But in this case I don't think horse shit =/= servers. For something like a server, it's a bit ridiculous to criticize harshly without trying it.
Horseshit is a different thing; it's common knowledge that shit is not good, so why would horseshit be good? Is there ever horseshit that tastes good? However, for servers, there's the complete possibility that there are good servers and not only bad ones.
You don't need to be a chef to know that food tastes bad; but you need to be a person who's at least tried the food first.
I don't think you need to try it first, pretty sure it's common knowledge this server is indeed shit.
My only gripe with you guys is that on Hunger Games you need to donate to pratice with the good weapons - but it's not much of a gripe. I never see those weapons in the arena anyways.
I don't think you need to try it first, pretty sure it's common knowledge this server is indeed shit.
Mind explaining why it is?
I don't think you need to try it first, pretty sure it's common knowledge this server is indeed shit.
Hey man!, I am a member of the 420 community. I really enjoy 420 and don't see anything negative with any of their servers. I understand that some people do have different thoughts. So I wonder can you explain why you think it's "shit"? I mean for you to say it's shit when you haven't even tried it seems weird to me.
So you have to have something to explain why you have that opinion. ( that the server is shit).
Do you think the T weapons are overpowerd?, Pay 2 win? Or whatever reason do you have?.
Well, one thing that may put players off is that there are items in the store that are more than one credit, namely the donator items. This is a custom thing and not in the base game, and the creator of TTT has actually said why 2+ credit weapons aren't a thing.
Can I make my custom weapon cost 2 or 3 credits instead of 1?
No. I don't want the equipment menu to turn into a CS:S-like store. The decision a player with a credit makes right now is "which equipment is going to help me most". If equipment starts having variable prices, the decision suddenly involves options such as saving for more expensive equipment, and which equipment is the most price-efficient. This seemingly small change will add significant complexity.
In short: this is intentional and will not change.
Balance your weapon for 1 credit. If you're looking for an easy option, limit the weapon's ammo and let players buy another one to get more shots once they run out.
Surely if your weapon costs numerous credits, you're basically admitting you aren't able to balance it in other ways?

It's all about personal preference. The guy who made TTT prefers it being that way, yes.
I like it a different way, just like how Soviet prefers his TTT to feel more like COD with his perk system and replacement weapons.
I really don't like it like that but I know he does and his players must or they wouldn't play there..
So, sure I could nerf the crap out of the 2-3 credit items .. but why? They ARE balanced in the context of the server.
When something isn't fair, trust me, I hear about it, or get fucked by it myself when I play.
I completely understand if you say it's too wacky or that there are too many custom things. That's your opinion and it's entirely valid.
Until it stops being what my community wants and what I want then there's no reason to change it.
As for me I've played the server, I don't like the big giant stack of stolen weapons.
Are you a troll or just stupid? I honestly can't tell.
Please name one stolen weapon. Just one.
Update:
I started playing actively on 420 now, particularly Hunger Games and TTT. I would say that Hunger Games is amazing, and I absloutely love playing it. TTT is heavily modded by Trop, and I am extremely impressed by his work and dedication. TTT is flawless, and there are many traitor items that are fair and balanced. There are traitor items that are for donators only, but they don't have a major impact on the game as you would think. But to truly maximize your fun on 420, you should donate, to get all the perks that the community provides.
The community has an active staff and players, who visit the servers/forums quite often. Whenever there is something wrong with the servers, you can submit a report on the forums. And Trop will handle the issue at hand as quickly as he can, since he browses the forums regularly aswell. The Super Admins -the ones who help out the community in-game and sometimes out-game- are extremely nice and out-going. You would think that being a high rank on such a big community will have an impact on them. But in reality, it doesn't at all.
From my time that I've been apart of I have yet to witness a staff to abuse their powers. I think that can tell you a lot of the community and the people who pick the staff members, they know what they're doing. We have an amazing rdm system set in place for TTT, and it does an amazing job. Trusted's and above can handle the rdm report, and from there they can slay the attacker or respawn the victim. And if it's a mass rdm situation (which hardly happens) an admin will ban him immmediately. For all 420 servers, we have a global asay in place. So let's say that you observe a rule breaker in Hunger Games #1, and place a message using @. Every trusted and above will get the message as long as they're in a 420 server.
I skimmed through the comments on this thread, and read what happened to you during your brief time on the server. It's a shame to see that one experience made you have a negative view of the community, things like that happen. I think if you play for an extended period of time, you will see why it is an amazing community. Soviet, I've played on your community in the past, and although the content of the server was good. There were too many community-related issues that just made my time on it horrible. From my recollection of the custom weapons on your server and 420, I don't think Tropical stole any weapon at all.
All that I can say is good job trop, and keep up the good work!
I appreciate the mature and pleasant reply! One thing I've noticed that hasn't really come up yet, but do you have much stuff for the detective? We've focused heavily on the traitor weapons, but I'm curious to see what the other side offers.
Here's a screenshot of the Detective menu:
[THUMB]http://i.imgur.com/Lj4NMTS.jpg[/THUMB]
The two most notable items for Detectives not including the ReAnimator (defib) would be the plasma net and the portable tester.
The net is a one-time use projectile that wraps around its target and holds them in place for 15~ seconds. They are still able to shoot but are temporarily disarmed to fists when captured.
The portable tester costs 2 credits and has 4 uses. It'll flash green or red depending on the result of the test. Traitors have fake testers they can drop which explode when used.
You can hit F3 at any time in-game to browse a list of all of our equipment including primary/secondary weapons and all of their stats.
That menu looks like this:

The T menu has probably changed since the OP.. this is what it looks like right now:

So what's new here? I mean, is there actually any new -content- that this community had made itself in terms of models and/or maps?
So what's new here? I mean, is there actually any new -content- that this community had made itself in terms of models and/or maps?
We've had a few maps made by our community. No models yet besides the few created recently for a new gamemode.
Almost all of the code used is our own but a lot of the models and materials are from the workshop.
So I was browsing by my demos and I noticed a couple labled 420TTTRound#.
Shouldn't you inform the client that they are recording a demo without knowing? This isn't cs 1.6
edit: They all average around 2 mb in filesize which can amount up if you continuously play on your ttt servers.

The round files overwrite themselves. You will only have those 6 at all times
The round files overwrite themselves. You will only have those 6 at all times
But you're still not informing the client about it.
But you're still not informing the client about it.
And I won't be.
Admins are able to remotely retrieve and view them at any time as long as they're connected to our servers..
You should see how many people are caught lying about all sorts of things.
But you're still not informing the client about it.
no different from having sourcetv sit in the server
what is with you kids and crying about "privacy!!!"

More of I should know what's being read of my computer by others and what isn't.
From what I can tell there isn't a specific limit on what files they can load file wise. (feel free to correct me if I am wrong)
But since you brought up SourceTV.
SourceTV can also record server-side demos that contain the whole game with all entities and events.
We grab demos via ulx getdemo, so we can only grab your 6 rounds.

Played on this community for about a year now.
All my 900 hours of gmod come from these servers alone and for all those saying that the content is "stolen" I can guarantee that it is 100% coded by Mitsudigi (Tropical/Owner of 420 servers). He puts time and effort into everything that he does and constantly updates all his servers with new things. I was not asked to write this but coming across this topic, I feel that I should write something about it.
Thanks,

Hi
I stole all your server's lua myself (rip runstring)
It's not custom coded.
thannks~

You are actually the second guy to say that, I saw a guy in the WAYWO thread that is pissed because apparently 420 stole his server's weapons so he decrypted their cache and posted the rar on WAYWO Thread.
I think it was alittle cut throat to upload the whole lua cache to disprove/prove whether or not the servers code was stolen. A couple of snap shots would have fulfilled the same purpose.
I didnt post it because it's private.
Im talking about the leak in the WAYWO thread
Im talking about the leak in the WAYWO thread
Yes I agree that is a bit overkill, but if you are going to steal weapons don't claim to make them because that will just piss people off.

But 420 is an awful community that doesn't deserve the player base it has, it's not even leaking when all their SWEPs/code can be found online for free. The small fragment of code that is slightly original is severely half-assed crap that looks like it was pulled off of the Zombie Master forums and http://maurits.tv/data/garrysmod/wiki/wiki.garrysmod.com/index4875.html.
I never leaked it with the intention of anyone actually using their code, it's absolute crap.

And here's the decrypter I used http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1351140

Quite scary to release something like this, It gets in the wrong type of people's hands and it's going to cause a lot of drama.

Anyone with a brain could compile Garry's Bootil library and write a basic program with essentially the same function. It's just LZMA compression with "CAT" (yes the word cat) appended to the beginning.

So anybody with a brain should do that, those who don't have a brain and their intentions aren't for good things shouldn't have the easy of using a program like this.
