I may be wrong but I do recall seeing a twitter response from SEGA JP asking for people to vote for their favorite games and I do recall it saying that they're only adding one game per series. Again, I may be wrong.
Imagine the outcry if the NES Classic divided Mario 1 and 3 between regions for that same reason.
Are they actually retarded.
The thing is that the Mario games all have their own strengths and weaknesses, but people wouldn't be that mad if they only had Mario 3 over Mario 1. Both games stand well on their own, despite all the upgrades 3 brought to the table. Sonic 1, while definitely having plenty of fans with it as their favorite, is pretty much nothing more than groundwork for what Sonic would really become with 2 and 3, and limiting Sonic 2 to Japan-only while making the US stick to 1 when 2 was more prevalent over here is absurd.
Sonic 3 should've been on there instead of Sonic 1
I agree, but I think the soundtrack is a problem for legal reasons (in regards to legalities that do not apply to the soundtracks for Sonic 1 or 2).
We'll probably never see Sonic 3 being released again due to the whole soundtrack fiasco that's going on.
when did that all start again? I remember there being a compliation game for DS that had it bundled.
God I wish Skyward Sword would release on Switch already, it's the only Zelda I have yet to play.
The big problem is that while i'm sure the Switch Joycons can probably accommodate for the Motionplus Wiimote functionality of old, the Switch isn't really primed for motion games as much as the Wii was, but the entire game was designed around the motion controls. It would be a little tough of a sell for the Switch. Even if we go the HD remaster route in which they could pull a Wind Waker HD and alter some aspects of the gameplay (do we really need all the dowsing sections, for example), it's really not for everyone and the game got criticized for it as a result.
You're not missing much. Just watch a play through, there are so many bad mechanics in it that it's not fun.
unpopular opinion: if you remove the motion control and the repetitive fights with the imprisoned, skyward sword would be fine
You need to remove 90% of Fi's interruptions and the game's handholding, then cut stuff like dousing, and then make the enemy AI less incredibly passive so the motion control combat actually gets a workout, then either put a lot more to do in the flying overworld or double your movement speed so you waste less time doing nothing, then we can begin to talk.
I feel like a lot of the monotony with the Imprisoned fights is attacking the feet to make the head drop, especially with shockwaves in the second and third fights frustrating the player. It's so much easier and quicker to just hop onto its head from above and attack the sealing spike directly, without even bothering with the feet. The Imprisoned fights became pretty fun to me after I figured that out.
now see it's been so long since i've played skyward sword that i don't remember any of that stuff. the only things i remember are the imprisoned fights, having trouble with the motion control, and thinking the desert area was cool
Yeah this is what it would take for the game to be worth playing for me, everything else would just be a bonus.
wtf are you me
Skyward Sword is a failure of a game and removing the motion controls would actually make it worse. There's only like 4-5 enemies in that game and they're all gimmicks pointed at cutting them in a certain direction to kill them or holding up a shield to fuck with your swipes.
Then there's the problem that none of the bosses outside of a select few are any good- and most of them are just Girhim or Imprisoned repeated anyway.
Then the fact sidequests all give you the same damn thing making it pretty unsatisfying to do them.
Then the empty sky map with nothing at all going on in it
Then the fact most dungeon items are weak and underused because the focus on combat *has* to be the sword and motion controls and there's just no getting around that.
Then there's the obvious stuff everyone complains about like Fi or how it's just 3 maps used over and over again and only the desert is interesting at all.
Like I can go on. It's possible to enjoy a bad game but that one needs a overhaul completely if it ever gets re-released because it needs it bad.
I agree. Despite having motion functionality on par or better than MotionPlus, the Joy-Cons just aren't suitable to be used as wands, or even really to be used separate-handed. Sure, you can, but they're just far too small and not really shaped for it. Wiimote had pretty much the perfect shape for a wand. The Joy-Cons aren't really the follow-up they were supposed to be.
I'm still hoping we see a better realization of the concept in the Nintendo 8. I've said this before, but I feel like the entire Switch concept is unfinished and rushed out the door to replace the Wii U as soon as possible, successful as it may be. The Joy-Cons are a major reason why I think that. The ingredients are there for a perfect controller, but as they exist now, they aren't it.
no joke, i hate that the only games where you can use the touch screen are party games and mobile ports. why have the touch screen if i can't menu with it? super frustrating.
I saw the touchscreen aspect of the Switch as doomed to fail from the beginning, simply due to the fact that you can't use it while docked. Yeah, you couldn't take the Wii U GamePad everywhere with you, but there was a reason they put a screen in the controller itself. Because that's what was gonna get people to use it, since it was always available. They might as well not have even bothered making the Switch's screen touch-sensitive.
If they didn't have a touch screen you can bet your ass people would be tearing them a new one for not having it.
I'm sure some people would complain that touch adds costs, though. That was the big moaning point about the GamePad.
least they could do is add touch functionality in the menus when undocked. splatoon in particular is ridiculous, the buttons are huge, they look like touch controls but you cant tap em.
Here's looking at you, Smash Bros for Switch and Wii U.
I think the touchscreen was only added for Mario Maker
This was extra bad after Kid Icarus Uprising put a lot of effort into being able to drag the menus around and mess with them.
I personally don't want to use my touchscreen cause then it'll get greasy and smudged constantly.
Hell, even as far back as Brawl, we couldn't use the pointer. That's my one beef with Sakurai menus; they're usually restricted to D-pad only, with Uprising and Meteos being the only exceptions.
That reminds me, it's a shame they shut down Miitomo...
