Sorry guys, my HDD died this day. (Click of death.)
I'm not sure when can i release the farmer... or i ever be able for it.
Hopefully i can bring the life back to the HDD for a while, and get the source files and the materials.
You should look into creating a symbolic link from your working folder to your dropbox folder so your stuff is backed up without even having to think about it.
This tool will allow you to easily create a symbolic link: http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html
Once installed, you simply right click on any folder, select it as the link source, then right click anywhere else on your computer (i.e. your dropbox folder) and drop the link. Boom, the folder is now linked and dropbox will automatically back up your stuff. Pretty easy.
Thanks god. The data restore is successfull from the dead HDD.
After a few day i'll release the completed version and 3 varian of the farmer.
(To the dropbox, to the people who work on the project)
Also i got a new HDD with 1 terabyte :)
I do recommend atleast saving all your .blend files on Dropbox. Saves so much hassle.
So hows Uptown going?
So hows Uptown going?
Still working on the concept arts.
So hows Uptown going?
we're making assets still. Script is nearing halfway done.
Update on the Farmer:
[T]http://uppix.net/8cfy9z.png[/T]
Still very W.I.P. There are a few issues with rigging, and textures but this is what it will look like for the most part.
Ugh, this is just amazing. I wish I had modeling skills or texturing skills so I could help out. All I can do is make posters. Great work you guys, this is making me very excited.
Well, bit of a shot in the dark, and I hope I don't come across as silly but, I am into film making and love directing camera angles. I have always wanted to direct the visual style for the camera work, and if I can assist you guys, I would be over the moon and would be happy to help!
for anyone who likes to know these things - here is a list of cutom characters that are being made/will need to be made for uptown. Ones with a * by them have concept art made for them.
SODA JERK*
Runs the diner in Uptown. Kind of a jerk.
CHEERLEADER*
A cheerleader for the BADLAND BRAWLERS. Has a thing for men with big guns.
FARMER*
A young farmer who works the crops all day.
MEATHEAD/JOCK*
Big, muscular man who is dating the CHEERLEADER. Fists of steel, heart of gold, and the brain of a small rodent.
BANK TELLER
Lady who works at a bank. Easily frightened.
MR. WHITE and MR. BLACK
Tow cops that patrol Uptown. Not too friendly with the mercs.
NIGEL
From out of town, he is a man with car problems and, even moreso, anger problems. Looks like Father from Kids Next Door, when he's not on fire.
LITTLE JACK*
Kid from the Smissmass comic.
ORGAN DEALER
Lookin' to buy a spleen, daddy-o?
CITIZENS
Citizens of Badlands. They also hate the mercs.
i might be missing some, but, I am tired and forgot. feel free to ask questions/criticism/etic
feel free to ask questions/criticism/etic
You planning on posting any of the other concepts that haven´t been shown yet? I´d love to see what you guys came up with so far.
I should menti
Do you need some mocap?

[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]

A lot of the concepts aren't finished yet, although there are a ton of W.I.P. ones. Whenever they're finished I try to post them immediately, unless they're important to the story. Don't want to ruin the film entirely. :)
EDIT: YOU DIDNT SEE ANYTHING

anyone got any plugins that let you see unedited comments?
This project seems very interesting to me as an animator and I was wondering if I could help contribute on that side of things - I mostly work in Maya and have worked out the pipeline to let me export animations out from Maya into SFM without a problem. I also had a question -
Do you have animation and story guys working in tandem while the assets are being developed to hash out the story, finalize the script, work out the storyboards, create the animatic and create a workreel for shots? Of course, in the future you'd need to have a lead animator and an animation supervisor who'd help sort out the shots and basically handle the shotlist, but that's a lot of planning ahead.
I ask this because it seems like a big project from the outset and it's very useful to have large groups of people working simultaneously on getting the preproduction done efficiently so that actual production can begin.

Right now, we have modellers doing their thing and the script is just about done. One of our mappers reqquested to see the script before buuilding, so we're gonna send that over to him
Script done, sent to mapper. Will talk to rest tomorrow
How is the project going? Could you at least make some screenshot of a scene, I'm very curious :D
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but he looks eerily like William Dafoe.
And now i can't Unsee... thanks

We're still preparing assets for the actual film. There are no scenes as of now. As OneFourth stated earlier, the modelers are doing their thing. Although now the mapper(s) can start working on the map(s), thanks to the script being done.
I'll try to keep the thread as updated as possible throughout the process of making assets. Showing off what we can, and saving the rest for later. Sorry for the lack of content, for those who are interested.
Frog Sorry I haven't been around to do art for y'all I am in the Boot camp of my degree and thus I have hardly any time to spare for this project. I will However try to do whatever you ask if you still need me. Its is just gonna be on a back-burner.
Crosspost from the steam group. Unfortunatly, none of the mappers replied to this or a steam message I sent, so I'll try my luck here!
If you've messaged me, OneFourth, about mapping for Uptown, then guess what;
We're ready to move forward.
If you need a copy of the script, then message me about it and you'll get your copy. Please DO NOT redistribute it or talk about the plot as we'd like to keep it as secret as possible. There are a few key scenes that need a specific building outside of the main map. They are as follows, and all up for grabs:
Bank
A bank that the Spy will walk in to. Must have windows in the front. Message me for more info.
Diner
A fifties style diner. This is where most scenes in Uptown take place, and it needs to look good. It requires specific props that will be made for the map. Message me for more info.
Bar
A small, mostly wooden bar. Needs a male restroom in it, bar and booth seating, and a wide shelf for a display of different liquers. Message me for more info.
So far, none have been claimed. If you would like to claim one, comment/message me or Dr. Darken.
Thanks
I've got some bar chairs? If you're interrested?
Yes! Those look great!
Also an update about the mapping; you don't have to know how to use hammer, we can use a 3D model for the map
Could I claim the bank? Partially because IF there is a prop that needs to be made I can just fire up 3ds max and hammer something out. With that in mind, you have the final say if anything custom gets put in.

Message me on steam and we'll work something out!

A shortened expert of a scene from Uptown. The final version in the actual film will be considerably longer. Just want to let everyone know the project isn't dead, but asset creation is taking quite a while. Since we can't show it all, the threads been pretty dead. We'll try to get something to you soon.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
