If I get into the beta, then goodbye to the rest of my summer holidays
You know what I'd like to do once all the Meet the Teams are out for Source Film Maker? Make a "Meet the Director." I'm assuming we could import the director model made by the same guy who made the Civilian, and I can fake a french accent (poorly, but still). By using each short yet with different camera angles, I could show an interview with the Director and show how he filmed it, along with parts of their interview. I find the best part being that he is actually being interviewed by Ms. Pauling [sp]before she shoots him, during the Saxxy comic[/sp]. I don't want to put in Meet the Medic, as it kinda doesn't fit the interview format, and I really only want to use the opening to Meet the Pyro (can be explained away as the director didn't want to deal with the pyro and his insanity). Is this too risky for a non-SFM user? I'd like to attempt at least the Director interview parts when I get it, and see where I go from there.

I'm sorry to say but I think this is the first sign of valve ditching XP, so you're going to need to upgrade sometime in the future. I know it may be hard because you can't afford the hardware or the OS itself but if you want the cheapest way to get windows 7, Microsoft have some student deals that you can purchase - or even better you can get the CD off the friend who may allow you to use the key.

I would believe the steam update that removed compatibility with "XP SP1" was the first sign of Valve ditching XP, but I believe the point is the same; 7 is the best version of Windows right now, and it would not be bad to upgrade. I'm pretty sure that, when 8 is released, 7 will be released cheaper (or taken off the shelves, I cannot dissuade that possibility.)

7 won't be taken off shelves, as far as I'm aware Microsoft will just have windows 8 alongside it with store clerks explaining to people what the difference is.
Valve - dare I say it, with episode 3 and the new source engine probably won't have XP support, because XP is holding many developers back making sure everything works with the ancient operating system.
