https://clips.twitch.tv/VastGiftedSlothWutFace Nintendo takes some time from the tournament to explain how lag works
who are these clowns why are they commentating a competitive "item" match nintendo why
Can't really say that when they opted to use an incredibly unhealthy and hard to balance mechanic (dealing damage does nothing except boost meter which is the only way to kill people) over either of the well-established fighting game mechanics of life bars or king of the hill more damage = knocked farther away mechanics. They also have Cole from Infamous as 2 characters, where the only difference is one is fire and the other is ice (electric?). Oh, and Fat Princess. No Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon, but Fat Princess is there.
Cole being two characters was at Sucker Punch's insistence; the devs wanted him to be one character. Same with using DmC Dante instead of Classic Dante. I can't comment on Fat Princess or the lack of Crash or Spyro because I don't know enough about the circumstances behind them. I also don't see the issue with trying the "supers to kill" concept. It may not have worked out well in practice, but that thought process of "you must adhere to established fighting game conventions" is poisonous if you ask me. We'd only ever have Street Fighter-style fighting games if that philosophy were adhered to. Smash wouldn't have even become what it has if it weren't allowed to try its own thing, and to this day we still see a lot of fighter gamers pushing for "Smash has to do this thing traditional fighters do because that's what fighting game veterans expect". Sometimes that works out well (the Final Smash meter was something everyone wanted), other time it just deprives the series of any room to breathe. Can you imagine how much worse off we'd be if Smash were originally made to just tick all those fighting game boxes rather than letting Sakurai experiment?
From what I understand, those characters weren't featured because the respective owners backed away from the project upon hearing what it was going to be, afraid it'd be perceived as an "inferior knock-off" Raiden in particular is an interesting case; Kojima himself pressured Konami into refusing Sony's request for Snake, but Sony were able to bypass Kojima by talking with Platinum Games instead and add MGR Raiden to the roster, since Platinum was given creative control of MGR as a spinoff entity for a time by Konami.
Honestly I don't get why people want Doom Guy. If we got him he wouldn't even play the way you want him to play so why even ask for it? They probably would base him off his classic look from the original DOOM and not DOOM 2016 anyways like every 3rd party character, and his original design is, uh... boring. Like really boring. And even if they used DOOM 2016's design he wouldn't go around goring demons and shooting guns so why even ask? All the aspects that people like about him would have to be stripped down completely so what is even the point. At least I understand why people ask for Banjo because he could fit right in with the art style but Doom Guy just ... doesn't. Like at all.
What about Blazkowicz, then? At least he's got some personality.
My "snowball's chance in hell" wishlist is still Travis Touchdown, Tails, Chrono, and Banjo-Kazooie Each of which I think are unlikely for their own reasons
I don't necessarily want him, but I'm absolutely curious to see how they'd pull him off. Plus, you know the stage and music would be fuckin' primo. Same with Duke Nukem; they made Bayo work, but what if we push the envelope just a little further?
So, it seems Elite Smash requirement right now is somewhere around 3,690,000 GSP. I just reached it with Dark Samus, ROB and Ylink I'm already there.
DOOM has a longstanding history with Nintendo, all the way back to the SNES. It also would represent both FPS and PC games, which don't have any real representation in Smash. If they're serious about making Smash a celebration of gaming in general, Doom guy makes a lot of sense.
Going to main Sonic The Hedgehog in Smash competition. I had my first tournament today and I hope to do well in the future. I lost by the way. If you're going to Huntsville Texas, Head to Gamers Grove on the 2nd of March. I'll be there.
Tbh, I'd be perfectly fine with the classic Doomguy design being used. He'd get to show off his guns which is a plus for me, honestly.
Plus DLC characters get alt costumes all the time. So even if his original design was his default design (which I'd be okay with still), 2016 DG could still totally be an alt costume.
I mean I'd be perfectly fine with Classic Doomguy, honestly I would rather have him if I'm being completely honest and that isn't a knock on DG 2016. It's just I feel the classic one fits smash a little better
I mean. You can basically make up reasons like this for any character people want. People want the character because they liked their game and feel like they would be fun to play as in smash.
Activision still owned Crash and Spyro back then, so Sony probably didn’t even bother to ask under the presumption that Activision would be greedy and overcharge for Crash. If the game was already a budget project (not the dev’s fault), and if they were being strong armed into including characters like two Coles, inferior Dante, etc, then they probably would have even less leeway with the big boys.
You, regular brain: Doom Guy Me, an Intellectual of Universe Brain: Dusk Dude, who is gonna have his game on Switch.
And let's also not forget that SuperBot took the time to add characters like Spike, PaRappa, Toro, Sir Daniel, and Needles Kane. Like, some genuinely classic B-list picks in there, when you wouldn't have expected a studio which didn't care to do anything more than skim the most popular titles and throw in some schmucks from currently trending titles, even if they're generic nobodies. And yes, PSASBR is guilty of this to a degree (Killzone guy, Fat Princess, Big Daddy, Starhawk guy, etc.), but those better picks I mentioned are like Nintendo reaching into their vault for characters like Pit or Marth and giving them new life. And bear in mind, SuperBot is an American studio, but they still took the time to throw bones to Japanese fans with characters like Spike and Toro, whose series are far more popular over there than out here. Add in some cult-classics like Sir Daniel and PaRappa, and friggin' hell, Sony's original Polygon Man mascot as their Master Hand equivalent?! Like - as a gaming history buff, PSASBR tickles my fancy almost as much as Smash itself. Again, I think Sony are just an arrogant pain in the ass nowadays and it's no secret that I believe PS4 doesn't deserve nearly the success it's had (especially against the Wii U), but don't knock PSASBR. Unoriginal concept, yes, but SuperBot genuinely cared about trying to do that game justice... as much they could with all the suits breathing down their necks.
If you think those characters are b-tier you know very little of playstation history. That's be like saying Sakurai adding ness and captain falcon and game and watch was being incredibly generous just because you specifically never played f-zero or mother.
I want Doom because it's absurd on paper. I'm sure they'll make it work. alsoI love Doom
Oh, stop with these attempted "gotcha"s. You know what I'm trying to say. Compared to the main superstars of Mario and Zelda for Nintendo or stuff like Uncharted or GoW for Sony - where you won't find a single person remotely connected to gaming who hasn't heard of them by now - these other franchises are the next "level" (or whatever you want to call it) of popularity down.
I'd like Doomguy in smash because I like the notion of him just shoving a double barrel shotgun in a squid kid's face and blasting them across the map.
I mean Inklings themselves do that already so why not.
FaN Scout?
Snake can already use an RPG to do that, so I guess you can kinda get some vicarious wish fulfillment in that way
A man in tights does not compare to the walking industrial meat grinder for hell.

They aren't "gotchas", whatever those are supposed to ve. All the characters you mentioned were important part of making Sony Playstation a household name. Parappa the Rapper's popularity is a huge reason why rhythm games even exist to this day. Sweet Tooth is the mascot of Twisted Metal, a series so popular numetous knock-offs and sequels were spawnes. If you don't realize that, you probably aren't aware of Sony's history, because it goes well beyond Metal Gear and FF7, just like Nintendo's legacy goes beyond Mario and Pokemon. Not everybody here is trying to say they're the smartest person in the room. Instead of saying "oh come off it, stop trying to say you're smarter than me", consider saying something more productive, like "i didn't realize that they were that important"?
disrespect Solid Snake in this manner one more time and so help me god
