the first few minutes made me think someone was bullshitting because the animations look like they're straight out of arma and I thought that it was just someone with stalker models in ArmA Then it came to the mutant stuff.
What anomalies in CoP spawn artifacts? Only those ones marked on the map, right?
Probably a frequent question around here, but any really good large mods for Stalker SoC? I have played it through multiple times but never really finished it, I think a overhauled experience will give me the push needed to see the end.
I'm currently playing through the Pripyat underpass mission in CoP, is it worth keeping your squad alive? Does it affect anything later on? I find it really frustrating because it feels like trial and error, especially later on when Monoliths start to spawn.
... It's not hard to keep them alive. And yes, if you don't want an ending screen describing how everyone was lost to the Zone you want them alive.
Played multiple times but never really finished it? You sounds like me. For real, a final portion of all STALKER games, and most mods, is absolute slog. Shooting hordes of Monolithians that take you down easily, even though you use similar armor and guns, is not a definition of fun. As for big mods - well, there is Solanka series, I recommend grabbing NS2016. There is also OGSE 0693, FOTOGRAF... Or you can try Doom's Mod Merge, a SHoC mod that inspired Call of Chernobyl project.
I'm gonna take a different tack to the rest and suggest AMK. It's not a massive overhaul, but it adds lots of extra cool stuff and is in my opinion one of the OG ShoC mods.
Big yes to AMK. I've been playing it again, it's such a great vanilla+ experience.
I just managed to do it, yeah it wasn't that bad. I just had some bad luck with enemy spawns here and there, nothing that a couple of quicksaves couldn't fix.
New badass in the Zone. OSV-96. Huge thanks to Roman Populik for animations. https://i.postimg.cc/h4FpF8Ms/XR-3-DA-2019-06-02-01-37-39-60.png
The mod that got me to actually get myself to the end was LURK.
It's only about 10 years, but I've finally managed to stick with a STALKER game. I always wanted to play STALKER from the first time I read about it in a PCGamer magazine ~02/03 and it sounded amazing. When the game finally came out, I never really got into it fully and never got fully into the sequels either. But a week or so ago I just decided to try CoP again and I've stuck with it and am enjoying it immensely. I realise I'm playing them out of order, but I'm okay with that. Although I feel I've probably spoilt myself starting with CoP, I booted up SHOC and it feel rough in comparison.
I feel the same, SOC was really rough compared to CoP, and I really like the open ended level layout for CoP as well. If there's one thing that SOC does ten times better than CoP though, it's the atmosphere of certain areas.Sure, CoP has its eerie moments, but it's nothing compared to the dread you have while exploring X-18 for the first time in SOC. Speaking of which, I'm almost done with CoP, after this i'm planning to start my modding journey with Call Of Chernobyl https://youtu.be/LzB1MY8tpHw I was wondering, do you guys recommend the mods for COC shown in this video? Increased Weapon Damage - Arsenal Overhaul - DoctorX Dynamic Faction Relations - DoctorX Questlines - Outfit Addon - Autumnal Winds - Smurth's Dynamic Hud
Anybody know which Call of Chernobyl version I should be using? I came back to play it recently, realized I'd uninstalled it at some point, and now it looks like there's a stable 1.4x version with a patch, and a more experimental 1.5 revision (that also comes in 64-bit) Information on it seems pretty sparse but all I'm looking for from CoC is the ability to play through Strelok's story with all of the goodies of CoP, and decent stability for a stalker game
I haven't touched Shadow of Chernobyl in fucking AGES and I'm wanting to do a replay. Whats the best mod or mods to use for it atm? Think last time i played through it I used the ABC mod or w/e it was called which is probably a sign of how long its been, I'm not sure whats considered good these days.
I've played it with this Starter Pack https://www.moddb.com/mods/starter-pack Included mods: Zone Reclamation Project - huge community effort of fixing bugs and adding some features which we're left out of the vanilla SoC, comes with a configurator. Old Weapons Renewal 3 for SoC - better looking sounding gun models Photo Realistic Zone - texture pack for ground, trees, structures etc Stalker Weather Overhaul - better looking weather and skyboxes STALKER Shaders MAX 1.06 - better looking shaders, adds depth of field, slight motion blur FOV Switcher v17 - Field of View switcher for stalker series, comes with instructions, works for other versions of the game
1.4.22 would be best, CoC 1.5 is in an unstable and poorly balanced state right now due to development taking a pause (hopefully not permanently?) CoC doesn't really feature a true storyline, it has some loose 'quests' that have you disable the brain scorcher, find some documents, and generally take you to different parts of the Zone and all though. Installing something like DoctorX Questlines helps a lot, plus something like Warfare for some extra spice. There's also plenty of mods that offer their own storylines like MLR and various Call of Misery based mods, but YMMV on those gameplay wise - Personally, I can't stand 'em.
Recently played through SoC and tried moving onto clear sky but the game just refuses to run. I've installed the community patch and tried fixes like running in compatibility mode but it won't start. I get a blackscreen, my resolution 'tries' changing. Then I get booted to the desktop, keeps happening despite my attempts. Has anyone else run into that issue with clear sky and if so, any known fixes for this issue? I've played CoP and with SoC recently finished I'd really like to complete the current trilogy of games.
If it makes you feel better, the community shitting on CS was pretty well-deserved, I wouldn't say you're missing much It played out more like an action game than the others and the extent of atmosphere in it were cool new graphical effects and minor annoyances like slowly walking through swamps and psy storms
Does the game paste anything to the clipboard when it crashes?
I get nothing at all, it just closes out after seemingly struggling to start/open a window for a couple of minutes. No window displaying a crash log or anything like that
the barometer for whether or not late-game STALKER will be fun to you is "do you enjoy 'war of attrition' FPS"; do you enjoy DOOM slaughtermaps? do you enjoy highest-difficulty Soldier of Fortune where using your shotgun causes eight enemies to spawn behind and in front of you? "yes" is not the wrong answer, by the way, I do enjoy both of those things because killing a shit-load of dudes is cool
I wasn't a fan of the ending of SoC because you can't really explore the most iconic areas of the Zone, after x-16 the game doesn't follow your pace anymore, you are forced to follow the game's pace, so it's a tour the force with endless waves of monoliths. I was really looking forward to the Red Forest, Pripyat and NPP but felt like I couldn't really adventure as I did before. I really hope CoP's ending will not be like that, i'm at Lab X-8 currently.
It's one of the biggest problems with late-game STALKER imo, especially SoC and Clear Sky. After a certain point you're led by the nose and basically have an obvious point of no return where you have no choice but to follow through.
Red Forest would've been way more effective with the usual sandbox/freeroam aspect you had with the previous areas, and as you approach the brain scorcher you start seeing thing that aren't there, the monster holograms etc in a way more randomized way (And well, the monolith base would be the same). I was very disappointed with how small and linear Pripyat was in SoC, The devs must've felt the same way since CoP's Pripyat is so much better. It's a shame you can't go to the amusement park again though. NPP also wasn't quite as I imagined it, I was expecting something more like this inside: https://youtu.be/CcDZtlm_pI0 While, aside from the Ractor 4 room which was pretty cool, it mostly was just another lab area similiar to the others. Not that it's bad looking or anything, i'm just saying this because other areas are so incredibly close to their real life counterparts, including the NPP's exterior
Been such a long time since I've played SoC but watching Chernobyl made me want to install again lol https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/109685/a704bf6d-ae69-4efd-b568-46b6e02f5b19/20190605_132417.jpg
