The smooth and realistic animation in the scene with scout being thrown to the back of the Campervan, is just too Beautiful <3 ;_;
Well, remember McVee has got a solid 10 years of experience behind him, including a few at BioWare. Then it becomes inspirational instead :D
(also if that might make you feel better 15 people worked on this total)
For me it's sorta reassuring, like 'Oh, look: I can do very good stuff like this if I try hard enough!'
LOL long winded! One by one I will convert people to the dark side, the .pfm side...
The only way around that is 'Convert your workflow to PFM, have stunning visuals, and get a 1 TB HDD free!" :D
Seriously, this just makes me feel so tiny, like I'm on the ground looking up at the stars. I've been working on a big project myself, and now seeing something as professional as yours, with animations that good... I mean, my work started in like, May or June, and yours in January, but still.. What's a guy to do?
Do your video, seriously, there's no other way around that :)
Amazing work! I'm wondering if the animation is done by hand or by motion capture like Practical Problems? Either way it looks stunning!
Beautiful. Can we get a bit of a synopsis to tell us what it's all about?
It's an interesting thing about seeing work that's better than your own, it can make you feel de-motivated and re-motivated at the same time. Personally I think it's good to feel humbled every once in a while as long as you're able to turn that around and use it as motivation.
the animations and cinematography are good and all... but i think what i'm actually most interested in with this project is the rendering method because the quality here is just remarkable.
And apparently that is all thanks to you. I take it there is a "long winded" tutorial or something somewhere? I NEED to check it out.

From what i can gather, BLU team are trying to drive a train (filled with explosives?) into an important RED building, so Scout has to try and stop the train before it reaches its destination.

It can be a cool gamemode actually; like a more exciting payload mode.
Also, i hate to be "that guy" but:

Stop using the TF2 fonts for things like that please...

Could have used something more cartoony for the texture here, and something else than Arial.
But it's still an amazing trailer, can't wait to see the complete shot.
And of couse, here comes the box rain...

Only if there's comic sans on the walls.
Man, that was like...
wooooow.
On par with valve sfm videos, jesus.
I have the same tools these guys do, but I watch this video and I can think is, "how the f*ck did they do that?"
Awesome vid.

I don't understand, why wouldn't the TF2 font be appropriate for that?
no, lol
The TF2 font is actually very versatile, it's not like completely flashy and overly complex in its design and nor is it completely generic and boring.
As for the sign, you would expect road signs to have simplest fonts that are easy to read, right? Road signs don't need Islamic calligraphy on them, dude.

Yeah you will! You just gotta keep trying! By the way, I can't wait for this to come out. It's gonna be amazing.

This TF2 font is already used in game in the HUD elements and was created for that; do you see any textures (by textures i mean posters and trademarks made by Valve) in-game that use this font?
Even for a small logo that you don't even see directly on the TF2's Mac trailer, Valve used a pretty nice ass font:

Sure you can use it but for things more important like titles in a video or such. A handwritted plan could be cool, since the soldier already put his name on the plan like that.

Islamic calligraphy heh? Of course not, but using a cheap-ass and ugly font like Arial is meh imo. How 'bout using the official font of the U.S. roadsigns mmm?
Once again, sorry to be annoying but i just want to be constructive, i'm a graphic designer and when i see things like that, it just make me sad cause picking a ugly font even for a shot of 1 second, everyone can do it. But making the small details more sexy and more "unique" by selecting some-well mades (and the rights) typefaces (or by writing the words by hand) is something more difficult.
Teach us secrets please.
Can I be this good please?!
get like 14 other equally experienced people and yes you can
people need to remember this isn't just a one man project, it's a whole team of people
doesn't make it any less impressive, though.
I'm sure anybody can reach this level of awesomeness one day with a little patience and love for the work you do. It's hard to not feel like an insignificant turd when watching this (I keep making this mistake) but you need to remember that the people who made this are humans just like you. Also there are 15~ish people working on this? Comparing yourself to the sum of a large group of people is just silly. I compare myself to Pixar movies sometimes which is just incredibly stupid of me. There is absolutely no reason that you can't be pro one day if you try.
What am I even doing trying to write a motivational paragraph anyways? Back to my corner I go.
Pretty impressive! that's some exemplary use of SFM, looking forward to the release!
ok listen, people that want to get better at sfm, what you need to do is practice and maybe get some animation inspiration, i used to be shit at animation but then i watched lots of anime and sort of studied how the body moves and such and now im good at animating.
the first part to getting good at something is to learn.
edit:
shit woops somebody already made a motivating post lmao
Because anime is a great reference when you're going tor natural, realistic movement, and the best way to learn something is to watch a lot of it. Man I wish I could learn a musical instrument like that.
The video on display here is very nice. Top quality stuff.

lmao how do natural realistic movements work with tf2 models. also, you missed the part where i said practice.
if you've seen cowboy bebop you'd know what i were talking about.
also did you compare animation to learning an instrument im dying

and did you just compare the style of animating to the look of the model? Ofcourse you can bloody make realistic movements with tf2 charcaters.
i digress, i think i misworded.
i meant to say something like you need to find your own individual style of animating and use it too ur best rather than moping about how your videos suck
something like that

Here's a example of realism.

now that im home i can reword whatever
i meant to say that rather than moping about how your videos suck and how you'll never achieve that greatness you should aspire anyways and find your own style of animation and make use of it the best you can. i used to suck ass but then after reading some disney lectures and watching acclaimed animated television (mainly anime), i put some things to thought and i ended up becoming p good at it. once you've achieved becoming decent, then you need to progress until you're as good as you want to be.
before becoming a master you need to learn yo
Animation is like riding a bike; I don't know how to.
