Anyone else kinda upset Invisible War flopped?
I wish it wasn't sliced up so much to put it on Xbox. PC port is pretty messy, has issues on modern systems.
Also I got so fucking confused by the plot. WTF IS GOING ON? So they combined all 3 endings of DX1 for the plot? How does that make any sense?
Also, universal ammo because:

I like the idea of it (No worrying about saving certain weapon's ammo) but the implementation is pretty bad. Your weapons reload instantaneously with no animation, and running out of ammo for one gun means running out of ammo for ALL guns, the flamer, stun baton, etc!
i really liked the invisible wars demo that i got on an oxm disc when i was a kid because of the physics but that's about it
So I finished Deus Ex 1 for the first time. Holy shit what a game. Deserves to be known as one of the best video games ever made. Such a long adventure, and yet you really feel free and able to do things your way.
But it's good to go back to Human Revolution too. Adam Jensen still is a better character then Denton. The latter is just a typical hard-ass with one-liners. Adam Jensen is a real bad-ass character with emotions and an actual personality. I just love Jensen so much. I'd be gay for him, honestly.
I skipped 2 because within the first hour, I realized the characters were all terrible. The protagonist is a nobody with no personality, and I'm already being asked to choose between two opposite sides, the leaders of which are both obviously shallow, short-sighted and unlikable. I gave up.
Can't wait to try out Mankind Divided.
I beat Mankind Divided a while back. Great game except for the underwhelming ending. Pretty sure everyone knows that.
Honestly, I think the world building and environments were amazing. My #1 non-ending complaint is how many times they make you take that fucking metro.
I also started playing Deus Ex 1 properly a few days ago for the first time and holy crap is it good. I played the Liberty Island mission and the beginning of New York a few times before but it never really hooked me. Now I'm in Paris and I'm silent running around the streets, knocking guards down left and right with my trusty baton and slicing up those cyborg guys with the Dragon Blade and it's fucking sick. Can't wait where the story goes next. And JC is a fucking badass.
I liked the story and the gameplay wasn't bad, but it was definitely dumbed down compared to the first. It'd be a lot better if a mod similar to Thief 3 Gold existed where it
merges levels together for less load screens
DE1 was similar to the first Mass Effect for me, in that the first mission really just didn't grab me but after pushing through both games went on to be favs
Thanks for letting me know about Thief 3 Gold. I'll have to check that out next time I play Thief 3.
Also, I'm one of those weirdos who always liked DXIW even when it first came out. DX1 is definitely way better of course, but I still liked DX2.
If you liked Thief 1 & 2, check out the Sneaky Upgrade for 3. It comes with a bunch of bug fixes, T3Gold and a few other mods including the Minimalist Project to make the
gameplay a little closer to the originals. Even has briefing videos in the style of Thief 1 and 2.
You really can't future-proof 3 the same way Newdark does with 1 & 2 though. You get more resolutions with the Sneaky Upgrade but any fps over 100 breaks lockpicking and
ladder climbing, it's really easy to notice how jerky the animations are at high framerates too.
IW took me a few tries to get into just like DX1, but the multiple-playstyles gameplay is still there. Passive biomods and some of the weapon mods were pretty cool too
the final boss was actually hilarious if you played non-lethal, I think it took me around 5 seconds to take him down
Yeah it's pretty clear he wasn't designed to be a final boss.. I threw a couple of grenades, shot him a bunch, next thing you know Jensen is all like "It's finished," queue new cutscenes lol
I'm sorry for resurrecting this thread after months of inactivity, but I do really need some advice here.
So yesterday I finally managed to beat the first and original Deus Ex, much to my joy.
However, I did some research and discovered that there are some overhaul mods for the game, and nowadays I'm more open about them than I was in the past.
The ones I found are:
Deus Ex: Nihilium
The Nameless Mod
2027
Does anyone have some feedback about them whatsoever?
Let me say in advance that The Nameless Mod sounds so far off the park of the main game I'm extremely sceptical about it and I already know and watched the shit out of the Malkavian mod
2027 is ok, no voice acting, passable plot, good exploration, taps into invisible war lore, weird russian alt history undertones.
The nameless mod is pretty wacky but its one of the best.
If u wanna get back to the vanilla game with big twists try revision or hx coop multiplayer mod (moddb is p quiet but its in development and testing versions are out there)
I love the "Prequal" games, but I really wish they'd just outright fess up to them being in their own continuity rather then making perilous connections to the original while having enough technological anachronisms to cause a headache.
Fucks sake, one thing I actually liked about Invisible War is that it did attempt (with mixed results) to follow up on events from the original. Yeah, it didn't do it nowhere as well and felt like a watered down experience (because it was) but I take it for what it is.
The Nameless Mod is some Deus Ex forum's massive in-joke to itself. It'd be like if someone here made a Half-Life mod where all the characters were forum posters and the plot and all the dialogue were community running gags. It's well put together, though, if you can get past that.
Pretty sure the prequels are a reboot to the franchise that will (hopefully) end up with original Deus Ex but with connections to the prequels.
I feel pretty bias because HR was my first intro to the Deus Ex series. I really enjoyed the game (even currently replaying it ) and I've been meaning to play the original for a while now. I knew a little about the original game like the the impact of the stinger at the end of HR but I remember hearing about some continuity issues between them.
Speaking of, isn't there a 3rd (or is it 4th?) game in development? I could of sworn I read about it somewhere.
That's what I loved about it honestly. I have never even been on that forum but all the in-joke stuff is very endearing to me because it feels so familiar somehow. Every community I've been in has had stuff like that, and the idea of an entire community going together to make a surprisingly massive mod just for fun is very impressive. If you don't like the in-jokes it's still a very good mod, and to me it actually made it better and added a lot of character.
See the problem is that everyones walking around with smartphones, tablets and the like and meanwhile OG-DeusEx has people using palm pilots.
There's no way to regress that far back in technology aside from it being part of some hip retro movement or "A wizard took our Ipads!". This is only the top of the stack here. You also have autoshotguns commonplace in HR/MD vs being super rare prototypes given only to above top secret soliders in OG-DX or how a black stealth helicopter is new prototype technology in OG-DX while in HR/MD you are commonly flown in via jet-copters.
Just stop pretending that HR/MD are anything but their own continuity. Hell, are there any Invisible War references in the game at all? I know we like to pretend to forget that game but it wasn't that awful, come on.
HR and MD are reboots meaning that it will eventually build up to deus ex, which might get its own remake. A reboot is going to have retcons and changes
I don't know if they'll go all out and remake the original. It kind of reminds me of the Metal Gear series, with Jensen as Denton's Naked Snake. It even has the same problem with the progress of technology where prequel MGS games often have way better tech than things further down the timeline.
Alright, so. I'm trying to play the original Deus Ex, and it's driving me up the fucking wall. At random times my gear will suddenly decide that I'm not allowed to unequip it, to the point where throwing it away leaves a duplicate in my hands and the original on the ground. This is all well and good when I've encountered the brief moment of being able to sneak up behind a guard thanks to the distraction powers of the crossbow, and I need to break a terrorist's spine with my extendable baton, only for nothing to happen when I try to equip said baton.
I've installed some sort of launcher mod, I think it was called Katie's because everyone said it's needed to fix some crippling issues. Can anyone list off anything else that I might need to install before I get this thing to work properly? Thanks.
Deus Ex
Might need both Deus Exe and Kentie's launcher. That's how I've always played, haven't had that equipment bug since
if you ever want to do another play through of Deus Ex, i highly recommend GMDX, it is a very well-done overhaul that expands on the original without watering it down at all or changing the original experience in ways that go against the spirit of deus ex.
honestly i recommend everyone do a play through with it. i will never stop shilling it.
Thank you, but I managed to finally beat Deus Ex specifically because I decided to play it with that mod installed on a fellow Facepuncher suggestion
Hey quick question. I'm enjoying my time with Deus Ex so far, using the GMDX mod, but is there a way to save Paul? I know you're supposed to help him survive the hotel raid but he just kinda heads off and disappears and when I end up at the MJ12 facility they mention he's dead.
At the hotel fight your way out and go out the front door.
Yeah, going out the window causes him to die, no matter what happened previously.
Wait, are we spoilering for a game older than some people on this forum?

I spoil anything that is spoilery no matter how old it is, out of courtesy. Not that much of a problem to spoil tag stuff imo.
