I've progressed further in my video, and I'm starting the next shot. Instead of recording in a first person camera, I've decided to animate it all myself. Viewmodel, camera and everything. I was wondering if anything seems off compared to how things actually look in first person. Is the camera too high/low? Is the scattergun too far/close to the camera? How is the FOV?
It looks exactly like the first person view. But why do you want to animate it yourself, if the difference is neglect-able...
Finished my bar scene build. I'll release the custom made props when I finish my project.

But I'm still looking for a catchy name for the bar. I came up with 'The Drinking Wrench'. Not very creative :v:.

So anyone got a name? It's eventually going to be implemented into a glass-in-lead window!

The reason why I'm doing this is because the mouse is very jumpy in terms of movement and looking, and the camera follows a straight path, no bobbing up and down at all. I want it to be a mix of how it will look if you are running IRL, plus a bit of in-game movement (velocity, bobbing)

"The Shot Spot"
Shot of whiskey? And it's a gunshot too, so that fits the TF2 universe, right?
Here's a quick/dirty animation showing off the awesome wheel/frame animations FloaterTWO did for this port. He's really targeting this release for SFM use with the prebaked sequences, so I hope it gets some better treatment then this once it's released.

Great lighting! Though some spots are REAL, REAL dark... I would personally recommend a tad more of ambient light, but that depends on the mood of your project, of course.

[del]Is he also doing train cars with that? Or just the engine?[/del]
Nevermind, stalked his posts and found my answer. :v:

Dammit, i got distracted from animating and did some lighting
I got jelly of BattleField 4's water shading so i decided to get back to work on the source water project I was working on for SFM

It's going in tip-top shape :D
BTW People here's a crappy test render w/lighting effects. I am wondering if there is anything robotic about the animations. Is the arm too close/too far? Is the reaction time unnatural? I'm going to remove the Pyro, that was just something left over from early staging :D

Seems fine to me, but add a bit more overlap too the animation.
Day 2. Still rough. Started some blocking and more animation.

This looks amazing! You would be a legend among mortals if you released it after you've done your project!
As for names... I would give it a name that is more befitting to the mood of the place, rather than what it is used as by trade. I get a film-noir vibe from this, so perhaps naming it after an old movie would add to the coolness (The Maltese Falcon, The Scarlet Street, The Lodger, The Fallen Sparrow).
There's a list of film-noir movies, which also happen to double as cool bar names, here:

I understand if this post comes a bit late. I just wanted to comment on the awesomeness of this scene :-)

Why not the Southern Hospitality?

Thanks for the tips. But I already got a name, which I think is very catchy.

You guys like SFM glitches right? No, I did not do that on purpose SFM did it at the very end of the scene.

Congrats, this happens to everyone. It's the IK disabling itself after the clip has ended.

Yeah, he's an independent black woman and he don't need no man. Mmhmm.
*implying that gamer is sassy*
I love SFM glitches, they are fun to watch. Then I remember my hatred for them once I realize I'm going to have to fix it somehow.

Don'tcha just love spending hours on a single shot compositing in AE? Especially for a test

I'm not satisfied with the second one and I need to separate their vtfs. I guess I'm going to make more.

does this look believable? Like in terms of speed and shit. Supposed to be on an asteroid.

It's nice, but very stiff. It's more likely they hop a little, your animation is very linear. Maybe some inspiration on how they walk on the moon (walk at 0:45) :

well my thinking was that it would be quite different from walking on the moon. The moon has a lot more gravity than an asteroid would.. allowing them to hop around like that and still keep composure. I figured walking on an asteroid would end up being more like a space walk on the international space station or something... very slow and calculated.

May I know how did you make the bridge ?
May I know how did you make the bridge ?
its a particle effect.
I've decided to try entering the saxxy's this year. I quickly got a pencil and paper, wrote the scenario down. I quickly made a map in Hammer, setup some props in SFM. And did some camera angles.
