^ This. I would never pay for VIP to a video festival that wont have any appearance in any Con or any publicity. Most reasons people join video festival is the job opportunities that follow. The prize is pretty much second. If you get a booth at a Con like Siggraph 2012 which is a Computer Animation Festival that would be cool. But Siggraph 2012 in next month so not enough time.

I wonder why OP has not gotten back to us to answer some questions... Now I am a little skeptical about this...

I would enter if it was official, and didn't look like a scam. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind be an unofficial, no scam version.
yeah, what the heck are we paying for with entry fees? and whats the point of having to cram the sfm logo at the end?
yeah, what the heck are we paying for with entry fees? and whats the point of having to cram the sfm logo at the end?
I would like to address some of the negativity, as well as answer all of the questions that have been asked regarding the Source Film Festival. 1st, the VIP Membership was originally planned to be like the normal entry-price you pay at other festivals, it was not for participants, but for "attendees". It was more going to be a donate & support, and if you do you get additional things. This has since been dropped. The $10 fee for submitting additional videos, was simply to discourage people from submitting tons of small videos, and instead have them focus on a much larger scale. This entire thing is not meant to be a submit to win a prize, but a submit your best work and get the recognition for your efforts. This festival has grown in popularity rapidly, and we have been in talks about actually having a physical screening of the films. Having the SFM logo at the end is simply to show that it was created with the SFM and was something we decided in the beginning would be nice to have. It really was not, and is not supposed to be a hindrance to people. This festival is the first of what will hopefully be many. It will be an annual festival, showcasing the very best in what the Source Filmmaker can do. It has received interest from certain Valve employees, whether or not anything comes of it through an official Valve channel waits to be seen. This is not a scam, we really don't want your money, we want talented movie makers to be recognized for their abilities. These are your films, we are not trying to steal them as someone suggested above, we will never have the original files, we will not be taking credit for your talent. Hopefully this post will shed some light on why we are doing this festival, and quell the naysayers who think it is a scam.
we really don't want your money
Then don't ask for it. The $10 "fee" for adding additional videos is still ridiculous.
Then don't ask for it. The $10 "fee" for adding additional videos is still ridiculous.
That's why its now removed.
I would still never participate in anything unofficial like this... but thats just me.
if you aren't valve your recognition means nothing to me, nooothhiiinng! :v:
Thanks for answering those questions. Look guys, I really doubt anything bad will come from this, its not like you will enter into this and something bad is going to happen to you.
What's the policy on trailers? Like, if someone's working on a big and (what they perceive to be) high quality video, does releasing a short teaser or trailer break the exclusivity thing if we choose to make a video exclusive to the festival?
Thanks for answering those questions. Now the "fees" issue has been cleared up, I don't see why anyone shouldn't participate.

Marking it as exclusive simply let's us know you are using the festival as the debut release.

If I even submit a film that is.
Thanks for clearing it up! The festival is a great idea; it was just the lack of information and the VIP thing that made me have second thoughts, but it's all good now! I hope it will live up to its fullest potential, because it has a lot! :)
So, no copyrighted content in the submission? Hmm, it will be difficult to get something up from scratch.

A word of advice, if you're going to try to establish a new festival for a three week old program, maybe bite off a little lesss.
So the charges are gone. Nothing left to argue about. On a side note, I doubt anyone would be pissed; per se, if you had a donation box of sorts.
I personally suggest starting a Kickstarter to actually have some sort of showing somewhere, or you could run on donations too.
