The whole planet map thing is a dumb idea, from both sides of the argument. What Ven Kaeo is offering is stupid because I'm not comfortable with somebody who is actually participating as a race being the person that generates the maps, for balance reasons. It is also dumb to rely on some arbitrary map for the defence of your planets, planets should be defended from orbit with defence platforms and orbital rail guns rather than any haphazard ground defence.
The reason VOSKs suggestion of only maps for home planets is stupid is because that means you will need two systems of planet defence, one for all your other planets without maps and then another for just your home world.
I think just keep it simple, have planetary maps only as an aesthetic thing and the user submits them if they really want to have them.
[editline]eas[/editline]
Oh and if your argument for having maps is anything along the lines of "so we know what the planet is like" then I'm just going to say right now that when we discover new planets with scouts and what not VOSK will tell us what they are when we discover them, AKA "A Vanduran orbital telescope has discovered a new volcanic planet in the Eyndarr System. Scientists believe the planet to be in the habitable zone and possibly containing large quantities of rare metals, the planet has been designated AH-188."
I think having planetary maps would add a cool new level to the game. Imagine losing a battle over orbit but you've got a huge army on the planet you could still win.

Nuke from orbit.
Nuke from orbit.
It's the only was to be safe.
I prefer nuke to orbit, that way there won't be any of that nonsense on my planet. Won't see that comin.
But if you nuke the planet from orbit then you can't recolonize it and/or force the inhabitants to work slave labour and build ships.
But if you nuke the planet from orbit then you can't recolonize it and/or force the inhabitants to work slave labour and build ships.
If we're going down, it will be in the most sadistically suicidal, yet amazing way possible.
I'll just have to think of how.

In all reality, if you have lost a battle in orbit then no victory on the ground will let you win. This isn't Star Wars Battlefront II.
Drop pods?

What if you have giant anti-ship cannons on the surface of your planet like on Helghan?
In all reality, if you have lost a battle in orbit then no victory on the ground will let you win. This isn't Star Wars Battlefront II.
Depends on the situation. If the invader wants to keep the planet and its populace intact, then you had better believe a ground-based war will matter. Air superiority means jack shit if you don't actually control the ground.
Like for example if the ground forces are in possession of a fuck ton of giant 'fuck you' cannons that can reach out to space.
Like for example if the ground forces are in possession of a fuck ton of giant 'fuck you' cannons that can reach out to space.
Laser-guided fuck you cannons with 42 megaton warheads attached fired from MAC cannons.
My home system is going to have an asteroid field in it. And I'm going to install rockets and guidance computers on these asteroids. And when a ship is designated from an orbital platform the asteroids will enter slip space and emerge from slip space at a high velocity right next to your ships.

I'm going to call them 'Homing Roids' :v:
Came back from a basketball game. really tired, for now we wont use planetary maps. but that might change in time. ill still try to shoot for the 11am launch tomorrow.
I keep forgeting to write my turn. You know what, I will do it after the first turn.
He's doing an intro turn like I did for the first turn.
Like for example if the ground forces are in possession of a fuck ton of giant 'fuck you' cannons that can reach out to space.
Sounds more overpowered than it should be. Then again, I wouldn't be the least surprised if someone actually made a Death Star and blew up the planet with not a single fuck.

There will be few places that I want to actually take over if there has to be a ground war, instead I would favour simply obliterating them and colonising planets elsewhere, as the galaxy is a big place. By the time this game ends I'd say we would maybe have settled like 20% of the galaxy and even that is pushing it.
I'm still aiming for 11, this afternoon at the latest. It will still be out today though, I can say that.
Finishing the map now. I just need to write the intro and I'll be good. It will be out around 11:30
Hey VOSK if you add in the intro how the different civilizations use FTL drives (if we even have those yet) I want it to be known that Verans' FTL drives are very brutal space-fold systems that basically punch through the fabric of space/time with brute force.

Current Galaxy Map
Players:
Imperial Veran Empire [Red] - Van Keao
Vandura [Facepunch Blue] - wizard'
The Hyperkin [Light Green] - Sunny Dei
Great Race of Yith [Purple] - Seed Eater
Grox Empire [Navy Blue/Grey] - overpain
Galactic events: Enough time has passed, and civilization across the galaxy is ready to reach for the stars. Using fusion engines on corvettes and fighters, efficient, long-distance galactic travel is now possible. With sprawling populations at home, and numerous other inside forces acting upon these civilizations, they begin to expand their influence to the stars. So far, these civilizations believe themselves to be alone. That will all change in due time.

Imperial Veran Empire
Technology: Projectile Weapons, Fusion Engines
Hull Classes: Fighters, Corvettes
The Veran homeworld is Solusta Hazus. Solusta Hazus, meaning "Dying Home" in the language of the planet, is a terran planet roughly one and a half times the size of Earth. It is arid and dry over 80% of the planet's landmass with seas covering only roughly 40% of the planet. The other 20% of the planet's landmass are the last lush forests and grasslands of the world, located at the North and South poles.Originally a 'garden world' with two moons keeping it in perfect balance, it became an arid wasteland when a comet collided with the larger of the two moons, breaking it into three large pieces, knocking the planet off balance and destroying most of the ecosystem. Some time after the cataclysmic event, the three pieces and the smaller moon managed to stabilize the planet again on a 0 degree vertical axis. The Verans adapted quickly to this change, moving most of their settlements underground or to the poles. After having spent several generations trying to fix the problem, and having found that it is impossible, the population voted to give up and strip the planet of its' resources before starting a mass exodus to a new colony.
Vera XI is made up of 55% Verans, and 45% Autonomous/Sentient androids.
Verans are a race of bipedal humanoids averaging at two and a half to three metres tall with binary respiratory and cardiovascular systems. They have rough, thick skin ranging in colours from blue-grey to pitch black with bright orange veins showing under some parts of the skin. Their faces are teardrop shaped with angular and very pointy chins that extend down into their necks. Unlike the rest of their bodies, the skin on their face is very smooth and somewhat shiny, with a hard ridge down the middle from the forehead to where the mouth would be, and three sets of eyes on either side.
Civilization Beliefs: They worship a Dark Goddess named Inara who is the personification of all the destruction, death, and decay in the universe. They are lead by a Socialist Council.

Vandura
Technology: Projectile Weapons, Fusion Engines
Hull Classes: Fighters, Corvettes
The people of Vandura are located on the planet Tambor and it's moon Kyrr on one of the middle spirals of the galaxy. Both the planet and it's moon are temperate garden worlds, both with bountiful oceans and healthy ecosystems. At this moment the planet of Tambor is inhabited by 26.4 million Hygarth, 41.7 million Rhauks and 167.7 million CK88 class robots. Also at this moment the moon of Kyrr is inhabited by 6.6 million Hygarth, 81.5 million Rhauks and 53.2 million CK88 class robots.
The population of Vandura consists of 3 groups.
The Hygarth http://filesmelt.com/dl/hygarth.png
The Hygarths come from Tambor and stand between 5 and 6 feet tall, they have highly attuned senses that developed as a result of their physical defects through evolution
CK88 Robots http://filesmelt.com/dl/ck88.png
The CK88 robots are a self-aware AI and stand at 6'2 Inches. These robots are similar to their creators and share the same ideals as them. They are treated as equals by the Hygarth and Rhauks, and many treat the CK88's as family members.
The Rhauks http://filesmelt.com/dl/Rhauk.png
Native to the moon of Kyrr and stand around 7ft tall. Unlike the Hygarth, what they lack in intelligence they make up in brute strength and honor.
Civilization belifes: The Vanduran people do not hold any religious beleifs. They simply care about discovery. They care for peace but by no means are pacifists, if something gets in their way or threatens the Vanduran people they will fight to stop it. The people of Vandura operate under a democratic system of elected officials. Those officials would then select someone as their leader who would make executive decisions for Vandura.

Hyperkin
Technology: Projectile Weapons, Fusion Engines
Hull Classes: Fighters, Corvettes
Located on a foggy, dark, marshy planet called Hyperina is a race of intelligent omnivorous reptiles called the Hyperkin. This planet lays on one of the outermost veils of the galaxy.
(The hyperkin look like a mix of the Trandoshans from Star Wars and the Argonians from Oblivion.)
They are divided up into clans based on the color of their scales. The strongest clan has dominion over all the others after a series of brutal wars. The leader of the strongest clan and his family has rule over all of the Hyperkin, he makes all major decisions for the planet, clans, and anything that involves his people. His word is law.
Civilization BeliefsThe Hyperkin worship a series of Gods known as the Sky lords with some clans completely dedicated to gaining territory in their name. The Hyperkin also use another, less developed species called the Hadar as slaves and menial laborers.

Great Race of Yith
Technology: Projectile Weapons, Fusion Engines
Hull Classes: Fighters, Corvettes
The Yithians are located on one of the inner belts of the galaxy on the planet Koylat. It is a humid garden world, mostly covered by giant oceans. The Yithians have a body of a large invertebrate creature, who resembled a rugose cone topped by a pair of clawed appendages, a long trumpet (presumably a feeding organ) and a yellow orb-like sensory organ on a stalk, sliding around on a sluglike mucous foot. They are not humanoid, and are very weak and make up for that in intelligence.
(Depicted here): http://juanico-el-muertes.deviantart.com/art/Great-Race-of-Yith-195765705
They follow Technocratic benevolent fascism, with no social classes. Live in massive cities, and only those cities, and avoid the non-urban areas. Well-developed science and culture and art, peaceful and prosperous.
Civilization Beliefs:No religion, but believe the universe was created by the being Azathoth, and that in the future, there will be great doom to the Great Race, and they will learn how to project their consciousnesses forward into time to escape this great doom.

The Grox Empire
Technology: Projectile Weapons, Fusion Engines
Hull Classes: Fighters, Corvettes
The Grox Empire originates from the "Eye" of the galaxy. Located in the center of the galaxy means that their home planet is constantly bombarded by radiation and the heat of dying stars, making Grox Major an extremely rugged, dry, hot planet. Because of this, the inhabitants of Grox, a humanoid species with an average height of 5ft relies on augmentations and respiration units to even stay alive.
(The closest thing they appear to be is the Helghast from Killzone) http://images.wikia.com/killzone/images/f/fe/Psp_helghast_soldier.jpg
Civilization Beliefs: They are ruled by a fascist dictator named Xorg, who believes in rapid galactic expansion and development of technology. Therefore they worship technology with a zealot like manner.
Now send in your next turn!
If you're joining in now, send your nation sheet and first turn together. The nation sheet can be found in the OP.
