Titanfall 2 has hitscan weapons yes, most of the weapons that use conventional ammo (with the exception of the Kraber) are hitscan weapons in TF2. This is not the case in Apex
Why remove the things Titanfall was known for? They could've had something great here. A 60 person free for all with titans blowing everything up and people jumping on walls and shit, it could've been the best BR ever. I honestly hope EA goes under and Respawn can keep the rights to their game.
Right. I see where you're coming from. Personally I guess I don't mind that too much since I find actual travel time to be more fun. And I imagine hitscan would be absolutely awful in long distance areas. Just sniping everyone easy-peasy is not a good way of doing it.
This video pretty much sums the current state of the industry up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4vnKir5guQ TLDR: skill-based shooters don't sell anymore. In regards to movement in particular, all the most successful shooters on the market today minimize the amount of skill needed to master said movement as much as possible. You want to know why Overwatch is so popular? Because they ditched Quake style-rocket jumping in favor of pressing a single button to literally hover in the air - to name just one example of simplification in the game.
Regardless of what people think, I want to at least say I'm happy that the game appears to have an actual fair monetization system very unlike EA.
To be fair, hitscan weapons in BR modes are a fucking nightmare. You're going to get lasered from 5km away with isn't fun. Or if you're the shooter, your guns just arbitrarily stop working at a distance you can't gauge.
I'm all for physical bullet simulation, when it works. This game's hit detection feels worse than BFV on a bad day, and that's saying something.
I hate to be that guy, but are you 100% sure it's not a connection problem? Neither me nor my friends had any problem with leading whatsoever. Especially not at such close range. And they're usually the type to complain about bad hit reg.
I have rock-solid 450 Mpbs internet and live right near a major city. Could very well be, but a friend who lives nowhere close to me reported the exact same issues.
I see. I figured it might be related to the "random slow down" you mentioned too. Which I can't say I understood.
Whenever I collide with a wall in even the most slight of circumstances, or turn my character, my sprint speed flatlines almost immediately. It struck me as a mechanic more than anything else.
At least without double jumps, Dean Takahashi can get to play? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/194269/29da4997-e176-4fba-a8ef-782c1710043f/Screen Shot 2019-02-04 at 6.06.58 PM.png You know, the guy behind this: https://cdn2-www.gamerevolution.com/assets/uploads/2017/09/Cuphead-Journalist.jpg
I'd be down.
Kinda adds insult to injury that there's not advanced movement but every character is wearing a jump kit.
I managed to win my first and only game. I've never won a BR game before.
Honestly if they veto'd the whole no jump kit thing I would actually be down to give this a shot, the classes at least look interesting (if not somewhat confusing as to why you'd add classes to a game that its going to be full of microtransaction customisation. Just let people pick the ability and character model seperately...?)
And... wow that's profoundly mediocre
I already said this in a different thread, but I'm now very concerned for the future existence of Respawn as a studio. Let's be frank here, even if you're enjoying this game, it isn't going to do well. People are gonna jump in, realize there's nothing really special about it over PUBG/Fortnite, and then go back to those games because they have more investment in them. It's the same thing that happened when MOBAs were the big craze. A new one would come out, people would try it, and then go back to their MOBA of choice. So, to recap, Titanfall was a commercial failure to EA, Titanfall 2 was a commercial failure to EA, and this will be a commercial failure more than likely. That only leaves Respawn left with that Star Wars game they're working on, which could easily be canned at any point due to Disney's ever growing lack of confidence in EA, or could also end up a commercial failure due to EA's usually terrible ability to manage their IPs. As such, we could very well be seeing the last days of Respawn, just as Anthem may very well be Bioware's final days right now. As someone who absolutely adored Titanfall and Titanfall 2 for just how fun they were to play, this makes me sad to think about.
played a couple rounds of apex it's basically a free version of cod blackout
I didn't think this would impact me much, but goodness my evening just got a lot worse coming to terms with the fact that this really is what we are getting instead of a continuation to a much-beloved game. It actually upsets me on a rather largely. Not just because of how this is what has happened to Titanfall (albeit it is still a large reason) but because it raises concerns as to what else could happen to franchises and games that we all already love and trust. It reinforces the cynical outlook that because a series can plunge itself head-first into the shitter at any moment, games that are good in the moment can't be enjoyed by some for fear of what's to come succumbing to the outlook that creates practices such as these.
Basically my time line of events was Before Apex Reveal: Cautiously optimistic During Apex Reveal: Hyped First game of Apex: it's alright News that Titanfall 3 was canned: Fuck
Well EA desperately needs their own BR game seeing as they're rapidly running out of projects to release and the ones they have going currently are dying pretty fast, except maybe FIFA. But they just aren't releasing games anymore and need to make money somewhere. A F2P BR game fits that hole but remains to be seen if it gets off the ground.
From the sounds of things TF|3 wasn't even in the pipeline. Which really sucks. I would like to see them take another whack at it (with a decent release date this time EA you fucks). I can tell that EA probably go them working on Apex both for quick cash and a reason to merge a "failing" studio into DICE again. But I really hope Respawn actually wanted to do this and to see it succeed at the same time. It's just such a weird direction to take that I refuse to believe they did this entirely of their own choice however. Motherfuckers at Respawn deserve better than this.
I found the whole game to be genuinely boring. It feels like a mashup of current popular games without any thought. The ultimates and abilites of Overwatch, the royale of Fortnite and gunplay of Titanfall/Cod. Not to mention that the character designs and personalities feel genuinely off to me. Even the robot which tends to be the most unique designs in even generic games.
Apparently EA had no hand in the choice to make a battle royale. Basically when I read this I imagine EA holding Respawn by the collar and saying "YOU GO OUT THERE AND TELL THEM YOU FELL DOWN THE STAIRS" because I don't but it for a second.
You haven't heard anything about BFV BR because they made the galaxy brain decision to release it in March this year. Otherwise they've barely said anything about it, other than its just 'in development'.
It's obvious this was EA's idea. Respawn wouldn't willingly do this to their baby. They loved making Titanfall 2, you can tell by how much work they put into it. This game reeks of corporate meddling at the core. Hero abilities, loot boxes, and no innovative forms of movement. Let alone the fact there aren't any Titans in the game shows EA was behind all of this.
WarSpiritUK - a TF and TF2 pro - is currently streaming Apex so I asked him on a scale of one to ten how depressed the game made him feel. https://clips.twitch.tv/ResilientAttractiveStarlingDatBoi
Thanks to patches, (which can make a good game great when done well, but they often aren't) you don't even need a new entry in a series for a game to be ruined. I had a blast with S3 Fortnite and now I have no desire to ever touch it again. The worst thing about Apex Legends is that it could easily be amazing if Titanfall's movement were used. The map even looks well suited for it with walls and rocky cliffs everywhere.
I actually like this a lot. Its not Titanfall, but its still fun af.
