fucking god damnit you called it
What I thought was funnier was the fact it was still just 4 choices and one of them sounds sarcastic
So, from the Wastelanders trailer, we've got bow and arrow: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/f4b31c3e-508a-42c0-b901-47da0ff7c0b0/image.png Panning for gold: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/3291cbe5-f375-4bb9-9d7c-53a183a3e419/image.png Dialogue options: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/c22d3946-d612-4264-9b2c-00b51ff06b60/image.png The crashed spacestation as a new settlement? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/dbe0c72d-6565-4a92-b275-9824e4117d25/image.png New tire-based raider armor: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/ccf94641-bf9d-4530-8fd4-679ca7be9a29/image.png Whatever the fuck this is: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/f161a370-2834-4e92-8b10-e10ed0086a7c/image.png And maybe classic big-ass plasma rifle: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110302/c342f1ba-5733-41c1-9062-5a81c5db152a/image.png
It's amazing that they've strayed so far from the series core values, that they're just now getting back to Fallout 4 levels of role-play.
I'm glad this free trail is a thing cause I've honestly been interested in 76 for a while now but there's no fuckin way I'm gonna buy it full price also the fucking hellfire armor being in 76 is making me so much more fuckin mad than the super secret enclave property advanced power armor being painted with a nuka cola quantum paint job and placed in the middle of a public theme park i get the armor is iconic but jesus fucking christ get your timeline shit together
this looks cool: https://puu.sh/DDWc6.png
Can't go past your player base cap after all.

God that brings me back, so glad they're working on the mod again
Enough I very unusually not doing this, but I created a petition to a least try to tell the Fallout 76's developers, to do something on delaying/cancelling mostly Nuclear Winter update. http://chng.it/5d7T48zJ
It depends how they handle it, if its more than simply "lol kill shit" it could be good, especially if it has out of gamemode consequences like unlocking stuff for the vault and giving you access to stuff. I would have preferred it to be more of a co-op gamemode with vault 51 acting as a sort of player hub but whatever, at least its content. NPC's could be good, if the "your with us or them" leads to faction based pvp/zone control mechanics etc it could also be neat, im cautiously optimistic
seems like maybe they could have waited until this year to release 76 since it will soon have shit everyone wanted like proper npcs and quests.
Welcome to 2019 gaming
Bethesda managed to get their conference overshadowed by a fan project. Why on earth do they think that people want a battle royale mode? They can't even balance regular PvP after dozens of patches, what makes them think they'll somehow manage it now? As for the rest of it, am I supposed to get excited when it's still the same group of talentless hacks making it? Jeez.
Firestorm heavily curates its weapon and vehicle selection compared to the game it's based on. Only some of the launch weapons per category and only one new weapon from the live service so far. So on top of starting with nothing, you can only find and be killed by a specific range of things from the base game. That being said, limiting selections like that feels like a really cheap way to handle balance because it goes against the essence of exploring and finding something special, especially when you can glance over at the main game and see all this unused content being trickled out. And that's about the only meaningful thing I can think to say about what's being promised. Dialogue is 'back' at four options with one outcome and nothing about the quest design in the game so far says choices or consequences are possible. On the lowest end of the scale there's a server full of people lining up to kill their Overseer's zombie husband. On the highest, you don't even slow the Scorchbeasts down. I don't see how that's going to change unless Bethesda are willing to shell out for more unreliable servers to represent alternate timelines.
See I'm probably going to reinstall Fo76 and give the battle royale mode a look. I'm not going to say they've made the right move in making a battle royale mode, but in ways of breathing life into their DOA game, it probably makes sense from their perspective. But I personally love looking at different battle royales, mainly to see how poorly they compare to the big three. It's nothing more than a novelty to me, and I can't imagine the larger userbase doesn't feel the same way. I mean, in what way does a round-by-round battle royale mode fit into this character-progression-driven RPG game? It's ridiculous, but at least I'm going to play a round or two of it. That's got to be a small win in their book.
It's funny, because last year was the year all the Battle Royale clones were expected to hit E3, and for the most part, they didn't. Yet here comes Bethesda, a whole year late to a dead trend.
I'll cut Bethesda a little slack for how lackluster 76 was on launch cause it was they're first online multiplayer game and the fact that they did that on the fucking creation engine is some serious techno wizardry But if they thought that adding an extremely lackluster battle royale mode on top of their already lackluster game would save it they've lost it
Yup, In Fallout new vegas we learn that colonel Autumn ordered the ED-E project to be scrapped and it's resources redirected towards the new Hellfire Armour project- and in Fallout 76, he hasn't even been born yet. I remember the first few times this happened, one or two small inconsistencies weren't a big deal, right?- but now it's starting to look less like Bethesda doesn't care about keeping things consistent, and more like they aren't even aware of any of the lore in their own IP.
Fallout 76 isn't meant to be a canon story entry, it's meant to be a collection of every piece of Fallout iconography so they can sell you Atom Store skins. Getting butthurt because they have shit that shouldn't exist yet is dumb, it's just a dumb spin off. It's not like there was a nuclear winter in Fallout lore before, and it'll probably never be brought up in the main series.
I think its best to treat 76 like Tactics, where its more or use psuedo-canon where certain, more important events are considered canon while some others aren't
I think you are half right here. Only, from where I'm sitting it looks like Bethesda thinks every fallout title is "meant to be a collection of every piece of Fallout iconography so they can sell you X". I'd be a lot more receptive to this idea if Fallout 4, a game that definitely was supposed to be a cannon entry, wasn't already full of shit like soda skinned power armour, rehashed collectables, rehashed random encounters, rehashed plot elements, and obligatory super mutants. It's starting to look like a trend. I fully expect to see constant references to elements of Fallout 76 in Fallout 5, but I guess we wont know for sure until they announce it in a few years time.
So I've tried the new battle royale mode, and it's not as shit as I was expecting honestly. You still have to rely on the bad aiming and dodgy hit detection, as well as deal with random lag spikes and long loading times but it works ok. It's a shame that nobody seems to want to use teamwork though, and it takes like 5 minutes to get into another match when you die.
Well you do need 52 players for a match, so you need to wait for previous match to end to play again.
I've been getting instantly matched into full lobbies all day. I don't think this is what fallout 76 needed but it's surprisingly fun and well made, they rebalanced everything from the ground up.
well, its actually really well done and surprisingly fun, building is a bit odd but other than that I really like how its been layed out.
So long, Facepunch Fallout thread! You were never a Facepunch staple, but fuck if you weren't one of the more active and humorous generals I browse. I hope to see you all posting on Knockout's fallout thread, because we got many more memes, bants and lore essays about ghoul children to make.
I will miss this. The Fallout and Elder Scrolls threads where how I became such a infamous user. I can't post on the new Knockout site because of its terrible android support but I'll always be watching. And know that whenever there is someone saying there's a lewd mod, I shall be there watching, waiting.
Never a Facepunch staple? It's been going solidly since Fallout 3 released.
