I don't have like any nostalgia for Crash but even I can admit he already has a full moveset, final smash, fun items, and tons of kickass music he could bring to the table.
I mean some like saltybet type mugen character select.
I do agree that Sakurai deserves a break and I hate to say this because he's definitely a major creative inspiration to the company but smash bros ultimate has at least over a hundred people on it's development team. I feel the same way when people idolize Hideo Kojima and Kenji Inafune. MGS5 had around a hundred fifty people working on it at least and I can't find any good numbers on bayonetta 2 but it's safe to say that Inafune didn't do most of the work himself.
Like I could totally be being a dickhead and just not understand how this works but making games is more than just the charismatic director of the game itself.
Solaire has an Amiibo, I feel like Nintendo and FromSoft are buddy-buddy enough that I could see a Dark Souls character getting in.
I feel like you'd still need to have some connection to Nintendo to be viable. Like, Final Fantasy got its start on the SNES and Cloud is absolutely the most iconic protagonist from that series. Bayonetta 2 is a Nintendo exclusive. Persona games have at least appeared on Nintendo consoles, the Q series being 3DS exclusive (I think, right?)
Something like Doomguy or Spyro or Crash is at least plausible, what I don't get is all the people who honest-to-god believe characters like Kratos and Master Chief have a shot of getting in. Minecraft Steve literally has a closer connection to Nintendo than someone like Marcus Fenix.
Inafune didn't work on Bayo 2 at all. I think you're confusing him for Hideki Kamiya, who just supervised Bayo 2.

I dunno if I'm late to the whole Dark Souls smash discussion but I actually think Ornstein and Smough(as a sorta ice climber thing, you pick which one is the main one with costumes) being the rep would be cool. They're iconic enough(one of the most famous boss fights) and could have a unique mechanic.
One gets KO'd, the other gets buffed.
Sounds like a stage boss which I'm not really crazy about.

not sure how well that would work as a user-generated thing, considering how spirits are meant to be based on existing characters, not sure if they wanna allow people to upload images of whatever they want

A thought just popped into my head: why wasn't Flat Zone X made for both versions of Smash 4? It's literally just Flat Zone 2 with Flat Zone 1 added as an extra transformation, and yet it only appears in Smash 4 Wii U. Smash 4 3DS just gets Flat Zone 2, which is so nearly identical that I don't know why they bothered making more work for themselves to remove the Flat Zone 1 assets they were already bringing back anyway. Surely that extra transformation wouldn't have been too taxing on the system?
Is it just me or is dedede in the best spot he's ever been in ultimate?
Likely laziness, to be honest, born from it being easier to port the Brawl stage than to try to redo the modified code from the Wii U version. The 3DS version is somewhat closer to Brawl than the Wii U version in terms of design and probably forked fairly early into production when they set up the two teams. Before being patched out, it even had DACUS.

Slightly?! The Dedede we have atm is easily on par with his Brawl iteration. He is *leagues* over his Smash 4 variants and arguably one of the best heavies, rivaling DK.

I wouldn't say he rivals DK. He's good, but he's not THAT good.
In the right hands, I'd consider Dedede *atleast* a top three of the heavies. If it came down to a tierlist, solid mid or even high mid.
I'd say he's number 3 behind Ganondorf and DK.
Speaking of tier lists, how long does it usually take for an "official" tier list to pop up? Meaning the one that's listed on the Smash wiki
A few months of data from pro matches. I was told to expect one in July.
Dedede was top of the UK meta for a good time. He is no slouch.
My fucking favorite ever was when I was playing Dorf online, my controller randomly stopped responding for a couple seconds or so, leading me to stand perfectly still right in my opponent's face like a boss as they countered twice, shielded, spotdodged, and then got smacked in the face when my panicked A button mashing finally triggered a jab.
They must've had no idea, I bet that was menacing as fuck.
Anyone interested in comp Smash I highly recommend you check out Melee GOML right now. Top 8 has had some fucking crazy shit go down and it's looking to potentially be the best tournament of 2019 just from all the hype. Better yet don't spoil yourself and check out the vods once it's all finished.
