i think Sylux would probably have been intended to coincide with/promote Metroid Prime 4, but since that one's in the hole for another few years they'll probably swap him out
Reggie was saying that all the reps would be characters new to the game, which, well, makes sense because Ultimate already has every veteran in the base roster.
My "never ever gonna happen" rep will always be the Elite Beat Agents. Were I King Sakurai, they'd be my first order of business. Unfortunately, they're also the "never ever gonna get a sequel" camp too.

Another F-Zero rep, another Sonic rep, and maybe Funky Kong DK Echo, Alph becoming a true Echo (with the rumoured rock pikmin), and Bandanna Dee are all characters I desperately want (in that order). Seriously, it's actually criminal that F-Zero still only has Falcon. I've said this before - even if it's an echo fighter (which would be unlikely because Ganondorf), you've got Blood Falcon, Black Bull, Beastmaster, all perfect choices that could even be built off of Falcon's model!
We have two though https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1822/9cf26f37-6760-4ead-be4c-768ea5819993/image.png
Dont know if repost but. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMGY23AleHs
Yup this kills it for me. Very wishy-washy statements about his source's claims, no photos to speak of months after the fact, likely piggybacking off of Verge in regard to Square Enix. Joker must've been a lucky guess.
Does anyone else get annoyed that you can't zoom out when you're in realms so you can't see what spirits you missed?
They would more than likely add Louie/Britney/Charlie and make them an echo before they take away Alpha as a costume.
Despite being a huge longshot I would actually like it if Porky became a fighter.
Personally I'd like Kumatora to be in, but with her own original move set.
I mean, Fire emblem only got a measly one character in Ultimate so far (weak!!) so it'd make sense to use at least one of the designated FE spots for the upcoming game. Don't worry, they'll save at least one more for the final DLC reveal What do you think her specials are gonna be? Very excited to see her down B personally
Yes, the Link from the first Legend of Zelda, who is, technically an entirely different character from every other Link in Smash. There is only one Shantae, and the Spirit of her found in the game is just her without any special gimmick going on. Other spirits that include fighters that are in the roster have some kind of gimmick going on that seperates them from the fighters' appearance in the roster, or it emphasizes something else if they are present in it.
would it be a dick move to retract praise given to sakurai for his efforts after he reveals an 8th FE character like Edelgard just asking for a friend
Well, all we know is that Nintendo made a list and Sakurai picked from it. We don't know if Nintendo placed any other restrictions on it like "You must pick at least one Fire Emblem rep"
It wouldn't make me think less of the game or him, it does make sense from Nintendo's standpoint. I'm not denying that the series rakes in tons of money from whales, but you can't blame people for being disappointed when a series that only went mainstream once they abandoned tasteful and classy character designs for shit on par with app store waifu sim #4967 along with (from what I've seen and from what I hear from people who actually play the newer games) absolutely laughable writing almost has more reps than fucking Mario or Pokémon, even giving two single characters victory themes of their own because they're so special.
I guess I don't get the outrage over FE content in the roster when FE in the roster consists of 4 characters with entirely unique schticks going on for their fighting style (Marth, Ike, Robin, Corrin), and 3 clones that took up only a minimal amount of effort compared to the other four. They all use swords and all of them except for one have a counter, but the unique ones all have their own style that seperate them from each other, and it's not like the clones took up dev time that could have been spent on adding other, bigger characters or stole slots. Fire Emblem also has little to no content outside of the roster compared to other franchises except for three stages and one item, compare that to the other big Nintendo franchises like Mario and Zelda that have 9-10 different stages and a buttload of items.
you're confusing outrage with boredom
I guess, I'm mostly around Twitter and the people there are ENRAGED over Fire Emblem existing. Literally every time the Smash accounts tweet anything slightly related to FE people act like it's the end of the world and Fire Emblem will enslave us all
That's what does it for me, I was totally into the franchise up until Ike and I still wanna try the games out but post-Awakening it's just... eugh This is a discussion for another thread though, I do apologize for getting pissy about FE from time to time and derailing the thread and it stops here
I dunno why they would go about making a list and then arbitrarily restrict it. When people think about Nintendo picking the options, they assume it's more a limitation than an opportunity. If you ask me, they probably came to him with it like "Okay, these are characters that would get a ton of attention. There are some here that nobody would see coming, or that many would assume impossible. Pick any five of them you want, and we will do whatever it takes to make them work."
Fire Emblem has a handful of Assist Trophies, a item now and a ton of characters. It's not like it's starved and saying it's "just the characters, not much else" doesn't really mean a lot when the characters are the things you'll see the most and are the absolute most important things in the game. Like Marx for example, it's cool that he's a boss but after you fight him in story mode or a classic mode you will probably never see him again. He's technically new content for the Kirby series but he's not going to get any screen time on smash streams or in most gameplay. Same with items and assist trophies as they're usually turned off in a lot of rulesets. I'm usually pretty relaxed when it comes to "slots" but FE honestly has enough right now. I wouldn't mind if it got more characters in future titles but let other series get some more stuff first instead of just dickriding that one specific franchise. Let Zelda have a new rep, fans of that series have been waiting a long ass time. Let Kirby have a 4th rep or give us a new Sonic guy. Just anything really.
Yeah, I won't deny that FE has more than enough characters by now either. The addition of Chrom, a character from a game from over 5 years ago despite 2 new entries, felt super lame. And he doesn't feel fully implemented either with how a lot of Robin's animations still use him. If they HAD to add a Fire Emblem character to be a Roy clone I would've said pick Alm, to have something in the roster that doesn't look like Marth. But ideally they could've just left out adding another FE character even if it's just a clone.
Cristina Vee? Cerebella confirmed.
honestly my problem with most of the FE characters is... i don't know what kind of personality they have in their games, but the whole nobility thing they all have going in smash is just boring to me. personality is a pretty big factor for me, almost all of the characters i play have either hammy or comedic personalities that show in their fighting styles. ike's cheesy voice acting in brawl and smash 4 made me like him pretty fast. unfortunately they decided to change his voice so he's always trying to sound like a badass. he's still fun to play as, but that's where it ends. i still very much dislike corrin because his personality in smash is just so bland. on the other hand, i like marth and roy a lot more now that i can understand what they're saying. on the gameplay side, they're all fun to play as, but it's not very fun watching other people play them. robin has a great unique moveset but most of the time when i fight a robin player they spend half the match running away to charge thoron and that's just straight up *boring*. i have the same issue with cloud; fun moveset, fun idea for a fighter. but every cloud i've ever fought spends the entire match running to the other side of the stage to charge limit break tl;dr if i seem unhappy with a new fighter it's because i think their personality is boring. not because i hate fire emblem or because i hate anime
I want more characters with really involved gimmicks, one-of-a-kind movesets, or completely unique playstyles Ultimate's outright new characters all fit this description, here's hoping they keep it up
That is completely fair enough. I personally feel like Ike's new voice is pretty fitting of his actual personality, it's not that he tries to be a badass or anything, it's moreso a result of him being raised as a mercenary and tends to be rather blunt. The closest thing to a more comedic character in terms of Fire Emblem in the roster would be Chrom, his personality from Awakening translated really well into Smash. Him making dumb remarks like "The training paid off!" when winning, or saying "Sorry!" when losing a stock just brings out the dork in him.
It's kind of obvious why they added Chrom instead of someone like Alm. He was the only MC from Awakening not playable, they already had the model from Robin's Final Smash available, he could easily fit into their "new" Echo category for Roy (Similar to his daughter with Marth), and, believe it or not, a lot of people actually like and did want Chrom in Smash. I knew a lot of people that were disappointed that he was relegated to a FS in 4 and were super excited to find out he was finally getting in.
Agreed, smash needs more bad guys, and Porky's been in smash as a boss before, so he'd be a great fit. Whether he uses his mech from Earthbound or Mother 3 he'd certainly have a unique design for a character. Problem imo with Kumatora is she's a super niche character, she'd be neat but is only really known by Mother 3 fans. Lucas also using Freeze, Fire and Thunder also kinda limits how unique she can be a bit. Porky at least has that reputation of being known from subspace, and from people who've only played Earthbound, as well as filling a kinda niche that hasn't been explored, with weird spider movement from his mech.
