The most important thing I do is to mouth what the actors are normally saying in an audio clip and exaggerate it to the highest degree. David Hayter slurs alot of his words so I like to add in a few little details to accentuate that point.
I first block out the basic phonetic structure of the dialogue by root animations and then just keep scrubbing the animation with little tweaks here and there. I spend roughly an hour on each audio clip for facial animation alone. Smoothing out the interpolations does a nasty number on facial animation so you have to keep compensating for the loss that happens every time you smooth it out.
Also, another thing I've noticed recently is that people COMPLETELY neglect the mid facial sliders, these can help bring some life into your facial animations. Little details like the nostrils flaring and darting eyes can really spice up an otherwise boring animation.

This was done very quickly and is kind of janky, because a bunch of technical tricks I wanted to try (jamming chunks of multiple maps into one map file) didn't quite work out. Also, for some reason, Issac refused to IK Rig even after rigging previously. Ah well. Live 'n' learn!

Wow, that's my video! I JUST NOW uploaded it and you beat me to posting it! Good job.
This is the second video I ever made. I'm still pretty garbage at animating characters but as you can see I like putting thoughts into editing, musical cues, camera work, etc. When I posted the first one, a lot of people left comments asking for a sequel (of course since I left it on a cliffhanger heh) so I had fun making this one over the last couple of months. I will be taking a LONGGGG break from SFM for a while... time to get back to actual games.
As I wrote in the video description, there actually was a final scene to this video, but it required another map so it ended up as a separate video. Splicing the two together into one left it with a huge overall quality loss.... it lost its color and was blurry all around. I'm a stickler for quality so I'll upload this part first, then after people have had a chance to watch this, I'll upload the final scene after a few days. The final scene just alludes to some possible future installments, so don't worry, you're not missing out on any action or anything.
