Possible suggestion. Could there be a way to subscribe to an item via email? Given that custom mods tend to change a lot, either based on user suggestion or to fix errors with the first release, it would be nice to get a notification when they post an update if you're subscribed.
Perhaps with a nice little section in your account showing your subscriptions alongside a favorites section.
See what Miz thinks, we have a mail server installed so I guess it might be possible.

If not it wouldn't be a huge deal. I'd hate for someone to go through unnecessary stress adding a feature that isn't required to keep the site from falling apart.
That being said I spotted some typos, grammatical errors, and small parts that could worded a little differently on the upload page:
Submission guidelines:
Items or content that fall within multiple categories must be selected into the most suitable category (eg. specific model animtion will fall under "Exported Animations").
Keywords for your submission should be related to the submission, this allows for better searching on the user end.
If the submission contains Adult content it must be marked as it upon submission, failure to do so will result in the submission being deleted and your account suspended from the site.
Submissions must be tested and working with SFM before being submitted, if the model you are uploading has broken eyes or a bad rig do not submit it as its incompatible with SFM.
Submissions must have a license type selected, by default all submissions are submitted under Do What The Fuck You Want To Public License (WTFPL).
Submissions must be your own work, if they are not credit the original author and select the assocated license with the work.
Terms:
All files are uploaded by the site users, files found on the site are distributed at the uploaders discretion, this site does not take any responsibility over the files uploaded.
This site runs a report system, files can be reported freely and if found violating the above guidelines the submission maybe removed from the site and account suspension put in place.
A brief rewrite:
Submission Guidelines:
Items or content that fall within multiple categories must be assigned to the most suitable category available (eg. specific model animation will fall under "Exported Animations").
Keywords should be related to the submission, this allows for better searching on the user end.
If the submission contains Adult content it must be marked as such upon submission. Failure to do so will result in the submission being deleted and your account suspended from the site.
Submissions must be tested and working with Source Filmmaker before being submitted. If the model you are uploading has broken eyes or a bad rig do not submit it, as this means it is incompatible with Source Filmmaker.
Submissions must have a license type selected. By default all submissions are submitted under Do What The Fuck You Want To Public License (WTFPL).
Submissions should be your own work. If they are not, make sure to credit the original author and select the appropriate license for the work.

All files are uploaded by the site's users. Files found on the site are distributed at the uploader's discretion. This site does not take any responsibility over the files uploaded.
This site runs a report system. Files can be reported freely and if a submission is found violating the above guidelines it may be removed from the site and the associated account suspended.
Two personal niggles of mine in there that aren't as major. The first being on something official, where you're typing things out and being the voice of the site, you should probably refer to Source Filmmaker as Source Filmmaker rather than SFM everywhere.
The second being I'd suggest changing your default license name. "Do What The Fuck You Want To Public License" i a fun inside joke, but it sort of lowers the professionalism of the site somewhat (unless that was just a temporary name?).
Loving the site thus far though!
Edit:
Checking the text in other areas of the site (sort of acting as a spell/grammar checker).
The box on the right of every page uses the term "use" a little too much in only a few sentences. That and there isn't much punctuation so it's an incredibly long unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic.
Before:
This site was created because of the wide demand of a universal place for users to share their creations and assets with other users to use in Source Filmmaker.
Here users can upload and share their resources relating to Valve's storytelling tool Source Filmmaker allowing anyone else to use them.
After:
This site was created due to the wide demand for a universal place for people to share their creations and assets with others, to use in Source Filmmaker.
Here users can upload and share their resources relating to Valve's storytelling tool Source Filmmaker, allowing visitors to the site to use them in their own creations.
This one might just be me, but I feel that "what license should I pick" could sound better as "which license should I select".
Well, that's all the major text on the site, so other than that I have no more suggestions for the text.
My final suggestion overall would be to perhaps add an FAQ page incorporating the important questions listed and solved in the SFM FAQ thread and similar threads.
Edit: It seems that "The SFM Community Resource Depo" still says depo while the rest of the site now says depot. Just another fix I noticed.

Also finished implementing simple commenting system.

Might start getting clustered with a lot of comments.
Perhaps alternate some colored bands like this?

Edit: I refreshed the site multiple times, but it still says "The SFM Community Resource Depo" rather than Depot.
You've probably already thought of this, so forgive me if I seem stupid for suggesting, but it might be worth making the names/avatars in the username clickable.
I was thinking something like this:

User name and avatars will link to 'soon to be created' user page.
User name and avatars will link to 'soon to be created' user page.
Oh awesome!
I was hoping something like that would be done, but I felt suggesting a user page might be asking for too much if you had no plans of adding one.
I look forward to it!
we needs moar maps!

We are but its being made mainly so it can list their submissions and such.
How big submissions can be?
Because some character packs can be up to 300 mb
It'd be great if you could extend it to ~300 or make submission have multiple parts, up to 100mb each.

Still being considered, we're aware that some huge prop packs and that can end up being pretty large but as the main file server has a 2tb HDD we've got enough space to toy with the limits.
For now there isn't any fully set in stone.

300mb for a pack? That sounds pretty steep. I can't reference a time when I've downloaded a model pack that large.
To make things easier on users I'd suggest doing packs in the same way that the Steam Workshop does it, by making each individual model an unique submission, then grouping them together afterward through the website.
That way people who only want one prop don't have to download the whole pack, file are uploaded in small quantities, and if need be, someone can show of each prop with it's own fancy page.
Looking forward to further updates guys!

Yes it's very rare, but possible. And if you are talking about individual submission then how do you imagine furniture pack? Each chair as a separate model? That is going to flood the site.
File limits sometimes can be really cruel especially when it comes to big packs. But since there is *.zip enforcement 150mb can be enough. But I am more than sure that someone would make a bigger submission.

It doesn't seem flooding to me?
It's supposed to be a catalogue of items to use in projects. A user shouldn't have to download a 300mb pack just to use a single model.
Like a prop department and such.
I get what you're saying. But I've released packs before (The Meet the Medic props for example), but even then I can't imagine anyone releasing a pack in excess of that. And with that I'd be prepared to sort them individually.
Giving each prop it's own submission allows things to be organized properly, and ultimately gives the uploader more control over his or her content. There's a reason Valve does packs the way they do.

Back-end is configured to handle up to 1gb uploads ( images and file together ). And I think on actually leaving it that way, not sure about how Reag feels about that limit.
Damn straight, I can't wait for the website to go up! :)
I'm a filmmaker (AKA, CG guy.) and I can make you a demonstration video if you like. Also, what programming language is this? CSS?

CSS, programming language...

Not to be rude but CSS is markup much like html, its not a programming language.
And to answer your question the site is done in php with some of the backend in C#.

OH SHIT. Yeah I know CSS isn't a programming language but last time I built a website was 2 years ago. It seems I've forgotten everything.

Dont think theres a way to get them working, unless you recompile them with the earlier version of source

Ah! I've missed this thread. My internet is terrible at the moment and it wont be fixed for several days hence why I haven't posted a reply to this update yet!
Anywho, looking good.
The only difference I seem to notice is the description font?
Any particular reason why that would be the one major thing to not be correct?
Seems like something trivial.
As DP Films said, gold for the title might be interesting, thought due to the use of gold as the download link it could possible be overkill.
Going back to my earlier suggestion about giving the comment areas some sort of colored banding, I'm starting to think perhaps the item pages themselves could use some of this too.
The title, uploader, description, tags and download links all sort of cluster together. They could perhaps use some subtle colored backgrounds to their box to help separate them?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
