VALVE CUT CONTENT V2+1.1: Digging through Valve's trash since 2003... and then some...
This is the place to discuss cut content from any of Valve's games.
This is also the first Valve Cut Content thread on the new Facepunch. Treat 'er gently.
The interest in Valve cut content specifically emanates from the original 2003 Half-Life 2 leak.
In 2003, a German hacker gained access to Valve's files, and grabbed several of them for his own use. Some other hacker took the files from the first guy, and then leaked them to the internet.
This is an overly simplified version of the story, but it's how the 2003 version of HL2 made it onto the open web.
The theft/leak/whatever included tons of cut content, ranging from slightly-different textures, to entire enemies, story sections, maps, sounds, and much more.
Additionally in 2003, Valve released a book titled "Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar", which explained several elements of the development of several games, including concept art, unused story elements, and renders of old content.
Because of this being the foundation of the community more or less, Half-Life 2 cut content is still sought after to this day. There are many assets that still remain lost or broken beyond repair.
Another possible reason people care so much about HL2 content is that the series has had a 9+ year drought since the last game, and many have resorted to trying to find some fun in the old files.
The cut content has been an inspiration to many source mods and other projects over the past decade.
Some examples of completed (or at least, released) HL2 leak-related mods include, but are not limited to:
Here's some HL1 alpha based mods:
Here's some neat Left 4 Dead cut content mods:
And some of the honorable mentions, some ambitious or interesting mods that may or may not still be alive:
Additionally, many of the leak assets have been ported to the modern source engine formats, and can be found in several places. One example would be the Garry's Mod Workshop on Steam.
For information on leak content, potential story points, and other information, look to the two big Half-Life 2 related wikis.
Just remember that wikis can be edited by anyone, and the content that is written is NEVER set in stone.

And to give back to the community, here's a bunch of stuff I've worked on.
Half-Life 2 Leak Props Complete(mediafire mirror) - Every (at least ~98%) world prop present in the leak that either doesn't exist in retail, or has been changed in some way. All converted to work in the modern Source engine. Does not include weapons, npc's, etc.

(gmod) Half-Life 2 Beta Weapons Pack V2 Collaborating with BattlePope, we managed to kinda-sorta make a decent pack including many of the cut weapons from HL2 for Garry's Mod.

these new forums are going to take a long time to get used to
This thread can never be v3.
Should've been called Valve Cut Content V4.
Should've been called "Stop eating dicks and use the old Facepunch thread until it's not full"
I honestly love these posts im so glad there is a community around this, keep up the good work.
This is some cutting edge content xD
Bitchin!!! i've always wanted to play this content, just never knew where to get it!
Nice thanks for that Thread!!
is this dead?
It's going to take a while before people realize that they finally migrated the games section of the forums.
Anybody in here?
This thread might be more attractive if it had some of those unique thread headers like on oldpunch
@ficool2 This is the old thread for Newpunch before everything migrated over. The current thread: VALVE CUT CONTENT V2+1
I have a good question, will more cut content ever be leaked? I mean, there has to be an end to beta. We didn't get any sizable leaks for released games between 2011 to 2016 when all the drama and stuff with pelpix happened
Leaks or not, Valve doesn't has a solid reputation of leaving a whole bunch of unused stuff in their games...
So we just need to wait for a new game...
Just wait for Artifact. I'm sure we'll find more strings that may or may not be related to an EP3 RPG ARG.
I've been getting back into modelling lately (finally) now that I have a working computer and some free time. I've made a sword from GoT and a laser pistol from Rick and Morty so far but I got kind of bored with those and I want to remodel something from the leak. Preferably a weapon but I'm open to all suggestions. Whadda y'all mofuckas want to see all high polygon and shiny?
Also anyone on here good at rigging and/or animating? I need my Cremator model rigged and animated. I rigged it to the leak's skeleton but that thing is an absolute mess and it looks like shit. Any takers?
I made this when I first learned about the new forums. It looks like since V2+1 didn't get moved into here, this is the new thread now.
Yeah, uh, that thing could definitely use a little work. Which version? The V_model or the W_model the Combine Guard is holding?
Also I've always had a hard time making any sense of those models. Do any concept art images exist or is it just the model and its texture? Otherwise I'll have to take a good bit of artistic liberty as far as details go.
V2+1 was moved over to Newpunch, but did not survive the move into the new forum Garry wants.
But the new forum Garry wants also means this thread is dead, since no megathreads!
RIP pretty much all of this forum
Ive always wanted to see the Cremators gun and/or the Combine Guards gun in high poly since theyre both very blobby and hard to understand.
Yeah the Immolator and the CGuard gun are probably the best candidates since they're so low poly and low res. I think I'd rather do the Immolator since it's more boxy and industrial than the Cguard's curvy and organic design.
Can someone send me the version of it that the Cremator holds if they don't mind? It looks more detailed than the w_model so it'd probably make a better ref. I'd get it myself but I don't have the leak installed and I just have shitty mobile internet at my place. I'd appreciate it.
Physgun, or the 2002 Rocket Launcher with the huge-ass scope.
Also, anyone know how to edit quotes so I won't have to quite the whole thing including images?
By the way, I thought we're finishing this thread first? VALVE CUT CONTENT V2+1

There's a good recreation of the Cremator's Gun in Dark Interval
