I could see them doing a cold-open with a new DLC fighter, then introducing another as a "we've still got one thing to show you" stinger at the end. They did something like that in 2014, revealing the Mii Fighters during the Direct, ending with Palutena and Dark Pit, then showing off Pac-Man during a press event after the conference.
Knowing Nintendo they are going to wait to do a "wait just one more thing" at the end to do the smash reveal.
Well, yes they'd do that. Or, they make TWO reveals. One at the very start and one at the end.

I can't lie, a Dragon Quest rep or another FE character would likely be the least interesting thing in the world to me

Just like those purple and yellow chairs that hinted at Waluigi or Skull Kid, right?
Why can't people just wait? These "rumors" just start to get annoying past this point.

So why do are people against any Dragon Quest stuff again? The games are pretty good? Is it just because it's another JRPG?
Is Sakurai allowed to do anything without it being some hint at something? Sakurai stood in front of a car once, I think Forza is in Smash.
The fake smash ball is a game sphere, thus hinting at Josh Peck.
It's mainly a problem with Erdrick, he's the MOST forgettable Toriyama design ever. Mainly because he's interchangeable with at least five other Dragon Quest protagonists. And Crono. And like five Dragon Ball characters
I don't know if you've actually ever seen what the DQ protagonist look like (or even Dragon ball for that matter) if you think you can just replace them with one another. https://dragon-quest.org/images/9/92/Toriyama_DQ_Illustrations.png Granted, Toriyama does suffer from same face syndrome from time to time, but to say that Erdrick looks like every protagonist is silly. Might as well say Cloud and Shulk are the same because they're their blonde, young men with swords.
idk about anyone else, but Dragon Quest's composer has done some seriously sketchy stuff in the past. Doesn't change the character or franchise much, I know, but it still kinda feels icky.
Swordman number 24
That too. You can make swordsmen unique. But they just don't. There's no excuse for every Fire Emblem character save one being a variant of the sword lord.
There are more characters that punch and kick than there are sword users. "sword character" meme needs to die.
Is it really a meme when they just keep giving everyone who has a sword counters for no reason. Or how every Fire Emblem rep just kinda blurs together after a while. And I'm not shitting on Fire Emblem either, there are phenomenal designs they could pull from. But don't
The reason why a lot of the FE characters use swords, is because they typically use swords as their main weapons in their games. Also don't even say that all the FE characters are the same. Barring the Echos, every FE character use their swords completely different from each other: Marth uses his sword with swift and "elegant" strikes, Roy swings his sword with more ferocity than Marth, Ike is swings it like a fucking club, Robin is a Spellsword, and Corrin mixes both sword combat and dragon transformation into their move set.
Which is why a lot of people are pissed of with FE fighters, with the excetion of Ike, Corrin and Robin because they are different enough. They have an arsenal of potential equipments (lance, axe, dragon stone, bow, ect) but they all boil down to the same thing: Sword user with Down-B counter. If we are getting anther FE fighter to promote Three Houses, I just want to be anything that ain’t another fucking sword lord.
To say that all swords "look the same" is ignorant. You can easily call all the fist fighting all the same as well. "Man, all punch characters fight the same. All they do is, Punch Punch Kick and and Heavy Punch Heavy Punch"
It's not that he's a bad design, it's that we already have too many swordsmen to just get one that uses generic fire attacks that look like this when we have Roy, Ike and Robin, already: Sizzle Meanwhile, Crono can use the power of lightning to create a nuclear explosion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cN5h_UurfQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrmDrlgTr3Y If you take from his other techniques, Crono can also: Turn into a living rotor blade with his sword by swinging it fast enough to become a top Has had his teammates light him on fire to boost his power while being swung around by another teammate to turn into a burning human weapon with a sword Can create shockwaves on the ground by swinging his sword, fast enough (which Cloud can also do, and Ike can do in his games) Summon lightning (Though Erdrick can also do this.) Generate death rays made out of electron beams Spin around enemies so quickly while attacking them that they get dizzy Have his sword be covered in ice power generated by a teammate Can use his teammate's sword as a lightning rod Can jettison forward with his sword so quickly he becomes a comet By contrast, Erdrick can . . . . . . heal himself (which Crono can do), run away (which requires magic and Crono is too badass to do), put enemies to sleep, call lightning (which Crono can also do) and generate fire. Crono is just genuinely a way more interesting character and if Erdrick doesn't use his shield for any attacks, he'll be one of the least interesting movesets in the series, especially since the Links use their shields passively, already.
That's entirely different dimensions of comparing character design. Why not say "There are more humanoid characters than sword characters. Checkmate"
only sword fighter i want in this game is the one who wields a diamond sword
I mean, this is basically a fact in Smash Bros. Nearly all of them use one-handed broadswords or swing them as if they were one, and none of them dual wield. Kirby is basically the only one that does not fall into either category. There's nowhere near the diversity in sword fighting styles that you see from other fighting games featuring sword weapons.
That was my point. If you blindly judge a character based on what weapon they primarily use, you're being silly. Mario and Ryu both mainly kick, have an ground to air uppercut, and shoot fireballs. So surely they are the exact same character right?
Anime plus swords plus games that the given person hasn't played/isn't particularly popular in the west triggers people hard because they look at it and just see Fire Emblem. They look at a character and say "this man has a sword so he plays like marth".
Both Pits dual wield swords. Ike swords is a huge and he swings it with great force (As does Ganon). Meta Knight rapidly swings his sword with extreme speed. Shulk opens his sword up to reveal a beam for extra "oomph" and regularly swings it with both hands. Cloud's sword is ridiculously huge, but swings it like it weighs nothing. Do people not see these little nuances between the swords characters or are they just so blinded in their sword hate, they just completely ignore that maybe the weapon itself doesn't matter but how they use it?
To be honest, if we did get a DQ rep, I'd love to see a Slime so you can have a battle between Pikachu, Piranha Plant and a Slime for battle of the mooks.
