Yeah like I only just played Deus Ex for the first time earlier this summer, would have sucked to see that without spoilers. I've made my way through 1, Invisible War, Human Revolution: DX, and now I'm on Mankind Divided (with the DLC). After this I'm going to read the Icarus Effect book and play The Fall since it's only like 3 hours and I find the universe compelling. I really liked Deus Ex 1, Invisible War was disappointing (except for those ragdoll physics), I like a lot of Human Revolution (even in the DX the boss-fights are shit), and I like a lot of Mankind Divided as well (although there are some changes I dislike, like the hacking interface is garbage in MD).
I have to say, the only instance where the GMDX mod caught me completely off-guard was indeed the visit to Paul's apartment after JC decides to ditch UNATCO for good. In the vanilla game Paul always had a memetic aura around him due to how strong he is gameplay-wise and how much his character is against excessive violence. He's sto strong that in vanilla, given the right trigger, he'll be able to solo Liberty Island himself and kill all the invading UNATCO forces in his apartment, despite the fact he's claiming to be wounded and adamant about performing a lethal heroic sacrifice. In the GMD mod however it seems Paul it has been severely nerfed in the latter scenario, so I had to actually put a lot of effort into saving him. Especially since I was armed with non-lethal tools and weapons only
so as the Bob Page fan-club, i thought this place appropriate to ask: why is he so damn pretty in Mankind Divided did he just age astonishingly poorly or something
I also had trouble there cause I wasn't prepared for it at all. Had to make barricades with furniture and toss all my remaining grenades. I didn't have much ammo for the last few guys, so the only way to keep Paul from dying was to blind them with a fire extinguisher
More to the point, why the hell is hair is now black if they got it right in Human Revolution https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/225139/cdc5e253-e0d1-4070-b692-a2ef82ef3b96/BobPage2027.png
orchestrating a conspiracy to take absolute control over the world in a world full of conspiracies is one hell of a stressful job
I'm doing a non-lethal melee focused build in GMDX and I still keep the Dragon's Tooth on me since it breaks open a lot of doors and containers to minimize lockpick usage. I also minimize multi-tool usage by killing cameras and turrets with throwing knives since they literally bounce right back to you after they hit.
Because Mankind Divided is weird
It's 20 years before Deus Ex, he probably just dyed it black for fashion reasons.
Alternately, his merge with Walton Simons was complete.
So I've been thinking of replaying through Deus Ex for the billionth time (I beat it about once a year) but I was thinking of trying to do some sort of elective limitation to make the game more interesting. Something like beating it with only using the knife. I tried doing a no kill run but there are a few unfortunate instances (Anna Navarre, for instance) that FORCE you to kill people. Anyone know if there is a forum posting or resource with anyone whose tried some ideas?
You can avoid killing anna navarre every time it comes under consideration. You will have to use exploits to avoid Anna in the unatco HQ. The game will acknowgledge this though, Gunther has extra dialog if Anna survives even though it's an unintended path.
That's my problem is having to use noclip or something to get around her. If it was an ingame glitch that you could naturally cause, I'd be fine with it but having to noclip just ruins the feeling for me
That makes me wonder if any of the logs change (they probably don't since its unintended) about Gunther.
Honestly, I personally want an "Invisible War Done Right" more then anything else...
Invisible War done right is basically just Human Revolutions, tbh.
It was unpolished, but overall I like IWs story more then HRs. I find the fifth element sorta theming kinda neat, but overall I am let down by the very claustrophobic map design and some bone-headed decisions to make porting the gameplay to console 1:1.
mostly i just want the beginnings of the Omar to show up in the sequel to MD, they're cool as hell
It would, except it also woulden't make sense. The Omar use biomods, the next generation of augmentation tech after nanotech. Neither of which are even in the prototype phase in MD, and Nanotech is in the prototype phase in DX
They are, though. Nanotech is mentioned in news articles claiming it will be a successor to augmentation that won't turn people insane.
Omar only came about in IW due to the world collapse, but retconning in a bunch of Russian Borgs would be neat. I'd also laugh my ass off if they decide to tie in that silly scene in Area 51 where Bob Page sends down the man who killed your father by having him refer to Jensen.
I'd always assumed that the Dentons were grown in those tanks in Area 51 and their families and possibly memories were all set ups to an extent. And on the arrival of Jensen and his specialness, I'd come to assume that the Dentons were specifically clone of Jensen, Big Boss -> Solid Snake-style.
Let's also not forget about the fan theory that would see Adam Jensen literally becoming Walton Simons at the end of his own trilogy
from what we know, Paul was a natural born child in the year of 2018, with JC being a cloned embryo implanted into Paul's mother as a part of an ostensible "fertility research program" secretly run by MJ12. By the time HR rolls around in 2027, Paul was already 9 years old. JC Denton, however, wouldn't be born for another 2 years, in 2029. If anything, JC would be the one to receive some of Adam's mojo.
which would make Alex D a clone of a clone of a genetic anomaly, which would explain why he's such a fuckin goober and no one likes him
Jensen's 'mysterious surgery' where the Illuminati some unknown group slapped a bunch of experimental augments in him would be a perfect opportunity to grab some genetic samples for dastardly experiments.
Hold on, what? Is there a video of the extra dialogue? I never noticed it, or at least I was not paying attention enough
So after repeatedly restarting the game with different mod configurations I found that GMDX seemed to be the best experience. The AI was far smarter, yet you were made far more powerful as well. The only thing that kinda miffed me was the PS20 only doing 25 with GMDX damage and Shifter giving it 75. I did a bit of reading and it turns out the PS20 wasn't always completely useless in vanilla. Prior to the "1.112fm" patch the thing did 40 damage, which made it fully capable of nuking robots and doors/containers alike. After said patch for some cock-eyed reason they reduced it to eight whole points of damage, literally less than a standard pistol. Why on God's green Earth did they do that is what I want to know. Did they just not want you to use it at all due to balancing issues or something?
Sorry to necro-double a thread, but is there any explanation as to the nonsense that the MIB sometimes say? As cool as they sound it's slightly terrifying. Do their physio-pharm augs have a side-effect of episodic dementia or something? "Cold. Cold and dark. It goes on forever." "Some of these people are androids. Watch the way they move." "We'll never be able to separate out the hybrids."
I can only assume they are random and cryptic quotes unrelated to the game's plot the developers wanted to add for fun, as those enemies are literally mysterious, government-sanctioned Men in Black. The original Deus Ex is filled with lines and easter eggs concerning all the kinds of conspiracy theories, after all
