TF2 General Chat & Speculation Station V17 - Ms. Pauling Won't Stop Calling Me

I wear them on demo because when you do the hi5 taunt he points at it.
Turd in the punchbowl here, but I find the entire notion of casual ranks and medals to be completely pointless. MyM was some cobbled together bullshit and the ranking system is just another facet of that underdeveloped and deeply flawed construct. QuickPlay era Valve servers were a shit show, but they were no worse (and in many ways, actually better*) than casual matchmaking at any point in its nearly 3 year long history.
*One easy example: you could MOVE TO FUCKING SPECTATE to see if that sniper is wall hacking and then possibly switch teams to call a kickvote against him.
All the medal cosmetics could've easily been part of a UI feature when selecting someone's username on the scoreboard or some sort of profile feature.
Turning them into actual, wearable cosmetics should've only been reserved for top leagues or big events. This was perhaps the clumsiest way to go about having every single medal be a cosmetic that hardly anyone would wear normally
I genuinely hate when you watch the scoreboard and the casual badges are just meaningless noise next to your name. since tier badges are just a light recolor of the previous tier, there is no way to show who's tier 1 from anyone else.
Literally nobody would actually look at somebody's medal with that method of displaying them.
Having a badge/cosmetic medal slot is fine.
I made a custom medal with a Gaben-trollface. Demoman points at it and his facial expression pretty much captures mine.

"I'm funny, right guys? GUYS?"
Or like a sash that displays all the miniature medals and pins. That'd be a neat alternative so that you're not limited to just one medal being worn at a time
let's not have 30 medals to load and render on a single player.
having a badge/medal cosmetic slot is fine.
I was honestly hoping the Canteen Crasher badges were functional as... canteens.
I'd hella love a Power-Up Canteen that looks flashier than the regular/robo/Halloween ones.
they're medal-sized and far too tiny for this
There's plenty of stuff i wanted to do with the halloween canteen that napy and I made, but valve literally gave us the guidelines of "only 1 on and 1 off texture, because otherwise if we added new canteens in the future, yours would be broken."
kritz or treat was added 5 years ago.
All of the mvm-focused devs are long gone.
please don't spread such non-sense.
only problem with that is that they would not really be badges anymore at that point and I'm pretty sure valve would've never accepted all those medals if they were going to become canteens
with how adamant they are about medals, woudln't it had been far more easier and optimized to just have one medal per tournament league and just distribute them as a "ESL 201X <tier>" item? I mean, we went from 90+ different crates this way.
You are playing in DX8
I'm just saying, a not-so-resource heavy alternative could've just been a single cosmetic sash that can be worn, which then had stylized little textures filling in on dedicated spots on a sash; if they were to have gone with a different route instead of individual models for each and every medal

You probably mean badge level color and not tier color. Valve broke it sometime after JI and probably not going to fix that ever. Not like it was very noticeable before tho.

If you watch at my badge veeeeery closely, you can notice that it's slightly darker which means it's tier 2 badge.
All I want about the Casual medals is the tier color to be fixed.
Anyone ever spot a golden tier 8 player in the wild?
I for one would love to be a north korean general with all my medals all pinned together on my class.
Soldier and heavy are the only classes that have the chest real estate to do this though. It would just a meme on scout.
no one knows because the tiers don't show up on the scoreboard
nope, dx9. i'm not talking about the main badge color, but the background tier color:

compare the blue badge down below to the same badge in the scoreboard. the tiers don't work at all, and the slight variance in color on all the silver ones just looks like a side effect of the randomized lighting or angle of the badge model.
Yeah, I'm preeeeeetty sure that's a glitch with your badge model.

or yours is still silver because you're still tier 1?
The lighting looks incredibly bugged on yours, and making the back of the badges transparent blue would make no sense.
Weird bugs like that are common, even now that modding is basically impossible in the base game.
that's the intentional tier 2 color, and it's not transparent, it's black and blue. take a look at the tier colors listed on the wiki:

Wow, those don't look good. I stand corrected, but why is there weird-ass shading on the second through fifth badges?
whose idea was it to have the medals change their shape on each level and have unique colors per tier? its obvious a more gaudy looking model will be far more noticeable thanks to its sihoulette than to its color. it had to be the other way around - diferent shapes for tier and unique colors per level.
its literally one the basis of tf2's desing.
It's because the tiers were an afterthought, and not part of the initial design. They tacked them on.
