i love how well heavy's facial expressions transferred over to medic. glad to see you got it working max (so now we don't have "meet the blob")
I would have liked to completely retarget the animation so it kept the medic's poportions but I have no idea how I could even go about that
If somehow i get source film maker i'm going to make remake of Meet The Spycrab :v:
Is the syncing hard to do? I mean, I know that each character is one take, but do you see the other chars when you do each take?
Yeah you see the other characters, but the hard things is really to avoid clipping through the other puppets, especially when running in groups (1:05 in my video). You have to consider that they don't run at the same speed. Ofcourse you can just tap "W" and match their running speed, but it will make their running animation really ugly. You might also be able to notice the quicker characters not going directly in line with the others, but running in a circle. You can also see at 0:30 that the Spy and Scout run at the same speed. I had to edit the Scout's timescale to match the Spy's, and then drag it a bit back and forth to make them run besides each other.
Are you in the beta yet? If not send that vid as an example of your work.
I sent them this (WIP of Meet the Family) last night. I haven't got a response yet.

Care to share how you made the medic actually with the Heavys animations?
Wait, where do you activate the keys?
Guys, everytime I try and launch SFM it says "DOTA2/gameinfo.txt missing" and it doesn't launch.
WHAT DO.
When you email Valve asking for keys, you have to use add new game in Steam's client.

Solved it, just needed to rename the dota 2 folder to DOTA2.

you might have to redo the animation completely. the animation points are probably constrained to be a certain distance away from their "parents." since heavy is so big those points fit his skeleton only.
Here are some I've made so far:

The faceposing/lipsync got a bit fuzzy in the third one.

I'm surprised how accurate the lipsynch was in the Heavy one.
I'm in the beta, but I keep getting a connection timeout when I try to download SFM. Anyone had that?

Yeah, just keep retrying.
So, I never really realized just how much work goings into choreographing a music video.
I've spent the past hour or so choreographing a music video I intend to make, once SFM is public and allows for HL2 / custom content, for the song "Deliverance" by Opeth.
I'm currently at 4:30, and have over four pages written out. Note that I'm not a professional choreographer by any means (I've never done it before, actually :v:), and all I am doing is basically writing down the timeline of camera shots, how the camera changes shots, what all is in the shots, stuff like that.
This is going to be a big-ass document when I'm done, seeing as the song itself is 13 minutes long.
I am currently taking a break, and am going to go into Garry's Mod and storyboard what I have written out so far. I should have plenty of time before I can begin actually making this thing, so I can take my time and get as much preparation as I need for this, I think. :v:

Maybe you shouldn't start with a thirteen minute song. I mean yeah, it would be a miraculous thing to see, but start with like a two or three minute song to get your bearings and work your way up.

yes yes yes yes yes
i can't stress this enough: start small
I agree with both of you.
This won't be my very first thing I do with it, though. Just my first product intended for release.
There will be many asinine and stupid test projects to get the hang of everything, first. :v:

What he said, I made a 6 minute movie right out the gate and it shows.
Take your time.

First thing I made with SFM. I think I'm getting the hang of the controls :v:
