In the last level I really stocked up on bullets - and then never had any use for them. I feel a bit ripped off, but the ending was great regardless.
Felt like the ending was the strongest part of the game, even thought it was linear haha.
My favourite thing about the ending is how your choices mattered in a realistic way that made sense. The more bad shit you did, the more of your teammates got killed, the less people were around to save you. It's quite simple and genius.
Yeah none of the: here's two options, ones bad and ones good, pick one.
Well just finished the game and as good as it was, for me at least, it was a buggy mess and I found most of the writing to be extremely uninspired. There was so much more they could have done or at least expanded on, it didn't feel like the same level of love and care had been put in to this one like the previous two. The starting was over so quickly it left me wondering just exactly what happened and there were so many ??? moments that needed explaining or at least some kind of exposition between characters to actually justify. Example being the hijacking of the merchant ship to get onto the bridge, why is everyone ok with just murdering innocent traders to do some crazy plan that really could just be done under the cover of dark with a row boat, that entire section just made no sense whatsoever and goes completely against what the order is meant to be standing for, at least have someone object to the plan or have one of the other members take you aside and pleade with you not to hurt anyone etc. Doesn't help that there is very little mention of the previous games, 2 comes right at you with "you did X in the previous game now deal with the consequences" where this barely even mentions the previous games exist. Like I enjoyed it don't get me wrong but not nearly as much as the previous titles which is probably what annoys me the most given the whole open exploration thing is a really neat idea but there was such little story in each area other than random side encounters etc they felt more like a chore than actual game content.
Anyone else feel like they'd prefer an open world Metro game actually set in the metro? I feel that navigating the tunnels and side passages between stations while learning about the different threats and factions that occupy them would have made for a more memorable experience than the open maps we got in Exodus. With the ammo economy it could have produced some nice gameplay loops as well, balancing the risk/rewards of taking unexplored routes versus safer ones. You could use the surface as a faster way to travel between stations, with greater dangers from mutants and radiation but more possible pre-war loot. Would also have produced nice player progression, where encouraging players to find the best paths through areas would lead to them actually feeling like an experienced Ranger/Metro inhabitant by the end. To me, the Metro was as much a character as Artyom so I'm really just bemoaning the lack of it. I still enjoy Exodus for what it is though.
I really like where they tried to push the series, I'm glad we got outside of Moscow, it really gave me a sense of wonder for the greater picture, but I do agree that I missed the claustrophobia and tension from the underground sections. I think everyone's in agreement that the last level was what made Metro as great as it is. There was something oddly terrifying about Novosibirsk in its entirety and it felt like the game was finding its feet in this section, only to end so abruptly.
I wouldn't say I'm mad at the ending to be honest. I was more mad about the fact I somehow received bug where you can't turn the boat left or right in novosibirsk And had to restart the chapter to fix it because drowning and checkpoint load didn't fix it. Otherwise, tbh, I'm not mad at the ending. I feel like it ended abruptly but the game wouldn't have been better if it were longer, it'd probably have been worse judging on how buggy and janky the game was at times as is. I guess personally if the game were delayed another year or two for additional content I'd have been fine with it, but as it stands there wasn't much it could have added that wouldn't have ultimately came at a greater cost to the game in general. I feel like I want another game in the same universe at least though.
I feel like I'm the only one not to encounter a single bug my entire playthrough lmao
I also love how it brings it back around to the beginning with Arytom getting transfusions for a selfish goal of wanting to leave Moscow vs getting transfusions for the selfless goal of saving a loved one
About the final level Gorillas with no eyes aren't really... scary. The Final encounter being them took away from the impact of the finale. You could have made them way scarier, but they're just a less visually interesting Librarian
I liked to think of them as a different mutation, like the Nosalis' were called "Nose" (Or that's what the artist uploaded them as) I like to think of their name as "Scientists" lol
I think the idea was that they were supposed to force you to slow down and make it feel like more time was being wasted, but since they go down with only a few shots from Miller's tikhar, you can just whiz past them
oh damn i thought that was part of the story too. i also did everything right there, and in the whole game, and i had him leave. anyone got an explanation?
Did you free the slaves from that one ship and get the photo for Giul before doing the missions with Damir? I haven't even interacted with any NPCs on the rig let alone tried to get into fights with them and he stayed on my team
Yeah I did that stuff. In fact I don't think I killed a single person before the final mission with Damir. I went around knocking out all the bandits
if you mean the slave who almost gets beat to death (not the slave woman outside the harem) - you wait until the slaver punches them through a doorway then follows them into a small room, and then you can knock him out without the rest of the base seeing you. also i don't think it counts for a moral point if you kill the slaver instead of knocking him out, because iirc the slave specifically asks you not to kill him and thanks you if you don't. i didn't save the harem girl either but Damir still didn't leave, so i assume you can save either one.
i must have missed that other slave and didn't end up saving either. that's a bit shit considering how non lethal and slave freeing i was on the level. i still got the good ending at least
I literally didn’t do anything on the rig and still got the good ending
It seems weirdly tied to saving one of those two individuals. I saved several slaves in other areas, didn't kill anyone in the areas leading up to that. I did miss the picture somehow despite combing that bunker, when I looked it up later I apparently just walked right past it. I guess the moral points are tight enough that if you miss a couple of them it's not enough.
I killed the slaver and it gave me the white flash, but the slave asked why I killed him and complained that they'd take it out on him. Not that it matters since the slaves revolt like 5 minutes later, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah I guess the game decided that I just didn't need the van in Caspian. I went back to the building and went back up, making sure I went everywhere, through the gate, walked along the whole roof and to the zipline. Nothing. No QTE, no car keys, no ambush. Still can't interact with the car. As if to taunt me, I found a truck that I CAN interact with but it's locked despite the door being physically hanging open. Then another van I also can press E on that is also locked, even though I side door is open so I can crouch and literally climb in the back seat. Oh well, guess I will walk all across an area clearly designed around driving, Still having lots of fun but this area doesn't like me.
Just restart the level, it's not like you're that far into it.
Actually I've cleared everywhere except near the lighthouse so I really don't want to do that unless some sort of progress stopping bug occurs but thanks for the oddly passive aggressive sounding suggestion. It's weird, I hadn't encountered even the slightest problem up until Caspian where the wonk seems to live. I'll just try and finish this place up soon and move on, not a big deal. The oil geysers are awesome though.
I abandoned my car, the place isn't even that big enough for it or I just hated how it drove.
After the lighthouse you /should/ get the car "back" anyway since Damir brings it to you
Awkward thought while playing the Summer chapter earlier, Anna's extremely perky nipples in her tank top remind me of Fakefactory's creepy models for Alyx in the cinematic mod, and I have a feeling this was not the intended effect.
She did just finish having sex with Artyom when Summer starts, so it's not unrealistic for her to have perky nipples.
Perky nips are a thing that actually can happen to girls, right after sex like Janus said also.
Ah, I did not think of that lol
