Does anyone else ever play with no armor exclusively? I just cant get into having any and getting rid of dodge, i feel like I have no movement options and I just cant have that, even if i just explode if poked with any medium weapon.
Same here. It's pretty fun and viable. Dodging and dancing around groups is great too because they have the tendency to hit each other, giving a lot of attack windows.
That's my idea of it, with enough movement options, no points spent on armor and getting dodge, you can get anything and basically any weapon is viable enough as long as you're aware of your surroundings and footwork
The billhook is basically the halberd in everything but damage but brings utility. It fucks up enemy movement and takes horsemen off their horses in one hit! It also takes up half the points that the halberd does so its a real deal right now.
My lightest armoured dodge builds are 1/1/0. Not having armour on the head is one-shot city and it can totally kill your momentum.
It's weird how before release all I thought was "yeah that looks like a fun little game, I'll pick it up"
and now all I think is "jesus christ i fucking love this game"
Is your name p.4 in the game? I swear I've seen the left character.
For me it's the rapier and Scoundrel.
Now some of you may think "Oh fuck it's a shitty rapier main." and yes; I am. I love the Scoundrel for the fucking mind games and last resorts you can play.
I bait people into running after me and once I turn the corner; and i'm out of sight, out goes the bear trap. It's hilarious watching them keel over. If i need to actually escape i'll toss down a fire bomb to
dissuade them.
But the true power in the rapier is the dodge mechanic with it. People genuinely think a rapier is pretty shit when going up against two+ people but i've been in situations where I can and have come out
on top of 3 people swarming me. Just the thrust juggling alone is worth it. Dodging itself is a skill to be learned. Being able to dodge just out of a 2h swing only to run in and thrust into their head is the
most gratuitous thing i've ever encountered in a game and i'm always greeted with a satisfactory "CHTUNK."

A lot of the upper tier oneshotters usually go right through light armor anyway, I feel.
You can't be one-shot to the body with at least light armour. It's true that a lot of the higher tier weapons will still one-shot the head, but that's all the heavy-hitting two-handers. An unarmoured head can be one-shot by things as low as the falchion or the axe.
Why did no one tell me frying pans were op. Been using a 3 frying pan loadout the entire day now, it evens works with horse

'Tis just a flesh wound.
Real warriors don't need helmets
Sure, if you like being one-shot by nearly every stabbing weapon in the game
maybe i'm just weird but i would rather protect my head by blocking and dodging effectively than compromise the armor in places where i'm more likely to get hit. everyone always goes for the head so it's easier to parry, but when someone goes for the legs it's because they're trying to catch me off-guard, and probably will.
There's plenty ways to protect your head besides armour.
need face paint in mordhau

I'm still getting the hang of the combat system, but regardless this game is fun all around. It's funny seeing the contrast of a huge battle in the middle of the map and then in a corner somewhere a group of friends and foes are gathered around a guy with a lute.
Right now I like to run around in nothing but a peasant cap and playing a lute in enemy territory. It gets a huge following of blood-thirsty enemies to run after me.
I suck ass at this game and it's still more fun than games I'm actually good at.
I literally cannot count how many times I have one-tapped the hundreds of Jon Snow cosplays, slippery rapier duelists, inexperienced open-faced hoplites, overconfident swordsmen, and various other foolish individuals who decided to not have any head protection at all.
It usually goes like this:
Encounter open-faced opponent.
Parry/lunge at them to force them on the defensive.
Morph a swing into a stab or vice versa aimed at head.
My attack connects and they drop dead.
You might look cooler without a helmet, but will your player corpse look that much better than anyone else?
how do i use the lute effectively i wanna blast some gr8 tunes while using my rapier to pwn noobs
My friend found this early on and I thought he was lying to me, I even posted in this thread to see if anybody knew about it but I couldn't find anything on it
Glad to see it's real
People fall a lot in this game.

I don't do it for the aesthetic, I prefer being mobile while the torso got an acceptable amount of protection. After dueling a lot I realized how easy it is to defend yourself against people tricking you as long as you're calm and focused. Not using a helmet during a group fight or against archers is understandable, but I believe situational awareness is essential to this game, like don't go alone, know where the enemies are and what's behind you, and time your blocks and dodges when you're certain it's not a trick; choose the fight wisely. Footwork is my biggest friend, because it keeps my character alive more than luck or flow. Most of the time when I don't even try hard during frontline I get around 20-5, but that's not because of how I fight, but where I am. Sometimes I even manage to dodge attacks the same much as I block them. I think if someone gets constantly killed for using less armour like no helmet, it's because they're not playing the right way. If some dude with a lute or other peasent loadout without any armour can kill groups of people, I see no issue with that guy's choice. I think they brought the "point system" for a reason, to balance between play styles and it is important that play styles fit the right player, and I found mine.
Besides, doesn't a bit of more danger make the game a whole lot more fun?
holy fuck the double headed axe
Why did I not use this before. I know it's a budget executioner sword, but the raw number of cheeky cosplayers I've fuckin'
DE-LEGGED and cut in' fuckin TWAIN
Just out of my curiosity, what weapons are you usually up against, and what weapons are you typically using?
I experimented with a variety of setups in duel servers. It can be tempting to forego some armor layers for aditional points/mobility, but my main goal is usually set with statistics in mind:
How will I fare against the most common loadouts?
Can I take at least one hit from most weapons?
What sort of role will I be playing?
What kind of back up plan do I have?
There are players that are skilled enough to do well with almost nothing at all for protection. My only thoughts aside from "wow, that guy is really good" is "I wonder how much better they could be doing with even light armor?"
It's worthwhile to have SOME head armor because if you're facing someone who's good with their stabs, it doesn't matter if you're smart with defense, they can drag-stab you in the head pretty reliably.
Source: I drag stab everyone who doesn't wear anything on their head with every weapon I use.
I wish I understood the tech of the game better. Years of casual mount and blade + chivalry have given me good enough gamesense to take on the bad players but I always end up choking the moment someone presses a strong offensive on me.
Dodge is my fucking bitch though even with a heavier build the circling potential is key
