TF2 General Chat & Speculation Station V17 - Ms. Pauling Won't Stop Calling Me

Ins't the weapon banned in almost all if not all comp leagues? I thought you guys talk about the weapon on a casual environment. In comp the thing is broken and that's why nobody uses it. On Casual is way harder to pull it off sucessfully due to 12 players and more types of damage. Plus its a trend here that goes too much into theorycrafting, I'm glad the rlg. gg thing is on so we can see a more freely type of comp and see if all the theories being thought here hold water in a true scenario or not
I've played exactly zero game frames of competitive TF2, yet it is crystal clear to me why both the Vax and the Quick Fix are banned in comp. They'd be absolutely ruinous to sixes, and pretty terrible in HL as well. Can you imagine the current HL meta where the sniper has vax resistance?
Manmelter is in a fairly decent place. The problem is it's supposed to be used as a support tool with the Phlog, and we all know Phlog is pretty much the worst flamethrower outside of MVM
Fixing the Phlog to not be W-M1 trash that only works against potatoes would indirectly buff the Manmelter
I honestly think that's all the weapon needs to be in-line with other secondaries for Pyro. Its wonky arc aside, it's a fairly solid secondary since it can get guaranteed minicrits.
I just don't think it's right to have the Manmelter's usefulness limited to its alt-fire feature. There isn't always a burning enemy nearby so it's not often you'll find a use for the weapon in a fight. Unlike with the Shotgun and Flare Gun, which will almost always find a place in any engagement.
The easiest way to fix the Manmelter is to nerf the Scorch Shot. Remove the ability of any weapon except for the Manmelter and the Phlog itself to build mmph. Maybe allow the Sharpened Volcano Fragment to increase the mmph meter as well, not that it won't still be complete trash.
I actually wrote up the following soliloquy a while ago but never around to posting it:
The Sharpened Volcano Fragment is one of the worst weapons in TF2. What if other classes could equip it? How would that affect the game?
Scout: Disgustingly OP. Scout already has 3 bleed weapons. He doesn't need another DoT melee.
Solider: Melee solider (meme spoon and 50 foot long whip notwithstanding) is not a real threat. If Soldiers could equip the SVF, you'd be sure to see trolldiers using it.
Pyro: We know it's crap.
Demoman: Giving Demo any non-stock melee is a dicey proposition because he's got 3 shields and booties. An SVF Demoknight would be hell to fight against. He'd look really cool, I'll grant you.
Heavy: Bah. Tiny baby axe is useless for giant man. Melee is already a terrible idea on Heavy. The Holiday Punch is great "get out of jail free" card on servers with random crits, and the Fists of Steel are the best option the rest of the time.
Engie: Assuming a stock wrench with SVF melee stats, it'd be a nightmare for spies. Think of a massively upgraded SoHo. No flame vulnerability. Random crits. Burning instead of bleeding.
Medic: Would not change the meta at all, but we'd get a whole new type of useless battle medics in pubs.
Sniper: Nearly as OP as Scout. Like a hugely upgraded Shiv. Combined with Jarate, Snoipahknight would be a dangerous thing.
Spy: Utterly nonsensical. Backstabs would do ...480% target's HP. Butter knife hits would do a whopping 32 damage and set the enemy on fire. That is so insane I actually kind of want to see it in game. Once.
Conclusion: Ayep, the SVF is one of the most poorly designed weapons in the game. It's a shame too because the weapon model is really badass looking.
the Sharpened Volcano Fragment and Sun on a Stick need a buff
What if the SVF had its own special "Mark for Death" which increased damage taken by fire and afterburn, likely with holster speed penalties?
its crits.
hence why its got 50% faster speed.
Also give Demo the market gardner
What if the Scottish Handshake got Market Gardener stats and (gasp) we got a strange one?
give scottish handshake a bleed effect/gimmick like the tribalman's shiv but just give demo the market gardener
Just turn scottish handshake into another caber, and then turn the rest of his swords into the caber.
Let's just give all of his weapons the caber stats on top of every other stat they have.
give scottish a drink taunt that clears debuffs, then slap the classic -20% firing speed
This. Themed. War. Guns. Maps.
Thats basically all you need. No duck mini games or pyroland nonsense.
I really liked the idea of an update dedicated to and themed around TF Classic that brings (more) weapons based around functions in that game.
There are things I would want to do that, when you get into pedantic detail, doesn't meet what the common layman considers a community event
There are so many interpretations of those 2 words alone that you'd be hard-pressed to find total agreement over what it actually entails.
I, too, love jumping around like a rabbit on acid while firing my Minigun
to think we got soo close to it with the comics
Karma Charger (The guy who made all those weapon demonstration videos) has quit Youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0uGkh7MFVU&t=
at least he didn't fake his own death
He didn't even give the community time to archive his videos. He just privated them right away.
Good on the guy for moving on with his life but is throwing away years of valuable community content really the right choice? He could have changed his password to gibberish and moved on, or let the community archive his videos.
I just got a reminder why I don't queue for casual with friends. We got matched against a group of rage hackers.
High interp spy #1: Steam Community
Rage hacking Natascha heavy (yeah really): Steam Community
Griefer who got autobalanced on our team and held open the spawn door: Steam Community
Level 147 steam profile rage hacker: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198802513899
Disposable account healing the other cheaters: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198936696992
Quality experience all around.
I've seen kirb0 around a lot, for years. It's not uncommon after I run into a cheater that kirb0 is on their friends list, too.
somewhat related to this, Chaofanatic (the person behind all the good particle effects ever produced for tf2) is now working at wayfoward.

Now my boy FiveEyes needs to get hired
Considering valve doesn’t make weapons or balance changes anymore, I can see why he’s out of a job.
The Tf2wiki isn't a job, it's a completely fan-run effort, just like any other fanwiki.
Holy FUCK dude. So I attempted some solo queueing later on. I wanted to make myself feel better after tonight's series of horrible experiences.
First off, it was nearly impossible to find a game of Doublecross. A bit after MyM dropped I made a video called "So you wanted to play Doublecross?" While it is no longer quite THAT hard to find a game of DC, I did have two 10+ minute waits. Seriously.
Twice in one night I got matched into a game of bots. Really weird bots. They all play Heavy, constantly call for medic and spam chat with blank lines. Not endless newlines like a lot of cheats do, just one each but when the server is full of them the scroll rate is insane.
They also kick everyone who is NOT them. The first time it happened, my team had the heavy bots and the opposing team were actual players. The second time, BOTH teams were loaded with heavy bots. One by one they call a kickvote against each person who is not them. I think they then shoot anyone on the enemy team. I'm not 100% on this because of course I got kickvoted.
Fortunately, /coplay/ was working (one of Valve's best, if most unreliable features):

Spoiler alert: they're all new profiles.
The second time I looked closely to see if there was a "bot master" controlling the heavies, but I didn't see an obvious candidate.
If only I'd been able to, you know, MOVE TO FUCKING SPECTATE and take in the situation a bit more.
These Heavy bots are kind of insane. Different than the Catbots, which did not call kickvotes just rage hacked. I can't quite figure out what the designer of these new bots is attempting to do. Populate Valve servers with armies of bots that fight each other and kick anyone else?
Both times I encountered them on EU servers. I dunno if it's a localized problem. In my 11,000+ hours in TF2 I've never seen anything quite like it.
Valve is an abject embarrassment of a company. I'm both impressed and dismayed that they allow something like this to happen and will most likely do fuck all about it for months on end.
Make the canteen crasher maps/tours official.
