I've started playing Metro 2033 for the first time (well, technically second time, but the first time i've played it was like 6 years ago and i've quickly lost interest).
I'm enjoying it a lot now that i can understand it better, but man if I get anxious when playing monster-centric missions. Cursed Station was a nightmare.
I'm stuck on the Trolley Combat mission atm, i think my checkpoint save got bugged because as soon as i load it my vehicle explodes. The entire section is not that fun compared to the rest which is a shame because the whole game is so immersive and interesting.
Is DX12 worth using on my 1080 with Metro Exodus? I've been told it has issues but so far I haven't had any problems with it.
I struggle with my opinion on this game. Something about the bulk of the game wasn't that appealing despite the main story, characters, settings, and literally everything else being excellent. I honestly think the transition to a open-world type of game instead of the linear yet open system of the first two games. The ending also felt rushed to some degree: I love a lot about the last level, but introducing 3 meh enemy types with no interesting points throughout it was kinda of a waste of time. I'd rather the final setpieces of 2033 and Last Light instead.Overall I'd give it like a 7/10, which is about par with 2033 if not worse and for certain worse than LL. I honestly wish they went back to a bit more linear scale or reducing things on the map for a few scripted setpieces instead of the wide mess that Caspian feels like. I think Volga was probably the best area in terms of gameplay, felt densely packed enough for me to appreciate roaming for new things unlike Caspian. So, if this was based on 2035, is this the end of Metro? I'm sad
usually before.
I wholly expected to see some crazed bandits with chrome spray paint covered mouths to jump me in the Caspian Sea area.
Would've loved that as an easter egg in one location but maybe a bit too on the nose
The plot revolving around Anna getting sick really ticked me off, mainly because She goes off, falls into the ammunition dump in the first stage, then is constantly chastised for not helping the team, then goes off the grid AGAIN during the second level got REALLY tiring really quickly
That, and you didn't think a painful cough was dangerous after three months????
I'm kinda sick of Anna being the damsel in these games, the series being Man vs. The New World is way more interesting.
about the ending:
im pretty sure the only thing that really ends up mattering is the children of the forest, i killed them all and got the bad ending because alyosha didnt give me blood, it's kinda bullshit honestly because i did everything good up to that point
that being said the bad ending is still pretty dope being able to see khan and bourbon again
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Team Fortress 2 Medic in Metro
Am I the only one who can't see another Metro game with these characters? Unless it involves saving people from the metro via train.
i see another metro game being a new set of characters with cameos or maybe even heavy involvement with the old crew
The Gang solves the radiation problem.
You need at least 2 of the 3 to remain with the crew. Children of the forest only matters if Duke or Damir are gone.
does it matter if i kill the pirates to get the boat? the fuckers spot me instantly
tbh i found exodus a bit disappointing, the open world sections are pointless and run like shit compared to the more linear sections
I got the good ending and shed manly tears. It was particularly rough since I hadn't played Metro and seen the characters like Anna in 4 years, then I binged it and explored every interaction. I'm still pretty sad now that it's over.
Yes it does, everyone around you is like "wtf dude why did you kill them"
They're not pirates, they're traders. And yes it does matter.
i mean during the taiga section
In that case yes it does. The pirate thing is just a play to keep people away, they're not like bandits (entirely).
I'm pretty sure it doesn't. I murdered them and it affected nothing.
i want a metro game based around managing one of the stations in the metro
I would love building up like guard outposts!
but I feel like this would be a great side feature in like a normal metro game, like have you return to it after each mission and building it up helps you and gives you the good guy points.
I finished Exodus today.
First let's get the technical stuff out of the way. The game run pretty well for the most part. There were occasional frame drops but nothing too serious. I got couple of crashes but usually during some loading screens. I remember only one time the game froze and I had to restart my PC. For game bugs I got pushed into the environment a couple of times and couldn't move, forcing me to reload a checkpoint. Probably the worst bug was during the second open world level. I grabbed the Bulldog rifle and put all my favourite mods on it. Not sure what happened but after loading the game the gun disappeared. The problem is this took away all those mods with it and some of them I couldn't find again for the rest of the game. Not game breaking but when you spent time exploring the map and then lose stuff because of a bug it hurts.
Not bad attempt at open world but I wasn't fully satisfied. It's partially Far Cry and partially more survival oriented. I guessed you can say it's post-apocalypse but as you explored and cleared out the map the more empty it got. The stealth and shooting stayed the same for the most part which is good. I also appreciated there are now groups you can kill without losing karma. The previous Metro games, I held back a lot just to get the good ending which was a shame. The shooting is really well-made.
Writing was fine although at times way too predictable. I also wasn't very impressed by the final enemies. All in all the more linear parts of the game show the Metro series is still the strongest in more confined spaces.
And lastly but no surprise here, the game looks stunning.
Playing through the final mission again to get the blind one achievement. They would have been a much better final enemy if you had to sneak by them instead of just being able to down them with a couple shotgun blasts. Trying to avoid getting spotted by them is actually really nerve wracking and makes the whole area
Really creepy but when you can just unload on them all tension is lost.
Just finished the game on Ranger Hardcore, what a wild ride overall. My favorite area was The Dead City despite it feeling somewhat rushed, the blind ones were a good time too and kinda freaked me out. But by far my least favorite was The Taiga, I really like the idea behind it but the whole area was over too quick.
there is actually another anomalous area in Volga, it's one of the swamped houses a little bit west of the island where you get the charger upgrade. nothing too scary happens in it though, it's just filled with skeletons and spooky ghost sounds and a note saying how it was a field hospital where everyone died of radiation poisoning or committed suicide
Its not just the sounds. After reaching the end and read the note if you have your flashlight on the building will be filled with ghosts when you turn around to head back out.
In the Dead City there's a skeleton just off the path you're taking, next to a grate in the sewers, that turns its head to look at you. It follows you as you move around.
