I've been getting the tingling feeling for jumping into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again I did download Dead Air, though I haven't installed it since I read that the next version is possibly on its way this summer. But then I heard that one of my best friends tried ShoC once, but kinda gave up on it and now I feel like wanting to give ShoC (and CoP) a spin too, as well as finding a suitable mod for my friend to use when she tries it again some time I also came to the realization that over the years I've become quite a stickler for consistency in games, which seems to make picking and choosing mods for STALKER quite difficult. Especially since so many mods assets allowing more and more mods to have an easier shot at HD-visuals, but with all the HD weapon mods and HD character mods, there always seems to be something that's left a bit off. Like having HD-weapon models and HD arm models (or the sausage fingers from CS&CoP), contrasted with character models from 2002. Or fixing the character models to a certain degree and then having a vanilla model pop by ever so often to say hello. The most common sight being HD first person models accompanied by janky animations along with inefficient weapon reloading techniques (latter being a pet peeve of mine). I'm fine with visual jank, but I much rather take it with an even drip.
Wish LURK hadn't kicked the bucket or else we could've had a full set of consistent models and animations that aren't the same weird janky garbage :/ it bothers me to no end seeing animations like the SKS bolt being slid forward by someone that's clearly never held an SKS before On top of that, I recognize a lot of the gunshot sounds in Stalker mods are ripped from decade past sound packs off of FPSBanana, from authors like Futon and ShaTT.
having proper gunplay that looks good in stalker will forever be a pipedream
give me RO2 / RS2 style recoil and sight misalignment and I'd cream tbh
I saw some footage of STALKER from 2004, and then found the 2004 STALKER trailer on the Dawn of War retail disk, which siad the game was coming in 2005. Amazing how little the game actually changed between 2004 and 2007, beyond improvements to lighting.
dead air is cool and all but I just really can't get into the bullshit of only a very small handful of vendors actually selling guns etc, just really fucks with the progression in a really shitty way imo
Soooort of. Judging by development builds, late-2004 is when they kind of 'soft-rebooted' the game's development and started redoing a ton of maps and story elements, as well as the slow removal of vehicles and a few other gameplay systems, I suspect through THQ's involvement. By about early 2006, again judging by development builds, SoC as we know it now was mostly complete. The only things they really did was translation work, some bugfix/balance changes, and the removal of Dead City and Darkscape before then and release. The lighting and R2 (DX9) renderer didn't actually change that much between 2005-2007. Most of it was finalized in late-2004 or so, though they actually removed a few of the more experimental renderer features after that point.
The first videos I think I ever watched about stalker were the "behind the game" videos released around 2004-5 I think. The released game is extremely different than those videos and I was a little disappointed that so much had actually changed from the time those videos were released to the game's release.
I adore those videos still. I still want that blur effect they showcased in the DX9 demo... All I know is that it's supposedly hooked up to r2_ls_bloom_speed but the command doesn't do anything.
Installed Call of Chernobyl to fill the hole left by Chernobyl ending. Gotta say its a damn good mod. Tweaking the weather / emissions / psi-storms is a great feature. Artifact hunting seems weird though. Its the same system as CoP but the drop rate is really low. I've only found 1 artifact, though I just picked up a good scanner so that might change
Just finished Call Of Pripyat, man, the ending was a breeze compared to SoC. It also helped that learning by my mistakes, I went there fully stocked with an endless amount of gauss rifle ammo. These are my results: As a reward for successfully completing his investigation, Degtyarev was offered a promotion to Colonel and a position of mission coordinator. He declined the opportunity and submitted a personal request to be sent to the Zone as the USS permanent observer. The information about the development of psi-devices, obtained by Degtyarev, alerted USS commanders. All the information on X-designated laboratories was removed from military archives and filed as Top Secret. All personnel working in the Zone were ordered to prevent the disclosure of information about the laboratories at any cost. Several experimental samples were made on the basis of technical documents for item 62. Following a series of test trials, it was decided not to go ahead with large scale deployment of the weapon due to the high cost of ammunition. Nonetheless, it would be reasonable to assume that further secret development of the Gauss rifle is ongoing Skadovsk became home to any and all who could reach it. Fierce stalkers resistance did not stop the bandits from making regular (and ultimately unsuccessful) attempts to establish their so-called "order" on the ship. Despite the ongoing struggle, the Skadovsk carried on its unique brand of life. With the destruction of the Bloodsucker Lair, it's unlikely that anything could significantly change the state of affairs on the Skadovsk. The old ship became a temporary center of stability in the ever-changing world that is the Zone. A fragile balance was reached between Freedom and Duty squads at Yanov Station. Tired of the endless struggle, fighters of both factions started leaving their squads and joining the free stalkers. The scientific expedition organized by Professors Hermann and Ozersky was a success. The data they collected facilitated the development of groundbreaking medicine and technology, which prompted the Ministry of Education to allocate additional funding for researching in the Zone. Garry's stories about the Army's fate scared stalkers away from Pripyat. The few who dared to venture into the city ran into inexplicable phenomena, which added further dark strokes to an already gloomy picture of the dead city. The area around Yanov station continues to attract growing numbers of stalkers. The lack of dangerous mutants and abundance of anomalous areas have led to the area being referred to as a "treasure trove" with increasing regularity. Rumors of Zulu's fate reached the leader of Duty, General Voronin. Counter to most expectations, Voronin decided to posthumously award Zulu with the Silver Shield, Duty's highest decoration. Vano headed off to the Freedom-controlled Military Warehouses, where his cheerful personality and optimism quickly earned him the popularity he merited. Ultimately, he took charge of a small group of researchers involved in investigating anomalous areas. A new group appeared in the Zone. They are well-trained, but their objectives are not known. Rumors say that they used to be Monolith fighters. Their leader is known as Strider. Senior Lieutenant Sokolov continued to take part in flying missions over the Zone. During one such recon flight over Limansk, his aircraft was shot down by mercenaries. Two weeks later, he was picked up by a patrol near the Cordon. Within a month of his rescue, Sokolov had left the Air Force, joining a civil airline instead. A group of stalkers was forced to seek shelter on Noah's old barge during a particularly powerful emission. When the barge was attacked by a horde of Snorks, stalkers were forced to concede that the barge was as good as a defense against mutants as anything they'd seen. Even more astonishing was a litter of Pseudodog puppies that Noah himself led into battle against the Snorks. Having overcome his alcoholism, Cardan left the Skadovsk. Stalkers said he went to look for his missing friends. Several days later he returned, suffering from wounds and radiation poisoning. As soon as his wounds healed, he left the Zone for the second and final time. Strelok passed on the information he obtained on this trip to the Chernobyl NPP to the USS commanders. This prompted the government to create a Scientific Institute for Research of the Chernobyl Anomalous Area. Strelok took up the position of Chief Scientist Consultant to the Institute. When Colonel Kovalsky, commander of the Stingray group, returned from the Zone, he was forced to explain the reasons for the failure of Operation Fairway. Following a dragged-out investigation and the brass' failed attempt to make him the fall guy, the Colonel was finally given an honorable discharge.
I've started playing Call Of Chernobyl with the mods i've posted in the previous page. It looks really good. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/216700/7893fa71-fd8b-453b-8311-f62ae5c5578a/S.T.A.L.K.E.R._ Call of Pripyat 08_06_2019 17_53_52.png Only issue is that I've had this nasty crash which made my graphic driver restart and messed up windows (Taskbar not loading, Windows+G not opening, Firefox displaying a blank window, Restart process showing a black screen with loading mouse icon) and I had to force-shut down my pc in order to reboot everything properly. I hope it was just a bad case of drivers getting stuck. I've moved to DX10 and seems to be more stable overall.
How are your artifact spawns? I have only found one so far but I am loving this mod
Hard to say, I haven't found any so far, I don't even have a detector yet. I've been mostly doing random mission to get some money, and I've also explored the darkscape since beta/unused levels are really interesting to me. As a side note, in the screenshot I posted above, I was looking for a stash (which was that dead guy you see), no enemy in sight. I died because of an anomaly before reaching the stash and had to reload, when I reloaded I was instantly attacked by two bloodsuckers and that made me jump. God bless random spawns.
Oh yeah the loading and saving in this mod is beautiful. I made it to Yantar and was able to find a friendly Duty group to take my sausage and 5.56 ammo (stuff I didn't need obv). We got bodied by a bandit party and when I reloaded everyone was hostile and suddenly a psi-storm rolled in. Beautiful mod A+
Just in case: Knockout!
I mostly lurk on this thread but I've been following the STALKER threads on Facepunch since '09 and it's been a great ride everyone
http://oi52.tinypic.com/x6c5mc.jpg Does anyone have the others?
This is the way it is with the Zone.
