The drone can be thrown pretty fast and pretty far. Amplification field is his ult and lasts 8 seconds. The new hero page states: Baptiste creates a matrix that doubles the damage and healing effects of friendly projectiles that pass through it. Brigitte armor pack acts like Ana's nanoboost (it cannot be reflected or matrixed) , so I think it's not considered a projectile and therefore won't be amplified. The same goes ofcourse for Mercy's healing and Brigitte's Inspire. Not sure about Moira's Primary and Secondary though.
That's my prediction, too. That's all Zen needs, to be made obsolete.
