Bohemia did exist back then, but, according to my history book, it was a constituent land in the Austrian Empire known as the Kingdom of Bohemia.
So, I'm the Kingdom of Bohemia, no republic here.
With that being said, I'm still going to wait until the first turn until I join, but let me ask again, thelurker1234 and HeavyGuy, what do you two say about being Slavic buds?
READ ME, SEND IN TURNS AS TURN 2.

Events of 1836:
- Samuel Colt receives a United States patent for the Colt revolver, the first revolving barrel multishot firearm.
- Charles Darwin returns to England aboard HMS Beagle with biological data he will later use to develop his theory of evolution.
- Nicholas Callan invents the first induction coil.
- James Nasmyth invents the shaper.
- The earliest United States patent for a phosphorus friction match is granted.
-The Texas Republic is formed after gaining independence from Mexico.
-The British Parliament passes a law making census data available to the public.

DainBramageStudios – Tokugawa Shogunate
Feudal Dictatorship
-Emissaries are sent out to visit the courts of Europe, Asia and Africa. Meeting various diplomats, the Japanese make it clear that their country is now opening up for business.
-The upper political elite begin to split heavily over the issue, and the Shogun decides to bring back their loyalty by hiring European mercenaries equipped with the latest weaponry. They protect him and manage to maintain order for now.
-Moderate tariffs are brought in place on trade. Whilst the Europeans grumble, they immediately spot that the Japanese gold-silver exchange rate is 1.5 compared to the international 1.15. Many enterprising people sail to Japan to take advantage of this, shipping out large amounts of gold.
-The Japanese economy slumps, but the Europeans still bring in some cash for the shogunate. Loopholes are common however, with high levels of corruption amongst tax collectors.
-After talks with British engineers and Dutch emissaries, several steam engines are imported. These are set to work in British and Dutch silk mills. Surveyors are also brought to survey the land to check for possible railway construction sites.
-Unrest becomes high due to the economic recession, sudden appearance of foreigners, and currency problems. Several revolts are crushed by European mercenaries, but it is clear they cannot go this way forever.
-A faction within the political scene begins to rally around the Emperor, wishing to expel the Baka-Gaijin.

Satansick – Centralist Republic of Mexico
Military dictatorship
-Military reforms are brought in to help reform the army, which is performing poorly in the Texan revolution. Among these reforms are changes to leadership and military theory, aided by the work of Clausewitz.
-Despite this, the Texans manage to defeat the Mexican army, and declare independence. The Mexican army responds with brutal purges throughout the leadership to weed out opposition, further weakening the army.
-American colonists are not permitted to settle in Mexican territories, but as this law is not readily enforceable, Americans slowly trickle into parts of Mexican lands anyways.
-Infrastructure improvements are attempted, with a focus on paving roads and building bridges. However, the lack of general authority throughout Mexico, especially with several parts in practical rebellion and the purges in the army, means very little of this is actually done.
-A pinfire breechloading rifle is introduced to the Mexican army. Whilst using the first metal jacketed cartridges, the weapons are rather costly to produce and tend to have poor infrastructure for building, maintaining and supplying them. They remain in the hands of skirmishers.

Mr Face – Kingdom of Prussia
Absolute monarchy
-In military strategy, there is a gradual move away from the older Prussian style of warfare. A focus on looser formations, rapid deployment and movement, marches with covering fire and skirmishing tactics is slowly brought to the fore, much to the annoyance of conservative generals.
-At some considerable expense, a program begins to replace all smoothbore muskets used by skirmishing troops with rifled ones. Whilst taking longer to load, they are much more accurate. A machine is patented, and subsequently bought by the military to specifically rifle weapons.
-An alliance is signed with Egypt. The Ottoman Empire is deeply infuriated at this, and the Austrians become uneasy with attempted Prussian meddling in the Ottoman Empire. A further alliance with the British, then the Russians is also made.
- Attempted alliance offers are made to Krakow and the USA.
-Ideas of German unity are entertained, and shortly after, a large public relations campaign begins. The Austrians become annoyed over Prussian handling of the German question, seeing them as attempting to gain the rest of Germany for their own gains. The Catholic south shares much of this sentiment as well.
-No new economic policies are made. Factories continue to expand along with railways and mines. A growing movement for regulations in the workplace has begun to appear however. The customs union is also growing with the addition of Frankfurt. The customs union has been more advantageous to German unification than the propaganda campaign of the king, for it bounds members with a common trade agreement.

Firefox42 – United States of America
Constitutional Republic
-A new flag is adopted this year, to reflect the addition of the state of Arkansas. The Wisconsin territory is also created.
-The Republic of Texas is asked if they would wish to be admitted to the Union as a state. Texas refuses the offer of annexation, but instead asks for common relations between the two states.
-The Second Federal bank is prevented from being taken into private ownership, and is maintained as a federal entity. Jackson’s attempts to abolish it fail, and so it remains.
-Grants and subsidies are given to railroad companies in order to encourage them to build railways westwards. The construction of the Erie Canal stimulated demand for one in the northeast to connect the industrializing areas to the Midwest, and with this assistance, construction has begun.
-The Indian removal act is repealed, but too late to save many Indians who had been forced to move. Many are still bitter at this, and southerners are annoyed that it had been repealed too soon.
-War in Florida is going poorly for the US army, with the Seminoles being deeply hostile to foreign intrusion.
-New medicines and chemistry knowledge is introduced, refined and developed further. More effective anti-septics and anaesthetics have been developed, a boon for medical treatment.

Ruskie – Egypt Eyalet
Sultanate
-An alliance is formed with the Kingdom of Prussia, much to the annoyance of the Ottoman Empire.
-All property throughout Egypt is nationalised by the state, helping to secure a revenue source for the government. The produce is then sold to the state monopoly, which exports it abroad and uses it domestically. There are impressive profits, and the average wage of the lower classes rises steadily.
-Factories for the production of muskets and artillery are established, notably in Cairo in order to provide for the needs of the military. A shipyard is also established in Alexandria, which is producing first rate ships of the line.
-Peasants however are deeply opposed to conscription, with many inflicting injuries on themselves to avoid service. Textile mills are also established, although they are not as competitive as the European mills.
-A new professional bureaucracy has been established, aided massively through the sending of students abroad to study in France and the hiring of European professionals.
-All these reforms are massively influential, helping to oversee the transition towards a modern state with a brutally efficient army.
-The first railways are established too, linking first industrial areas to each other. The import of locomotives, whilst costly, will hopefully pay off as the network is expanded.

Daniel Smith – United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland
Constitutional Monarchy
-The British press claims on the Northwest Territories, overlapping claims that the USA have in the area. This is of great annoyance to American patriots, who demand the border be set at parallel 54.4.
-The British also lay claim to the interior of Australia, despite the fact nobody has ever crossed it, and it is mostly uninhabited.
- Token attempts to encourage industrialization are conducted. A few tariffs are dropped, and several railway bills pass through parliament as usual. The Tories are bitter about this, but let the bills pass after some negotiation.
-Alliances are formed with Prussia and Sweden. A further alliance is proposed to the USA, with no response.
-The age of adulthood is to be changed to 16, but is overwhelmingly dismissed as pointless.
-A law to allow recreational use of opium is brought in, despite the fact it never was illegal.

HeavyGuy – Free City of Kraków
Constitutional Republic
-A small militia is maintained by the Republic, but the Austrians see to it that this militia has barely any more power than policing powers.
-A man trips over and breaks his nose, bleeding profoundly on the street.
-The city remains independent, as it has for over 20 years.

Mackalda2k6 – Republic of Texas
Constitutional Republic
-After having won the war against Mexico, several blockhouses, outposts, stockades and the such are dotted along the border with Mexico to help deter further incursion.
-Diplomatic relations begin with the USA, which acknowledges their independence. The Texans refuse to annexation however.
-Cotton plantations can now expand with the war over. Buying slaves is becoming gradually more difficult however, as the British slave patrols are trying to clamp down on the trade.
-A new government is formed, with the first president being Sam Houston.
-A law is passed by congress, allowing for the sale of cheap land to settlers. The Comanche people are deeply hostile to this move however, which encroaches upon their lands.
-Railway locomotives are imported from Britain, and work begins on the first railroads in the Republic, mostly to facilitate the movement of cotton to the ports from the interior.

Obnobs – Swedish-Norwegian Republic
Constitutional Monarchy
-The army of Norway is increased slightly in size, due to fears over potential unrest.
-An alliance is signed with the United Kingdom.
-The government of Sweden implores the nation to industrialise through incentives. No such incentives ever materialise, and the vagueness of this policy means nothing really happens. Sweden and Norway are still heavily agrarian societies.
-The current form of the Union between Sweden and Norway is dissolved in favour of the Swedish-Norwegian Republic that acts as a single entity. Despite the use of Republic in the name, the King remains as the head of state, with the real power lying within the National Congress. This congress is based off the British system, using constituencies to elect representatives for the congress.
-Serfdom and slavery is formally abolished, despite it never having existed in the country, but only in the island of Saint Barthelemy.
-Steam engines are improved greatly in Sweden, allowing for their implementation inside factories and mines to greatly increase the kinetic energy available for use.

Thelurker1234 – The Russian Empire
Absolute Monarchy
-In military strategy, there is a gradual move away from the older Russian style of warfare. A focus on looser formations, rapid deployment and movement, marches with covering fire and skirmishing tactics is slowly brought to the fore, much to the annoyance of conservative generals.
-Forts and batteries are constructed along the borders with Austria, the Ottoman Empire, Sweden and China. Whilst considerably expensive, they help cement Russian power in those areas. Austria and the Ottomans however, are considerably annoyed, and begin to build their own forts too.
-An attempt to ally with Krakow falls through. However, an alliance is formed with the Prussians.
-Russia guarantees the independence of the various steppe peoples, and that of Egypt. The Ottomans are by this stage infuriated, with France and Austria becoming worried about Russian influence in the Middle East.
-Colonial attempts are set up in Siberia, in order to encourage people to settle this vast and uninhabited land. The lack of infrastructure, central authority or many economically productive areas slows this down massively however. The Russians also lay claim to the rest of Siberia.
-Taxes are reduced in order to help encourage factory building. Despite this move, industrial development is almost solely confined to cities such as St Petersburg and Moscow. Most of the new industry is focused in textile production.
-A public literacy program is started in the European possessions of Russia. This comes at a great annoyance to ethnic minorities who are being forced to be taught in Russian. The rather clumsy bureaucracy isn’t too good at establishing education however, mostly working in conjunction with the Orthodox Church. Jews, Protestants and Catholics are highly resentful at this fact. The nobility and their serfs also resent this, especially as much of their free time and labour is used up for it.
-A house of representatives is formed, with representatives from each district of the Empire assembling in St Petersburg to vote on various matters. Their ranks are dominated by the nobles who own the majority of the people and land in Russia. The nobles however require a 2/3rds majority to defeat the Tsar, and they only manage to agree to pass bills that strengthen their own power base, such as the introduction of protectionist policies.
-At some considerable expense, a program begins to replace all smoothbore muskets used by skirmishing troops with rifled ones. Whilst taking longer to load, they are much more accurate. A machine is patented, and subsequently bought by the military to specifically rifle weapons.

MountainWatcher – Rattanakosin Kingdom
Absolute Monarchy
-Training in skirmishing tactics for the military begins anew, with military leaders given generous rewards if they develop new strategies and military theory for the Kingdom.
-The British government is contacted, with the Siamese offering reduced tariffs if the British promise to export industrial machinery.
-Rifles begin to be bought from British manufacturers in the meanwhile, and are used to equip the Siamese army.
-An envoy is sent to Tokugawa Japan to discuss the possibility of opening trade between them.
-Agriculture is heavily encouraged by the state, with new ploughs, horse powered threshing machines, fertilizers, crop rotation and industrially produced farming tools being imported from abroad. This results in a fine increase in agricultural production, although the lack of a capitalist economy for land is holding back further development for now.
-A regulatory body is brought into existence to monitor ports, markets, warehouses, and other economic places of important. Their job is to help reduce corruption and protect to consumers and producers.
-Some surveyors are sent to Borneo to chart the lands there, and to talk with the local people.
-Foreign influence is gradually increasing, but seems to be well managed by the Siamese state.

Overpain – Baltic Seperatists
Political movement
-The party is formed, angry at the treatment of the Baltic peoples.
-After the formation of the Russian Duma, several aristocrats in the Baltic area are voted into it, and campaign aggressively on separatist principles, demanding independence.
-Letters are sent to every major head of state in Europe, asking them for assistance in gaining independence.
-The party begins to counterfeit Russian currency, bringing the ire of the authorities who actively hunt out the party for forgery.
-The movement seems to be pushing for a Pan-Baltic movement, to see the formation of a Baltic state consisting of Lithuanians, Latvians and (oddly) Estonians. People are told that to mix with Slavs is considered a dirty and treasonous act.
-Several riots and insurrections pop up intermittently, but are crushed by the Russian military. Homemade weaponry reminiscent of the Medieval era are frequently used.
-The Romantic Movement spreads deep here, with Literature, music compositions and artwork helping to fuel nationalist ideas. A new language for the Baltic people to use is also devised, cunningly using a different alphabet from the Russians to spite them.
-The leader of this movement is rumoured to be named “Perkunas”, who seems to have a deep seated interest in acquiring clay deposits.
