Turn 2: The Summer of 2012 [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/videogamesmap-inprogress.png[/t] REPUBLIC OF JAPAN (Pastry) Research:Work continues on power recycling, it has reached research levels of 30%. Some Japanese are hopeful, others are pessimistic. Military: Soldiers train in drug raids and house to house fighting. The CQC abilities of the JSDF skyrocket, but North Korea has become fearful of her neighbor's intentions. Diplomacy:An emissary shows up in Beijing to talk about foreign affairs. Hours later, China denounces North Korean policy. It is unknown what was said. Economics: Laws are modified to open up free trade, investors ecstatic, but lower classes are worried. Intelligence/IA: Japanese Intel HQ is open with a flurry of activity. Two spies are shot dead in downtown Tokyo, with North Korean ID badges under their coats. Japan is furious. Events: North Korean troops shove up to the South Korean border in protest. PORTUGUESE REPUBLIC (Tark) Research:Research continues on warfare tech. 45% completed. Military: Bases in the South Region and Lisboa are built and expanded, creating new jobs, but temporarily straining the economy. These bases are mainly training bases for the new Portuguese fighting style. Diplomacy: Portugal is interested, but questions Germany's motives. Economics: Creation of bases. (Check Military) Intelligence/IA:Large amount of recruits sighted at Portuguese Intelligence HQ. Events: Economy heavily strained, bases must be completed soon. FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY (Kingdom Banned) Research: 25% Armor Tech, new research stagnates because of Austro-German war. Mining tech at 15%. Military: The Military surges south, smashing into Austria. Diplomacy: Germany invades Austria! Surprisingly, this was not unexpected, because the bomb that killed 40 people in Stuttgart last year was traced to Austrian nationalists. That ironically, did not help their cause. Germany asks Japan for an alliance and Poland for supplies help. Economics:The economy feels a gigantic boost from war production, though civilian needs begin to suffer, citizens are encouraged to buy brand name products. Oil rigs begin development in the North Sea, though Denmark protests over it being "their oil". Intelligence/IA: German intel HQ is at full capacity, which is not surprising because of the state of war. One can only wonder if they had a role in the Austrian ground forces commander dying a few weeks ago. Events: !!!Invasion of Austria!!! Wartime production in full effect, Civilian needs slowly faltering. SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC (Vampirerocks) Research: Research continues on a cure for cancer and blood disease, they reach a measely 20%. New AK rounds however, are being designed that cause almost certain fatal injuries on non-body armor wearing targets. Research is at 35%. Military: The Republican Guard stands down a little bit. However, troop garisons are common in most cities with a population of over 30,000+. Insurgency continues near Turkey. Diplomacy: The Government is seemingly legitimately apologetic for their actions. They blame General Hassan for the Republican Guard's brutality. He is shot. Economics: Steps are made to nationalize private business. Business owners protest, but some workers are generally happy about the change. Efficency, for the time being, is low while the changes are being made. Intelligence/IA: A law is enforced where citizens are no longer allowed out the door without written consent of the government after 10:30 PM, there is large outcry by the rebellious population, but the quieter Syrians do as the government orders. Laws also begin effect which places a limit of no more than 10 people per meeting, except in Mosques. This does unsettle some quiet members of society however. Events: Golan Heights tension is beginning to increase. Insurgency continues with possible funding by Turkey and Lebanon. REPUBLIC OF POLAND (Heavy Guy) Research: Research continues, as per usual. The PL-1 has reached 40% research. Solar panel funding is cut back, and little progress is made. Military: Military units begin retracting from Russia, calming Russian nerves. However, Belarussian troops begin setting up fixed structures on the border. Diplomacy: Diplomatic efforts to back Belarus down are unsuccessful, despite the pull from Kaliningrad. Diplomats begin worrying for their safety as riots break out in Minsk. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland all look into buying the PL-1 Battle tank once it is done. Economic: The economy stablalizes after the Prime Minister reduces funding to research. Gains look probable for the summer of 2012. Intelligence/IA: The Polish Intelligence Service finds nothing in their country, though many captured women are freed. Events: Poland's economy stablalizes. Belarus increases posturing. Germany asks for supply aid. RUSSIAN FEDERATION (The Pink Panzer) Research: Research begins on Clean Energy and efficent ways to re-arm the military. Clean energy is at 10%, while re-arming is at 20%. Military: The Military Mobilizes and cracks down on Mafia elements. Downtown Grozny becomes a three way street battle between insurgents, the mafia, and the military. At least 30 civilians are dead. The scene is repeated much throughout Russia, though not completely in vain. Diplomacy: Alliance feelers are sent to China, China wishes for a 5 million dollar aid package in exchange for an alliance, as the feelings of the Sino-Soviet border conflict still run slightly deep from 1969. It is unknown how the Russian President will react. Economy: The Economy begins reshuffling, with the deposition of oilgarchs and mafia members made as powerful as possible. Many airline CEOs and Oil Executives are dumped. Much rejoice to many Russians indeed. However, Businessmen begin worrying about their own businesses. Intelligence/IA: Intel reports at least 20 Mafia heads dead from various sections of the Russian Federation. The FSB is proud of their achievment, albiet heavy handed. Events: Insurgency begins in the Caucasus region, control of the economy is slowly coming back to government power, boosting profits for the quarter. Austria begs for air force assistance. KINGDOM OF FRANCE (Zillamaster) Research: Research begins on HIV drugs and compact nuclear facilities. They are both at 5%, and like Poland, are expensive, but are worth the wait. Military: New recruitment ads for the French Marines are held. French Marine HQ in Marsaille is over run, teeming with new recruits ready for battle under the new Kingdom. Diplomacy: The new King begins asking Syria for oil, in exchange for cash. The new stockpile should boost the economy, unless if it costs too much. Syrian oil is more expensive thanks to the revolution, but this could begin a new bond between the former colony and Kingdom. Economics: The Upper Class is taxed 20% more. This causes slight resentment in high business circles, but with the power ultimately resting in the hands of the king, they are forced to concede. Minimum wage is increased, much to the happiness of workers, increasing productivity. Once again, the upper class is displeased. Intelligence/IA: GIGN are deployed near the channel islands. Events: New taxes/regulations cause resentment in the upper class, who desperately look for loop holes. The King's power remains strong in the lower class, ironically, thanks to the new laws. Austria asks for help! THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (StarToad) Research: Research begins on Fusion power and on a new transport plane, the VT-24. Both are extremely new technologies, and they are at an extremely low three percent. However, fusion power will allow the US to become entirely independent from other states when completed. The VT-24 would be a best inclass transport aircraft, which could haul a rapid strike team (of up to 17 soldiers+pilot/co-pilot) at supersonic speeds from America to Europe. Military: Withdrawl begins in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Other more stable "free" countries (Qatar, UAE) keep vital troops to save the Strait of Hormuz if necessary. Military funding is lowered, but the money that remains begins transformation into helping soldiers with PTSD stay alive. A noticeable drop in suicide rate is reported. Diplomacy: The withdrawl leaves Afghanistan highly unstable. Econmics: Coinciding with the relaxation of THC/Cannabis laws in the United States, cannabis is a federally protected resource, which forbids cigarette companies from tampering with it, and is taxed heavily. Intelligence/IA:Gay Marriage is legalized on a federal level (to the murmurs of states) and DOMA is sacked. All lobyists are banned from the US, which causes many interest groups to turn against the government, lowering productivity. Cannabis is legalized, and to some surprise, isn't a widely bought item. 20% of military funding is lopped off CIA/FBI HQ are quiet. Events: The upperclass is almost in revolt over new taxes, encouraging citizens to "rise up". Most of these calls are ignored but minor rioting begins in Minneapolis, New York, and Miami. WARS Austro-German War Casualties: Germany: 750 Austria: 804 Civilian: 80 Summary: Mountain warfare is taking its toll on Germany, but Austrian forces are pushed out of most of the north of the country. A guerilla campaign begins inflicting heavy tolls on the German occupation forces. Austrian government continues to be in Wein, possibly fleeing to Bern or Rome. Austria pleas to France or Russia to begin air support on German ground positions. Syrian Rebellion Casualties (Spring 2012) Civilian: 6,594 Government: 1,001 Summary: The Republican guard smashes most dissent in the cities. Dissent is high in the country side and the rebellion continues to operate in the north of Syria. Calls for intervention are strong. Japanese-Korean Spy "game" Casualties: DPRK: 3 Japan: 0 Civilian: 6 Summary: DPRK agents are ambushed by police and Japanese intelligence officers, they pull out pistols and fire at the Japanese. No hits are scored on actual agents, the shots go through windows and across city streets, killing four and wounding two.
